Our store has regular players who play a host of games (my sig has a list of most of the games i play) including 9th and
AOS
The thing to understand about 9th, it is a completely different game than what you were used to. the eras were -rogue trader-2nd, then 3rd-7th, and then 8th+ . each of these blocks represent a different style of gameplay.
With 8th+ they streamlined the core rules, but them transferred the bloat into the individual codexes/supplements this is something that has continued with 9th.
A side note-many of the warhammer fantasy players moved over to kings of war from mantic games where they can still use all their WFB minis in a game that plays like edition 8.5.
I am in South-Eastern
WA - specifically the Tri-Cities area. We have a single
FLGS that has room to run games in the back but I don't think they're open for that sort of thing just yet. I do know that there is a tournament that someone is putting on locally with rules to follow current safety guidelines. I may have to check out Kings of War. I'm was thinking about
AoS once I am satisfied with my Salamanders for
40k. However, the two factions I would have been interested in, that being Brets and Tomb Kings, are nowhere to be found in
AoS. Thought about Chaos Demons if they can be used for both
40k and
AoS, but I haven't checked much into that possibility yet so I'm not even sure if it can be done like it could for older editions. I'm just dipping my toes back into the pool currently so to speak. I am almost done painting the Necrons from the Command Edition for my friend. We made an agreement after I bought the box and he told me he wanted to do Necrons (before he even knew I had bought the set) - he could have the Necrons, pre-painted since he's never done it and wants his initial models to be a basis to go on for his own attempts at starting if he bought the Space Marine codex for me. I think he's getting a real steal for that overall, but I want to encourage him since he's my current lifeline to potential games during the current situation since I don't live directly in town and he lives right across the street.
Anyway, I'm rambling a bit now. Thanks for the welcome and I really am looking forward to getting reinvolved with the hobby and the community since it is so much easier to connect to people these days. Internet was there when I was playing before but it hadn't evolved much past AoL quite yet
