Hi everyone,

I first started playing Warhammer 40k back in 2009, which feels like a lifetime ago. How time flies! When I was a younger lad, I played either Space Marines or Tyranids, depending on what mood I was in at the time - and how much pocket money I had saved. I still remember the moment I bought my first Hive Tyrant ;-;

Recently been thinking a lot about getting back into the hobby - namely collecting Sisters of Battle, maybe - and was hoping to meet some people who could point me in the right direction in returning to the hobby. I was never much good at painting - but I want to be! - and I loved playing the game way back when!

Lovely to meet you all, hope to get to know you all soon

Im in the same boat. I stopped playing back in 2011/12. I played Grey Knights, Iyanden, and Necrons.
40k in 40 minutes from youtube kinda sucked me back in and ive been looking to start up a salamanders list.
Always loved the salamanders but in my local meta there were WAY to many space marine and nids players so i went with something different.
Plus at the time the eldar were kinda broken I abused the cheese while I could.

Hi, thanks for replying! Really nice to meet you A Youtube video suckered me back in too! Mine was a video Cosmonaut Variety Hour uploaded some time last year, but I only just saw it a couple nights ago >.<

Also, when I was doing my grocery shopping earlier this evening I saw a copy of White Dwarf and ended up buying that on top of all the other boring stuff I had to buy. I remember reading the battle reports in those ages ago before I got properly into the hobby, and I still have them somewhere in my flat. I really want to play something like Adepta Sororitas, and maybe make a larger army one day with Imperial Guard making up most the meat of it and having a Battle Sisters squad as a detachment or something? (I don't know how 9th ed works at all)

I've heard 9th ed is really good, but I don't know how it works/anyone in my area to play it with :/ Need to decide what to start collecting first, though! And brush up on how to paint miniatures ... Hmmm.

this is a good place to start with 9th ed.
I havent played a single game yet but these guys make it easy to understand and their videos are super clean and streamlined making it a joy to watch
its closer to watching televised sports than a normal 40k battle report thats 3 hours long of guys just rolling dice.

Well welcome back. It's a pretty good time to be a Sisters player short of our own scout/ alt troop unit and maybe a terminator suit equivalent unit we actually have a decent range now, and some of the new models coming out are drop dead gorgeous.

This edition may be the worst ever, but 40k as a game mechanic has been going downhill since third. I stopped at this last edition because it was so laughably bad.

So it's a bit of a double edged sword. Also most old marines stuff is in legends and will continue dropping into being unusable, so you might want to look into Primaris stuff if you want to still play that faction.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Hello! Welcome back. I was not aware 9th ed was so controversial! It's certainly more complex than 8th, and suffering from codex creep, but it is in a far better state for casual fun than the days of 7th.

Your best bet to starting Sisters is going to be finding a Dark Eldar player to split Piety & Pain with. I am not sure they have a combat patrol or starter box. I say just get a couple boxes of Sisters and whatever you think is cool to start. There are lots of painting tutorials on YouTube.

Alternatively you could check out games with a smaller investment cost. What I would recommend really depends on your local community or friend group. Blood Bowl, Necromunda, Infinity, and Bolt Action are all good fun and considerably cheaper to get into.

Welcome to the party!

I'd suggest Kill Team but I don't think Sisters have rules for it
