I’m new to BFG and am slowly building a Khornate fleet.

What faction do you play?
What ships or weapons work well for you?
Tactics?

So far my opponents have been Necron or Imperial. I took a serious trouncing from Necron. I’m still trying to figure the game basics out but it has my attention.

Dont play, only collecting, but Necrons in its original form is apparently overpreforming a tad.
Just do what the book suggests, play cruiser clash and add more and more elements or rules, and take the time. If you try to take it all in a few matches, it will confuse and overwhelm you.

Fighting necrons is no worse than fighting eldar corsairs, he just has not had the joy of fighting them yet.

It's been 4 years since my last game. All I can say is ignore anyone telling you to fill your fleet with Devastation and Slaughter class cruisers exclusively. Yes, they're highly effective by my word is it dull. Ironically, Chaos do really well when keeping range and kiting the enemy whilst unloading fighters. They have a lot of long range weapons and can take the mighty dreadclaw attack craft. On the whole, go for a nice mix up and find what works.

I used to enjoy running a Hades Heavy Cruiser and 2 Murder Cruisers in a squadron and charge them at the enemy. They'd blast away with their lances on appraoch and then, if they're still intact when you pierce their lines, just unload your broadsides. When it worked, the sheer devastation and carnage was fun to witness. Bonus points if you finish up ramming or boarding a ship. Once had a murder ram an imperial cruiser side on only for it to go down, go warp drive implosion and take it, the murder and another two cruisers with it Oh, that was a fun battle.

i do love my carnages 60cm batteries are tasty

The thing i always loved about necrons was using them against eldar...finally turning the tables on them it makes sense in the lore as well necrons should be good at fighting the race they had to fight against 65 million years ago during the war in heaven.

I would drop nearly $1k on Day One if GW re-released BFG. God, I miss this game, and don't have any of my models anymore.

2000 point Chaos Ordnance Spam Fleet

2000 point Chaos Firepower Fleet

2000 point Imperial Get Close And Brawl Fleet

(BFG alway gets an upvote, so here you go.)

Honestly i am a little scared of a teoretical re- release. While titanicus core rules was realy solid and is a great game, aeronotica is not, meaning they could do changes to a re- release that are not good, and fanbase support for the old rules are good.
We have a fan made revisted edition that basicly is the core book with the F&Q added, and i have seen house rules for the eldar adapting a move, move, shoot system rather then move, shot, move.

Starting up BFG is not a problem today if you have nothing. We have 3D printers now, zero reasons to pay for very overpriced original models on ebay. Of you own a 3D printer or know someone who has one, then basicly you are just paying for the material and the files, meaning you could get a fleet up and going for 1/4 of the original price, or less.
Dont have a printer, dont worry, there are printer services out there or "garage" dealers who makes and sells printet BFG ships that is i would say is 90% in likness to the original.

I dont have a printer nor know anyone that has one so i took a chanse on a seller who makes the Tau models and bought approx 1000p worth of models. Total price tag is a fair bit but less then what the original models costed when GW sold them, and the visual likness based on the shop images is about 95% to the original GW models.

My son has a resin printer and has been printing out my Cruisers, there are some awesome Khornate style files! I need to have the kid print some destroyers and escorts for Shiggles though, and I need a couple of heavy cruisers.

I think you mean grand cruisers-the styx you already have(the double carrier deck) is a heavy cruiser along with the hades and acheron it is the same hull size as a regular line cruiser.

grand cruiser-

Heavy cruiser-

What you really need is to find the STL file for the planet killer....because reasons.....

Murder-class are a good, basic alrounder. I like Slaughters too, if only for being on All Ahead Full all the time and keep up with the Eldar. I normally keep a Styx-class near the back, keeping the fighters coming to keep enemy torpedoes to a minimum while using the Desolator as heavy hitting lance machine.

If the games big enough I always roll out the Planet Killer.

Blackstone Fortresses can be fun but need fighter cover.

Since we are on the topic here is the latests battle that Gore Child’s Teeth got in-

2k points, fleet engagement-mission envelopment

Everything set up well for khorne in this scenerio. since khorne won the roll off and chose to be the enveloper. the imperial fleet was pressed hard from all sides leading to massive boarding actions that fed directly into what khorne does so well.

Had the imperial fleet been on the opposite side it would most likely been able to play keep away...especially since some of the chaos squadrons had incredibly low LD rolls.

apparently hitting Refresh didnt want to update this thread for anything new.

That dang LD fail cost me a potential first round double boarding action... but I made up for it in the end!

Slaughter cruisers are very Khorne like - get up close and fire away, then in your case board. Unfortunately a cunning Imperial can keep enough torps handy to make it hard to close...

do any of you guys run destroyers or other escort ships?

I haven't found escorts too critical for a chaos fleet, since you've got cheap and fast cruisers that can react to sudden changes in the battle pretty well. Your ability to flood the table with assault craft is also able to provide ablative protection. That said, a handful of u-turning torpedo boats is always handy to ruin someone's day with.

It usually pays to have an escort squadron of at least 4 ships. I use Infidels, mainly because they were the first blister to hit the shops but also because they're a good all rounder. Whenever I use Idolators they never seem to impress. A 6-strong Iconoclast squadron does scare people when it's at full strength for it's total Firepower.

I am kind of in the same position. i run a 2k thousand sons themed fleets with 2 devs a styx and my command battleship is a despoiler plus my carnages and repulsive grand cruiser for added gun power at long ranges.. i can always reload small craft, i cannot reload a destroyer/escort once it pops. especially when it only has 1 wound and any critical hit will destroy it.

i like the way some of the escorts look, but chaos fleets do not need them like imperial, eldar or ork fleets.

If I don't have enough points free for another cruiser then I buy Raiders/Destroyers.
