I just want to say at the start that by Animated Music Videos, I'm very explicitly not talking about fan-made 'AMV' stuff. I don't want to see your screenframes of Naruto/DBZ/Akira to a Linkin Park song. By Animated Music Video in this context, I mean music videos put out by musicians which happen to have had an animated video made specifically for that song. So something like a Gorillaz or Daft Punk video would qualify.

The reason for this thread is that every so often, I stumble across a video to a song and find that they put a ridiculous amount of effort and time into an animation of some kind. Sometimes it's artsy, sometimes it tells a story of some kind, sometimes it's just weird and interesting. So I'm interested to see which ones the rest of Dakka has found that I might not have seen. Here's a couple to get us started:-

So come on Dakka. Hit me up with some good stuff.

Hadn't seen the Pearl Jam, had forgotten the Disturbed (great video that), and Batmetal doesn't qualify because someone animated the videos separate to the musician (great videos though, so I'm not complaining too much).

Here's a sliiiightly NSFW one I'd forgotten about.

Spoiler:

And another Caravan Palace:-

Does the entire movie Yellow Submarine count?

And these also came to mind:

Was also considering Metallica's All Nightmare Long but that also has live action segments.

And a pair of slightly NSFW ones by McBess:

I can't embed it as I can't find the whole thing on YouTube, but if you want to watch something from a Beatle that'll make you wonder if you've just woken from a fever dream, I offer this...

I was just going to link that actually, but that's not the full 13 minute short film that is in my first post! It's a full on mini TV show.

Lemme just dig into my old man archive here...

You can't have this conversation without going back to 1986. Cool to see this remastered too.

Possibly NSFW due to sexy bikini ladies...

And a newer one for good measure.

A lot of my favorites already here, but I am shocked the Mystery Skulls ones haven't made it in:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlEb3L1PIco Ghost is the first one. Three more after it with one continuous story thread between them.

Two other favorites of mine:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1N9ezrcgde0 Song: Don't Know How to Stop - Halestorm, AMV made from Redline

I second "take on me", but also want to put forward:

Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel, The Wall by Pink Floyd and Money for Nothing by Dire Straits as classics that come to mind when thinking of animated music videos.

Thread should be marked NSFW for the Sturgill Simpson Good Look video and maybe Caravan Palace Lone Digger as well. Or at least wrap Good Luck in spoiler tags marked NSFW.

Those two songs are excellent though, I've had them on repeat for ages.

I’m partial to Monsters and Men. The song Little Talks is beautiful and sad, more so than the surreal (unrelated?) story being animated. Yet the sum is greater than the parts.

"Money for nothing' was a groundbreaking animated video for being mostly cgi at the time. The original video is hard to find as it's been deemed unacceptable and mostly censored.

Here's a still from it, and yeah, in 1985 that was pretty much what cgi looked like.

I've always been a fan for a lot of the Gorillaz stuff, with some random nice cameos as well at times. Some of their albums really didn't float my boat at all (the first two were awesome though) but it has been fun watching their style (and the technology) evolve.
