I just heard that GW is publishing the Charadon book this week, which raised a question in my mind:
If they post rule alterations or conflicting rules in the Charadon book, of the Drukhari codex which is coming out next week, which take precedence?

One would assume that two rulebooks published a week apart would be entirely consistent with one another and not have any conflicts.
I mean, releasing a book that will be obsolete precisely one week later wouldn't even give them time to sell any.

The Book of Rust will have rules which are thematically linked to forces from the narrative, that's the main difference. But, Looks like it'll have supplementary rules to the codex as well.

Absolutely, even GW can not be this greedy even though it could seem plausible ( I am a self confessed GW apologist and understand this will lead to some, shall we say..debates?)
I know it may be considered a trope or whatever (I am in my forties trying to use modern slang here, and probably failing) but no company would self-sabotage its own releases after a week?!!!
Covid problems have undoubtedly disrupted GW's release schedule, I will give them the benefit of the doubt here and acknowledge that . Why Not wait a bit and see what happens?

What makes you think this book is being published before Codex Drukhari? We know the Codex is out 3/20 while there is no announced date for this.

Because my GW rep said the conquest book will go on sale before the codex. He may have been mistaken, but I trust him. It was why it was odd, releasing a rules supp before the main rules dex?

Codex Drukhari goes on Preorder 3/20, a week from tomorrow. So unless we have a surprise preorder this Saturday, it isn't being released before the codex.

As something that's "upcoming" rather than "next weekend’s pre-order". It's not up for pre-order on the NZ site (White Dwarf 462 is) so it's unlikely to be this weekend.

He is 100% sure to be wrong. There's not been announcement for preorder yet which means earliest announcement can come is this sunday for preorder next week which is exact same time as codex comes.
To come sooner it would have to be preorder today and for that announcement last sunday would have said so last sunday. And it would already BE on preorder. Can you find it on preorder? No. Which means earliest it can come to preorder is next saturday which is date codex comes out.
Btw store managers have virtually no inside info. Their info is same as you except they get prices of new items faster. But all know by then what is coming.

So the answer is if they rules conflict, ask for an FAQ. But be sure they conflict as opposed to Charadon overriding the Codex in a specific instance.

Because it's a supplement for a small part of the Codex (Drukhari Cult of Strife). I'm more concerned that two of the three included supplements are for last edition codex (forge world Metalica & Imperial Knights House Raven).

I just think its a bad look, releasing a day zero rules package for a codex that released the same day. So now, If I want to play that specific faction of Drukhari, I have to pay for two books, on day one.
GW is going to make everything supplements now. This is the wargamming equivalent of day 1 DLCs.

People will NEED the rules in the campaign book as much as people NEEDED the rules in PA or Vigilus.
Actually, because these rules only apply to subfactions, they'll be even less necessary than PA and Vigilus rules.
If you play one of the listed subfactions, it is likely that you will want these rules, but they likely come with a disclaimer that says "These rules are intended for this campaign" and even the listed subfactions can function without them.

Dunno.
Wont know until we see the new book. IIRC there was another "Warzone" book that added some rules for Necrons near their codex release but none of them were matched play standard rules, just narrative play only rules for the specific warzone missions, like Crusade content.
Honestly, i don't think I'd mind either way. If Cult of Strife specifically has 6 traits, 6 relics, 6 strats, like SM Supplement level content, then maybe there'll be a reason to go Strife over Test+Slashing, which is basically superior to strife trait numbers-wise.

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Under normal circumstances yes. But this is GW. And due to you know what who knows when the books were MEANT to be out and were delayed instead. I fully expect there to be contradictions between the two, possibly major ones. And both will still sell like hotcakes.

At the very least GW have been pretty clear in labelling their books, if it's just for Crusade it will say so on the front.

Codexes tend to be somewhat mandatory.
Will have to see on Charadon. Certainly after PA I think a lot of people are feeling burned. Yes piracy bad - but paying a lot of money for a new super doctrine, say 1 auto-take warlord trait, one auto-take relic and maybe 2 auto-use stratagems when these facts are all over the internet is a big ask. Perhaps especially for DE players who are buying a new codex at the same time. (Although DG almost just bought theres, and Ad Mech might be getting theirs in 6~ weeks time.)

Difference here is that this campaign book is much more expensive than the supplement. 35 pounds for rules in a same day codex is just ridiculous. At least in the 17.50 supplement you get a collection of rules and lore relating to your faction.

Well, until people stop buying everything GW does up like it's going out of style, why would they stop doing it? It just shows they can make money twice. And that's been the case forever. GW does something that other companies would be raked over the coals for, it sells out/gives them more profit than ever before, everyone goes yay look how great GW is.

There shouldn't be contradictions (beyond the usual sloppy rules-writing). Its just bolt on additional rules for a specific dark eldar subfaction.
And the intent was Dark Eldar first (back in jan/early feb) and the warzone book later (probably about now).
The real mess will be getting the Ad Mech and Knight rules to work with their 8th edition books.
---
It is scummy tactics, but looking over the table of contents, I see no reason to not just ignore the warzone book.
