Hi,
I need some help removing Montana Gold Chrome from plastic minis. I tried soaking them in Simple Green over night, and then brushing it off. I was able to tarnish it and get some of it off, but still too much hangs on.

You need to use a stronger stripper for chrome as it is metalized but but not so strong it melts the plastic.

I’ve had good results with bio strip 20. It’s designed for jobs round the house, so I mean it’s meant for tougher jobs than stripping minis.
However you only need to stack for 20 mins. You might need to do 2 sessions if it’s really thick.
Be careful not to leave it longer than 20 mins as it can make some plastics brittle.

Chrome is a tad different than paint, it has layers of copper and nickel rather than soft paint

I've been told not to use the nail varnish remover as it has a tendancy to melt plastic.
If I can't get rid of it tonight with my toothbrush, then, I will hotnit with the isopropyl alcohol.

Update: I put these guys in my sonic cleaner with the same Simple Green overnight, and it seems to have done some work. I ran the sonic cleaner a few times last night and today, and they are looking greyer now with just a few flakes of chrome here and there.
I will run it a few more times today, abd tonight I will take them out and give them another vigorous toothbrushing. It looks like they will be good to go tonight.

Denatured alcohol is a good one to try also.

If you use acetone free then you plastic should be ok if you don’t leave it in for longer than 20 mins? Looking for someone with more experience to verify this

Check it doesn't have acetone or acetate, otherwise it'll just ruin the plastic. Isopropyl alcohol is a good bet, or methylated spirits (might have a different name in the US).

Will Denatured Alcohol eat my plastic? I'm not familiar with this chemical.

There are a few that use Denatured alcohol or Methylated spirit its the Purple chemical.
Its fine on plastic, I can have a batch of 10 marines scrubbed in about 30 mins, Just make sure you wear gloves.

No, Denatured Alcohol is a mix of methanol and ethanol its sort of a distant cousin to isopropanol alcohol

And also make sure you have adequate ventilation. Methylated spirit fumes can be very disorientating, and the smell itself can be very pungent.
