Howdy!

I'd really like to start painting my grey pile of 40K Mechanicus in the colours of the forgeworld Gryphonne IV, but I have a hard time identifying the colours used in the picture on page 23 in the Mechanicus codex. I've been trying to find the correct colour to use for my Gryphonne skitarii but have thus far failed. The colours I need help with are:

- Colour of the robe. The closest I've come is a Vallejo colour named Pale greyblue, but it doesn't quite match.

- Colour of the pants.

Any help on what colours to use is very welcome. I'd prefer a GW or Vallejo paint if possible.

Oh Canada!

The robe is a very desaturated spruce green tone (leaning a little blue) - closest colour I have is P3's Mage Hunter Green, which looks equivalent to the second-most darkest green on the cloak, just under the rifle. It'd need more black for the deepest shadows, and work in cream or P3 Sickly Skin to lighten it up for the midtone and highlights, depending if they're desired to lean warm or cool.

Pants are easier, pretty much a toned down Payne's Grey. Couple of ways of mixing that one. P3 Gravedigger Denim + black would be simpler if you don't want to mix the colour yourself.

Thanks for the help! I'll check those colours out. Hopefully I can start painting my pile and slowly make turn its inherent shame into colourful little soldiers

Oh Canada!

Sorry I don't have any Citadel or Vallejo options for you; my collection of the former is ancient and long OOP, and I don't own many of the latter because they don't play nicely with my wet palette / climate. Vallejo almost certainly has equivalents for Mage Hunter / Gravedigger. Hopefully someone with a better selection of Vallejo can assist in finding matches.

P3 paint is very similar to old school Citadel should you decide to try them. The range leans towards less saturated / more consistent coverage by buffering with black and/or white in most of their colours, which lines up well with your desired colour scheme. Mage Hunter is actually one of their least saturated options. Cryx Bane Highlight and Cryx Bane Base might also fit in really well; they're brownish-olivish-greenish greys. Very hard to describe, but good neutrals for a grim-dark look. Cryx Base makes a good substitute for black while having more interesting undertones. Cryx Highlight is a middle-of-the-road grungy grey that looks greener when at full opacity, and looks browner, like a greenish khaki, thinned out.

Scanned a bunch of stuff out of my colour book that might help in nailing down a paint scheme.
Good luck with your pile of possibilities!

Going by what little lore there is, the robes are supposed to be cream color.

I used Zandri Dust worked up to Bleached Bone. Mephiston Red for the inside of the robes. Vajello Brassy Brass on details.
