Subject: Fitting models in building

Hi. Quite new to 9th since playing probably 2nd edition way back. Ive found terrain rules quite tricky and one came up in a game yesterday. In the multilevel building in this photo the marines are not an easy fit because of the antennae but there is no chance the destroyers will fit. If the marines are more than 5" up does this mean they cannot be engaged by the destroyers? In another building with larger lower levels can the destroyers, or any models base overhang the floor?

If a model doesnt fit, it cant go there. The marines cant be engaged in melee by the destroyer, when they are more than 5" from the ground floor. Base overhanging the floor is fine, as long as the model can stand there on its own.

So yes you have a terrain piece that clearly gives a sm unit an advantage in that specific situation
However....where the model can be placed is defined by the footprint of the terrain which is agreed with the opponent pre game. I would (and have seen it defined in tournament) as only the surface you can stand on. This means a base cannot be overhanging. Not everyone will define it that way though you need to agree what it is with your opponent.
Your marine top row far left is overhanging so really shouldn't fit there so would need to be on the 3rd floor. Which I suspect being one row lower would now be within 5"

The rules don't say anything about models having to remain upright...

Thanks for replies. Think I will have to adopt that if model can balance stood up then its ok. I dont have too much terrain so dont want to exclude any

I'd be tempted to cut out every other floor so as to make a piece of terrain that will be useable by more models.

Thats not a bad idea although the floor width for this building is quite thin so models with bigger bases might struggle anyway (Im a structural engineer and I not convinced how long this ruin would remain standing)

Probably for 100 years or more, since it is only a model...
