Pretty sure I haven't seen this answered anywhere yet.

If I have an Iron Warriors Land Raider that is getting the benefit of Dense Cover; -1 to hit because lines pass through a wood and the firing unit, and it is within 6" of an Iron Warriors Warlord with the Bastion trait, does it also ignore AP -1?

1) It does as it is receiving the benefit of cover, so-to-speak.

2) It does not, as vehicles never get the benefit of cover, from area terrain or obstacles.

The update even confuses this a bit as it says that the unit is not getting the benefit of cover from area terrain or obstacles, but it is getting a -1 to hit benefit.

Any thoughts?

It gets the -1 to hit for sure.

The restriction of only INFANTRY, BEASTS, and SWARMS benefiting from Area Terrain while entirely in or on the terrain is only for when they are in or on the terrain. VEHICLE models (other than AIRCRAFT) benefit from units shooting through Dense Cover (if they didn't there would be no need to add an explicit rule for AIRCRAFT since all AIRCRAFT are not INFANTRY, BEASTS, or SWARMS).

As for whether that counts as "benefits of cover", there is no clear answer. The rules say "INFANTRY, BEAST and SWARM models receive the benefits of cover while they are within it." but doesn't lay out whether units outside of area terrain being affected by terrain rules counts as "benefits of cover".

So does it ignore AP -1, while within 6" of the Bastion Warlord and getting the -1 to hit from Dense Cover?

Lets say its within 6" of an inspiring terrain feature, does it then ignore AP -1, but not in the above Dense Cover scenario?

Sorry the definition of benefits of cover, are very vague and seem to specify any effect, from what I can see, but the addendum to Dense Cover makes it even more complicated in my opinion.

I will refer you to the first two items in the Rare Rules section of the rules: Benefits of Cover when not in Terrain; Ignoring the Benefits of Cover.

Thanks for this.

My (re)reading of these two sections, the first particularly, would incline me to believe that in the scenario I outlined above, the Iron Warriors Land Raider would, in fact, benefit from both -1 to hit and ignoring AP -1.
