I haven't actually played with the KidsLogic rules, everythign I've seen makes it look SUPER basic and uninteresting, I suspect the dogfight ones will be similar. It will still be great to have more nice quality, easy to assemble resins on the market. Now if KidsLogic could just get the rights to Super Dimension Cavalry: Southern Cross, and M.O.S.P.E.A.D.A, and Macross II

Kidslogic has a Dana Sterling in Southern Cross armor statue on their store, though it only carries HG & Robotech branding.
So your wish might just come true

Unfortunately, releasing product based on any of the shows not already licensed for release in the US pretty much guarantees an expensive lawsuit from HG.l

Can't they just do what was done for He-man boardgame recently, with two separate companies making two separate games for US and Rest of the World due to licensing?

The Robotech license is not "US and Rest of the World", it's "Japan and Not Japan". Every time anyone tries to license any Macross (or well, anything Macross, really) show outside Japan, HG, butts in.

They apparently weren't paying attention with Macross II and Plus, but that was then.

Do You Remember Love was also licensed for release in the US by someone who was not HG. Unfortunately, that company went under. Last I'd heard (which was quite a while ago), there were three possible companies who *might* own the rights, but none of them were interested (and/or wanted to brave potential lawsuits from the others) in finding out whether it was them.

As I said, it was after Macross II and Plus that they started enforcing their license, so about halfway in the 90s. IIRC, before that time HG was focusing in it's work as a... house selling company?

I think they still are. They apparently have a group that keeps an eye on Macross and other Robotech-related stuff. But the last attempt to release original animated product was the Shadow Chronicles movie. That would suggest that the bulk of the company's income comes from another source.

I could look it up online, but I don't really feel sufficiently motivated.

Another Palladium sucker here.

I saw they have the Armored Valk & Super Valk on their shop page, so I'm taking the plunge to pick a couple up and see what the quality is like.

It is annoying that for the Valks it's full price (and separate purchase) for each form. I wonder how many pieces the darn things will be.

Has anyone bought any of there stuff that they can show it or talk about it?

My order finally came in (4 Armored valks, 2 Supers in all 3 poses). I opened the Armored Valk first and got a little concerned as it was in 6 pieces (not counting the antennae) - flashbacks to the Palladium kickstarter... However, the Super valks had fewer pieces - fighter mode had 3 pieces (main body, gun & pack), the gerwalk had 4 (main body, 2 arms, pack). I got distracted and haven't opened the battleoid, but I suspect it will be similar to the Armored valk for pieces.

Detail was really good, and I'm a little nervous priming them might obscure some of the detail. The Super valk seemed a tad small, but I haven't had a real chance to compare it to my old BT or PB minis.

Overall, I'd say they're reasonably priced, now I'd like to get my hands on their game rules to see how that goes. I will say that with the cost of these miniatures, you likely won't be running large games - at least, not like levels expected for PB's version.

Also a Palladium sucker here.

Has anyone done any size comparison between the Palladium minis and the Kids Logic minis?

Curious if they are decently compatible with eachother.

The Robotech Gaming facebook group posted a bunch of comparisons but they're hard to find now. There's some youtube video reviews, just search "kids logic Robotech"

Ah, the new minis are noticeably smaller than the older ones. Shame :(

Personally I find it hilarious they are smaller, more detailed, and easier to put together than those hot wrecks from the KS.

Huh, sounds like it'll arrive before my Tactics Wave 2 will. :( That's sarcasm in case it's not drippingly obvious to the casual reader...

What are price are they charging for the box? It looks like they're going the X-wing route with all the plastic pieces, chits, and such along with the ultra low model count.

Looks like it's $70.

I don't think the *game* is to my liking or in a price point I care for, but I do really enjoy the models I got from Kids Logic.

If nothing else, hopefully in the future we'll see some Mospeada models - I really, really want some Alpha & Beta fighters and I might be more interested in a dueling game where it's Alpha's vs. Invid.

On this set, while the Veritech is iconic, I think the game would have had a lot more value if it was something like 2 battlepods + officer pod vs. tomahawk + spartan.

A lot more varied gameplay that way, and more models on the gameboard. Having essentially one side's pieces eaten up by $30 worth of models to only have one piece on the board at a time seems like a real issue.

Value? Yeah, but like you said, the Valkyrie is iconic. It's a catch 22... if you include 3 models per side, that valkyrie is likely way underpowered compared with a glaug and two regults for example. I suppose they could have gone fully with the x-wing route of one elite vs two grunts and done two regults instead of the glaug.

Thinking about it, the two regults vs. Veritech might have been a better compromise.

Yeah, the main problem seems to be that it's going for a gameplay at a similar level with X-Wing... buth with much more expensive, unsassembled and unpainted minis, and (apparently) more fiddly components and gameplay (what with elevation and such).

Barrier of entry seems big for what is mostly a dead franchise.

That's why I didn't say Macross. Macross is very much alive and well. Last movie was released on 2018 and there's a new series slated for release.

I mean Robotech.

And Robotech fans are a dying breed, so...

it is marketed with both logos on the marketing material, i imagine they'd gladly ditch the robotech part if not for the stupid licensing.

Robotech fans may be a dying breed, but the ones of us left are pretty dedicated. And despite what some overly vocal anime "fans" scream on the internet, we still like Macross and Battletech as well, they're not mutually exclusive.

That said, I think the game looks terrible, the rulebook is up online. X-wing clone without the streamlining and even more fiddly movement templates. I'd still be tempted to pick it up anyways if it wasn't another basic VF-1 and another Glaug, we already have those in spades both form Kids Logic and Palladium. If the game included resin Gnerls it'd be a lot better, or FFS do a non-Macross era.

So maybe I'll just play X-Wing with Robotech figures and use the X-Wing stat cards. VF-1s can transform during maneuvering step and count as A/X/B-wings depending on mode, Glaug is a Tie Advanced, Regults are Tie Fighters, Queadluun Rau is a Tie Defender. Something like that. This one seems like a missed opportunity

I played X-Wing using RRT models back in the day, firstly just changing VFs for X-Wings and Regults with TIEs, but later on with modded versions I found somewhere on the internet.

It works decently enough.

Anime space battles require altitude/facing to give them that proper anime battle feel....

In my old group that played Robotech in high school, I was the only one that backed the dreaded RTT,
and that put a giant knife in the back of anything Robotech that I would buy.

But looking at the new gaming coming out. I hope Asmodee sues the pants off of anyone involved because
it looks like an X-Wing knock-off.

ugh, that game looks like an exercise in frustration rather than a fun, fast-paced dogfighter type experience. And the decision to make it a 3D space combat game absolutely offends my sensibilities, but then they doubled down on it with stackable stands.

Thats not how IP laws work, theres nothing that Kids Logic did here that would violate anything owned by Asmodee, you can't copyright game mechanics.

Indeed, if they could the guys who made Blue Maxx would have sued the pants off anyone who made an aircraft/space fighter game since the mid-70's!

Ugh, yeah - when you point out "It's X-Wing, but you got to put it together and paint it yourself" - that really does kill the mood.
