For those who are not aware, Asmodee transferred all of their miniature games from FFG to Atomic Mass Games (AMG) recently and so far we have had no info as to what this actually means for their games. This effects X-Wing, Legion and Armada (if any others please chime in).
Well finally we have some news! AMG have scheduled a Twitch stream where they will be discussing the SW games.
https://twitter.com/atomicmassgames/status/1352316344579055624

Hopefully they will give some previews for upcoming products for the games, we have distributor info for 3 X Wing products and 2 Legion products that have not been officially mentioned and news of any thing further would be great. News on the future of the Organised play would also be fantastic.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for anything meaningful. By all(albeit, rumoured) accounts Asmodee dumped all of this in their lap with basically no notice at all and they're scrambling.

They haven't even indicated they're going to expand their forum to include the new games let alone actually done it, despite the FFG forums being shut down a week from today, so I doubt they'll be in a position to do anything more than try to sound reassuring about the games having a future with them even if they can't detail it right away.

We'll see anyway, but like I say, temper expectations to avoid disappointment.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Any word at all is a positive after a month and a bit (?) of nothing but silence and people announcing they have been fired.

I don't think they'd announce a stream if they didn't have some meaningful plans to talk about, tbh, maybe not new product reveals or anything but bound to be some meat on the bones or else they'd just tweet something out

Fantasy Flight have announced two new Galactic Republic releases and two new Separatist releases for Armada today which surprised me, I am not sure if those had already leaked on distributor lists or not.

Looking forward to it.

I think the move to AMG could be good in the long run, just a shame that Alex Davy (Legion Designer) won't be a part of it.

However, keeping Luke Eddy (Legion Developer) makes me feel better. I hope he's part of this stream.

Playing: Droids (Legion), Starks (ASOIAF), BB2
Working on: Starks (ASOIAF), Twilight Kin (KoW). Droids (Legion)

It all makes me pretty pessimistic. I've just been making sure to buy the remaining Armada stuff I need, and a part of me is glad I didn't get into Legion just before the start of the pandemic, and sit all year painting but with no gaming, only to have to be worried by all this shakeup before I can even be a part of the local community.

We knew about them 6+ months ago and they teased them at Gencon Online in August or whenever it was. Its been known.

I haven't seen anything to this effect, care to share? From what I was able to infer the AMG team seem to have been aware prior to the announcement (unlike the FFG team), though I'm not sure if that was "aware for a day" or "aware for 6 months".

As longs as we don't see a Legion v2 announced, I'll be happy.

Despite buying upgrade sets for X-wing v2, it killed off my enthusiasm for that game. I don't think I've bought a single ship after the upgrade sets.

Currently most played: Silent Death, Mars Code Aurora, Battletech, Warcrow and Infinity.

any word on the RPG front BTW? I actually just tried the FFG SW RPG for the first time recently and quite enjoy it

This deal is getting worse all the time!

I really wish Asmodee hadn’t bought FFG. I like FFG quite a bit, and I feel like they have been getting a lot of raw deals since Asmodee has taken over (though Asmodee doesn’t seem to be the best company to work for). Not that I’m super concerned about the SW games at AMG, they seem to be doing a really good job with Crisis Protocol, but I would like Asmodee to stop pulling this stuff in general.

Yarp I think another reset would pretty much kill X-Wing, the switch to 2.0 more or less did for it locally, although to be fair 1.0 did get played a lot, and likewise I have upgrade kits but think my new purchases amount to maybe 5 or so Jedi ships for the new faction

But fingers crossed

Yeah, I bought the conversion kits for Xwing 2.0 because with FFG supply being as gakky as it is I knew if there was any chance I'd want them down the line, I needed to get it at launch. Haven't played another game since then because *everyone* stopped playing.

I think it's Edge Studios covering them now? They've at least got a Legend of the Five Rings splatbook coming out, but nothing's been said about anything else. The line was pretty damn complete though, to the point they were producing compilation books of equipment and vehicles. The lack of news about anything but the L5R stuff (which was announced ages ago) isn't encouraging though.

That's me

Bought into Droid right at the start of the pandemic. My droid factory was running at maximum capacity and I painted 3 core sets and Dooku. Then 3 units of staps, 2 units of bx, and I'm almost done with Maul.... still haven't played a game in real life. It does have a great TTS mod though, I've played a good amount there, but it's not the same.

