Hi All,

I'm a new player. I started Warhammer when I was a kid, but it only lasted about a year. I quit back then due to money and who knows what else. I haven't painted anything in about 20 years- a lot to learn there.

Anyway, I'm going to field an Ork army for a 1k pt newbie tournament. My local shop is having a tournament to introduce new players to the competitive scene- it's perfect for me since I've never really played a game before. With that being said, are there good resources for me to construct a rather "meta" Ork 1k army for this tournament? I do think the fun will be theory crafting a bit later on. However, I don't know anything about the game yet and I'd rather get in and learn the fundamentals with something tried and tested.

Long story short, any good lists around for a 1k army for a newb tournament?

Thanks in advance!

Typical competitive ork lists are either mechanized or boy hordes. I don't know what a mech list as 1k would look like, but for a 1k horde list I'd do something like:

Goff Battalion
Big Mek in MA - KFF, kustom shoota, kill klaw relic, follow me ladz trait, da kleverest boss
Weirdboy - Da Jump. If upgraded to warphead, take Bull Charge (Goff power) or Warpath

90 choppa boyz , Nobs with a single killsaw. All upgraded to skar boyz (-3 CP)
5 Kommandos

MA big mek acts as a pseudo warboss while also providing the KFF. Boyz dominate the board and Kommandos can help with objectives. You can tweak it of course, but I would avoid cutting too many boyz.

I reckoon if you need it by all painting by next month, go for a buggy and bike list, it will be much more fun. Nob on warbikes and multiple suicidal snazzwagons, plus small squads of boyz and grots. Or just one Stompa

A boyz list can be a pain to push out, but 90 battle ready boyz is doable. Might want to try and get a smasha gun or two to deal with transhuman
