Like everyone I had a bit of time on my hands recently, however before the Christmas break I picked up a job lot of paint and 40k parts from a dude selling locally and amongst it was a bunch of tank tracks. I spotted a pic on here of a kit-bashed grot tank (sorry, can't remember whose it was) and thought I'd give it a go to finally be able to field 1000pts worth of Grots to run in a detachment all on their own.
When I laid it all out I realised I had enough for 3 tanks, a Kommanda and a Mega Grot Tank. Perfect.
Anyway, I'm waiting on the arrival of an Airbrush which I'll be using to paint them with as I figure they'll be the perfect things to learn and practice on. Basically I didn't want to spend any money on bits and I kinda wanted a nautical feel for the Mega grot tank, but apart from that I wasn't too fussed. The photos I've taken here are using 1mm plasticard, and it's pre-roughing up which I did a little later.
Hope you like them and maybe spark some inspiration for someone to do the same, just as a random pic on here did for me. I had tons of fun building them, and i'm looking forward to painting them.
I have a bunch of WHFB snots which I'm considering adding at some point, tucked in hidden corners.

I love the grot tanks. Fun to put together and all you really need is a pile of scraps.

Great work. Each looks properly special and one-of-a-kind.

Thanks guys,
Just finished priming them tonight ready for a lick of paint. Finished off a couple of Gobsmashas so the Grots are next up.

Made out of some wood offcuts and card by a good friend of mine who love classic old skool ork, cheers mate. Nice and simple and will fit in to my evil sunz perfect.

Base coats completed, gone for a more muted selection of colours and will probably go for some camo effects as interpreted by Grots.

A good friend of mine, into classic 40k likes to kitbash the weird and wonderful and after an evening of beer we came up with grot barrage balloons. He built and painted them for me and they arrived this morning. The transit had battered them a bit, so I repaired them, added some crews and bigger bombs and tidied them up a tiny bit.

One day I want to put them on the table with some suitable rules.

Love it. The little balloon on the end of the giant bang stick is glorious

Thank you, one of the things I love about 40k is some of the little injects of humour in the grimdark.

Stick one of those on top of a battlewagon and you could say it's a lobba.

So, finally finished off my Grot tanks. A bit rough and ready and some fun trying out different camo colours they'll stand out from the rest of my Orks quite nicely. I'm quite looking forward to putting 1000pts worth of Grots in their own detachment on the table.

Best thing is all they cost is some spares and my time.