Why did 2.0 stall X-Wing so much? Were the rules not well received?

Hard to say. Most of the changes were minor (though I disliked the inclusion of the Force as a core rule) but for me, the two big killers were:

1) Somewhat unnecessary change to the format of the upgrade cards. Going full size seemed like a good idea in theory (more space for card rules) but in practise most of that extra space is wasted; all it did was force people to switch to different sleeves, different card storage and took up more table space.

2) Massive culling of the upgrades. In theory it makes for a tighter game that was easier to balance. In practice, this was THE thing that turned me off the game. Janky ships that are still janky can't be salvaged - or be made fun - with upgrades. It became much harder to do something unexpected with a build and flying ships without any upgrades at all seemed to become more common.

I also wonder how much removal of costs and upgrade slots from the cards have helped (or hurt) the game.

The most common reason I have heard from people was that they did not want to pay to convert their stuff, for more than a few people this was because they wanted to convert all of their ships and the conversion kits didn't break down in a convenient manner. The fact that they could not actually use all of those things at once (like the bloke with 11 x wings) was largely ignored.

The glacial rerelease schedule has certainly not helped matters either (nor what ships they chose to rerelease). Hard to say how much the game actually stalled though, OP numbers were pretty consistent with v1 but stuff just didn't sell as people already had loads of stuff from V1 and converted over. Have heard that the two new factions for v2 have been selling really well and the difficulty with getting hold of the ships suggests that that is accurate, or FFG distribution is as awful as we know it is...

I think there's a few reasons:

- 1.0 was based on owning everything for every faction. You HAD to buy ships you didn't want for upgrades to play the ships you did. This was a treadmill that was always going to buck hard as soon as it paused long enough for players to think about it.

- Owning everything meant that the upgrade packs, which weren't exactly too expensive for what came in them, added up really quick. Certain ships players had overbought on left them feeling like they'd need multiple copies of some kits to field them all (even if realistically it would be better to just let them go). Essentially, players collections go divided up awkwardly under a system where the physical components of the game were much more than just the figure.

- On that note, splitting the Resistance and First Order out really spiked the above issue as neither of these factions were really robust enough to stand on their own and their upgrade kits were easy cuts out of the whole thing.

- The game required the app and the app required the cards, leaving players in an awkward position where they kind of had to be digital without any of its advantages.

- ALL of that, honestly could have probably been a bump in the road, but its not what actually stalled the game out. The real kicker is simply that in the two years since the change, there has been a total of one single new ship released for the classic Rebel/Empire factions, meaning all there's been for existing fans is conversion kits and other forms of cardstock. Nothing to drive players over the line to going through the effort of upgrading to the new edition. The new releases have been all about introducing the prequels, but due to the aforementioned switch from "collect everything" to a more faction focused collection, the existing playerbase didn't have a lot of incentive to add new factions at a time where they were focused on the burden of upgrading what they already had.

Wait, you're required to have an app to play x-wing 2.0?

Kind of, the physical cards no longer have points values on them for the sake of balance tweaks, likewise the ships don't have details as to which upgrades it can have so the app, or 3rd party versions, are needed for list building, and as ever with hobby apps the official one was not fit for purpose at launch

They do a pdf with every release that has that info and all the 3rd party apps/builders are kept more upto date than the FFG one. I downloaded the app, used it once and deleted it and have had zero issues playing so far.

Point costs are no longer printed on the cards. only in the official app. This is good because point cost balancing was the single biggest problem with 1.0. But the app isn't very good and most people don't like using it. Third Party apps are still more commonly used than the official.

FFG is supposed to keep the RPG from t for all three Asmodee games. Atomic Mass Games will run the tabletop portions.

So, let's say Asmodee buys the gaming right to Grey's Anatomy. FFG would publish PRG rules and AMG would make the models and rules for the tabletop.

I do know that FFG has finally made sure that I definitely do not get into the Clone Wars era of Armada, by finally making prices too high to be palatable to me. I refuse to pay $65 for a Venator Star Destroyer, a CIS Destroyer, or the Invisible Hand. At the very least I was thinking of getting a CIS ship or two for my Rebel fleet for some fun home games, but holy moly, price hike! That's more than the retail price of an Onager, and even Starhawks can be had on Amazon for less.
