So got my first game since the start of Covid tomorrow, trying out a couple of 500pt games against my mate who's running a Sisters list

I believe his list consists of:
Canoness
10x Sisters
5x Sisters
Iconoclast
Immolator

With that in mind I was rummaging through my stuff and found my old Grey Knight force that hasn't seen the light of day for at least 10 years, thought I'd give them a go.

HQ
Brotherhood Champion

Troops
5x Grey Knights
- Psycannon
- Warding Stave
- 3x Swords

5x Grey Knights
- Psycannon
- Warding Stave
- 3x Swords

Now this comes to 347pts. I think overall it's lacking firepower so I'm wondering what I can fill the remainder with:
- Dreadknight w. Teleporter, no ranged weapons sadly.
- Venerable Dreadnought w. Multi Melta
- 3x Paladins w. Swords.

I think the Dreadnought would be best, any other suggestions? Also, while I'm familiar with the new Stratagems and Psychic Tides, are there any strategies or pitfalls I should be aware of?

Thanks

You should be able to run Crowe now instead of the Champion. He effectively went down in points a while back and it's pretty much one of the most points efficient models in the entire codex, save for maybe the apothecary terminator.

You're also missing a 5th weapon on those squads. But I'd suggest using halberds against sisters either way, more AP and you'd still be reliably wounding them with the +1 str.

As for your last model, I'd say that taking the Dreadnought is the best choice. It's a unit that you can barely ever go wrong with, and it can serve a variety of roles on the table.

One has to wonder. Do the Tyranids consider drop-assault troops... fast food?

Can I ask why people only give 1 Warding Stave per squad? Am I missing something?

In my case it's because the army was built back in 5th where the Stave gave a 2+ Invulnerable save in CC. They still give either a 5++ or +1 Invuln but I think they've been overshadowed by the Halberds and Falcions

I think it's still good, i was wondering why i saw always one per squad and not the full squad.

There are limited number of them per box. there is enough falchions, swords and halabards for the entire squad. But hammer and staff are one per sprue. So not everyone can run 4 staffs 4 halabards set ups.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

I mostly use Halberds in my army a few falchions here and there and some daemon hammers. I had bought 2 10 man squads and built 2 purgation squads and 2 normal strike squads so had a ton of options since I used the heavy weapons and not Close combat weapons.

So I ended up running the list with a couple of minor changes:

Brother-Captain
5x Knights w. Swords
5x Knights w. Swords
Dreadnought w. Melta

vs

Cannoness w. Inferno Pistol
Icon-bearer
5x Dominions w. Storm Bolters
10x Sisters w. Heavy Bolter
10x Sisters w. Heavy Bolter
2x Penitant Engines

Tide of Shadows helped in the first turn as his Dominions only killed 1 Knight thanks to Blessed Bolts. Smite and shooting soon wiped them out.

Turn 2, the Penitant Engines make short work of the remaining Knights, but are promptly wiped out by the Captain and Dread. The Dread then eliminates his Cannoness with Melta before himself and the Captain easily finish off the remaining Sisters.

Good overall list I think. Planning to restart this GK force. Is there a general consensus on the best Nemesis weapons for your basis squads?

Swords/Falchions against GEQs and Halberds against MEQs.
I'm interested to know what you ran the Brother Captain with, as he's usually the best candidate for the hammer. But the staff would be the best choice, given models like the Canoness usually come with things like the melta pistol in hand. Even if she fires it in melee, the +1 to his invul would still kick in.

I would suggest you look up a few tutorials on magnetizing weapons, such as hands and even dreadnought arms. It really helps to save a lot of trouble for you in the future, and makes switching up weapons so much easier.

As for upgrading to higher points list. Turn the dreadnought into a venerable, grab some terminators, and maybe a librarian if points allow. You'd have to drop one of the strike squads, but that's the beauty of your terminators being listed as troops as well.

Also, look into grabbing a set of assassins. They're much cheaper than they used to be, and they can be a nice addition to your army when you need that little extra push on a certain target.

Congrats on the win.

One has to wonder. Do the Tyranids consider drop-assault troops... fast food?
