looking to dive in to AT.
can anyone recommend the grand master edition which is crazy expensive(although a decent price for its contents) or the regular starter set?

it seems like knights are the easiest add for your buck. can you play knight heavy or is it all about the titans?

any good recommendations on retailers, especially if the grand master set is the way to go?

lastly what type of terrain should i shoot for?
there's a lot of cool cityscape out there and some of its not crazy expensive.

thanks in advance!

GME is trap option, absolutely get the starter. Add one Warlord and you've got the default army list.

Starter box all day everyday.

The value is in the way you have enuff to play equal forces on both sides to get others interested. On the flipside, you have a pretty nasty battlegroup(maniples are for later on) with an additional box of warhounds and some knight support.

AT is their best game by a galactic margin.

You can play all knights but the fun is in the God-Engines duking it out. One of my buddies called AT battleship on land game.

Agree, standard HH box is way better. There are many maniples(formations) in this game and add one single warlord and a box of warhounds and one player can make a fair amount of different maniples. (you can split the content with someone else, but the warhounds and the knights are ment to be kept as duos)

You can play exlusivly knight only force(rules for that is in the Doom of Molech book), but it is a bit tricker to play and allso adds alot more models that you need to finish. I think the end price summs up to the same aslong as you compare it to the more diverse maniples.

AT is in 8mmm scale so you want terrain suitable for 6-10mm scale. Keep it simple, get some cardboard buildings in the beginning. Cheapest entry point i have seen is the Ruinscape set from Dropzone Commander game. Retail 30£ for 20 buildings in 10mm scale plus a paper mat, but im shure you can find other good deals. Point is to just find buildings that blocks line of sight in the start.

thanks guys. at first glance it just seemed like the knights were where the diversity was at.
there's a lot more of them than titans.

are there any card packs etc that i want to pick up?

i thought i read that the titan dashboards are not so hot in the starter set... paper compared to cardboard or something like that.

i was also wondering why the nemesis warlord is cheaper than the regular... whats lacking on him?

Nemesis Warbringer is a smaller class of titan.

To accomodate the opening posters needs( curiosities? ) I recommend the following two products; The HH Starter set( £90 ) and the Castigator & Acheron kit( £40 ).

This way you can decide for yourself if you are a Legio(titan) or House(knight) player. Some players find the titans a bit too complex and cumbersome, while others find the knights to be too simple and fragile. The Cerastus are the best addition to any titan force as they take care of the melee and mobility, allowing the titans to focus on what they do best - fire power.

Basically a hench reaver that can give a Warlord a run for its money, thanks to its carapace quake or volcano cannon. Shadow & Iron covers this dude in more detail.

Yes, he is inbetween the reaver and warlord. Not exactly a primary selection titan but it has its uses. (and yea, forge world has some fancy titan and knights variants.)
Allso, reaver and warlord has wep options in the basic rulebook that only FW sells, sadly.

idk if the command terminals are in paper in the 2p box, but if they are, they do sell cardboard terminals on the gw site. they are allso avalible digitaly for you to print on whatever material you want. (warbringers terminal comes with the model)

I was looking at some 6mm buildings. I think the new AT scale is 8mm. Do you think the difference would matter?

Nope.
Just make shure you get some terrain that is tall enugh to block a warlords line of sight, so they are not backline sniping all the time.

I've been thinking that when I eventually get into AT, I will purchase both GME and the regular box set. I will get two copies of the rulebook but that is acceptable to me. This way I get two armies with most of the different models for both sides.

If one is only looking to collect a single army, the regular starter + a warlord is probably a much better option.

I'd add a second starter to that if you're doing two forces And even so I'd only get the GME if you can find it at the same level of store discount as regular stuff.

That's the trick... i had the same thought but it seems every copy I've ever found is priced higher than the box contents... it's silly

Well, if you can't, better to buy Warlords at discount and that way you can get both different ones

There's also Grimdarkterrain on Patreon

And I plan on designing some of my own

Those thingiverse buildings are nice but I'm having trouble finding someone to print them.
I tried one person and he wanted 15 dollars to print 1 building which seemed high but i really don't know.

Some of that vanguard stuff is pretty great.

$15 should get you a full kg of filament. So, even allowing for time and effort and suchlike, for a single.building at 6/8mm scale it does seem a bit steep.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

If you're in the US, look for a local large rapid prototype builder and see how much they'd charge. You'd be surprised what they can do all at once rather than 5-6 individual prints. The print quality will also be better.

I haven't done any mini stuff, but have used them for racecar parts(intake manifolds) and they generally throw you in the production schedule to keep printer printing.

I've bought a range of random terrain sets, most of them look to be home printed or resin-cast. If you search on the 'Bay for Adeptus Titanicus, Epic or Mechwarrior terrain a fair amount of stuff comes up and some of it is very reasonably priced.

This other thread is for Epic but there is obviously a lot of cross over, if you look towards the bottom of the first post there are a list of useful terrain resources there
