Reposted here from my introduction post.

I just got the rules for WH40k and as I'm reading through them for the first tim I noticed something that I need a clarification on. From what I read the Fight phase has every unit that is capable of fighting able to do so, taking turns starting with the player who is not currently on their turn. So then what is the point of the Counter-Offensive strategem? It allows you to pick a unit to fight after your opponent's unit fights, but isn't that the normal rule? Why would I spend 2 CP to do something that I'll be able to do anyway? I'm missing something here, right?

Thanks in advance for any help.

During the Fight Phase, all units that charged that turn fight before any units that did not charge that turn. So if the acting player charges with 5 units, all 5 charging units fight before any other unit can be selected to fight by either player. Counter-Offensive allows the other player to push up one of his units to fight after the first charging unit fights but before the other 4 charging units.

Think of the the counter offensive as basically an interrupt.

Interrupt if multiple chargers.
Interrupt if units have always fight first etc.

Note many fight last abilities make a unit ineligible to be selected meaning counter offensive cannot be played on them till all eligible units have fought.
