I'm a little more worried since we've only seen board game from them that wasn't the LCG and it wasn't much from what I remember. I'm surprised they haven't been using it for more things before then aside from the RPG (which while not my favorite edition has been well supported)

The boardgame was "simple" and cheap, but it's a great little game, very much worth it.

I'm... afraid I can't say more ^^.
It wasn't bad, but I'm more surprised they haven't done anymore. Rokugan has so many aspects you could turn into little games.

Indeed. I still have hopes for a winter court game using something similar to BSG's mechanics.

FFG decided to go with Arkham Horror for the BSG redux, i.e., Unfathomable (yes, I preordered). Even if that game does well (and I’m sure it will) I doubt we’ll see it reskinned again with a L5R theme. No complaints if that’s what happens, however.

Years back, AEG did a hidden info style game about ninjas (if you believe that such a thing even exists in Rokugan!) infiltrating a Lion enclave. I’d like to see FFG do a high production value, narrow focus game like this.

But heck a huge map game with tons of minis would be nice too!

Huge stretch, but does nayone know if there is a 3rd edition character generator anywhere? My quick searches came up empty.

My typical play group prefers everything electronic so this would help remove one potential barrier to getting a few games played.

I'm pretty sure there was one, at one point, but I haven't been able to find it, sorry :(

Looks like L5R is going down the 5E route now.

Blagh.

Define.

Like, 5E rules? Ew. The FFG edition of L5R was sloppy but its charm is what it really has going for it.

Edge will make a product (line?) called Adventures in Rokugan which will use the 5E rules.

Well isn't that a familiar sight. We had 3.5 Rokugan and now we've got 5E Rokugan.

Yeah that's ew. Not sure how they could maintain the flavor without heavy hacking and at that point why? 5E really can't accommodate the social aspect well either. About the only upside is that combat will be more fluid >.>

It's sad. They really only have themselves to blame for a lot of it. L5R 5E is a very janky system with a lot of rules bloat and ambiguity is some of the wrong places. Streamlining that system into a 5.5 would probably be about as much work as porting it to D&D 5E and still produce a system that better captures the setting.

But I guess that would require the publisher to care and all they seem to care about right now is Arkham Horror and Marvel money... Admittedly Arkham Horror is pretty great I love it I'm part of the sickness >.>

Well, on the upside L5R 5th is not being discontinued or anything. So far, the only news I have is that Edge is creating a sort of "campaign supplement" for the D&D system.

I've yet to see the draft (supposedly I'm gonna do a lore revision on the book when it's done) but they've said so far that they want each system to be focused on a specific play experience, with D&D going for the more "epic" vibe and 5th for the more social approach.

But we'll see. To me, it mostly feels very much like a corp-initiated move.

They just want to break off a piece of that sweet 5E money! It is easier to tap into that, then try to continue to push a competing RPG.

Very true, and this is a tactic many publishers are taking. C7 did a 5E-driven LotR game called Adventures in Middle-earth in parallel to their much better The One Ring game. I think another one was Trudvang Adventures. “Adventures” seems to be the keyword for trying to get a slice of that 5E visibility.

So, apparently (and for once), Edge Studio is ramping up the hype for a game, namely Adventures in Rokugan.

Forbes article, Gen Con games and presentation, intro video... the works:

Also, there's already a thread at rpg.net about the game, pretty light-info at the moment.

I'm currently under NDA, so I'll be able to tell stuff when it's released.

Ok, Gen Con has started, so I've started a WiR thread for Adventures in Rokugan over at rpg.net, in case you wanna take a look:

I just got my D&D 5E group to agree to play L5R as its own system. I only have L5R 3E, but am looking for:

1. Are there online character building resources I can point them too? They want to create their own characters, and I am not sure I want to take 1 full session just on the number crunching to make a character!

2. Easy resources I can send them to to get the basics of Clan, Family, School and general setting that is not too crazy in details.

3. Any tips for introducing new players without overwhelming them, and setting the right tone for players coming from 5E.

1. For a character builder, there's Paper Blossoms (https://github.com/dashnine/PaperBlossoms) but usually most of the time spent in chargen goes to answering the 20 questions, not really that much on numbers ^^

2. Well, the 5e core rulebook actually is pretty straightforward in that regard, and there's a small blurb for each clan and family, so you can probably just use that. This is also for the LCG, but should help too: https://imperialadvisor.com/2017/05/07/legend-of-the-five-rings-an-introduction-to-the-background-for-new-players/

3. Usually the best way is to start them off with their gempukku ceremony, there's a reason why the Topaz Championship has been an enduring traditional introduction adventure: it helps players to get into both the system and the world of Rokugan, as it's a competition on the skills that a samurai is supposed to have, so it serves both as introduction for the players to those and to help them familiarize themselves with the system. Usually there's also one or more "B" plots to get it going.

EDIT: ...gah, I didn't notice the "3rd edition" disclaimer, sorry. Yeah, as I said before, I don't know of any 3e character builder.

I tried to pick up the new 5e book from my FLGS, but they did not have any of the Prop dice.... so I decided to wait until they come in.

I guess they have been on back order for a while?

I honestly have no idea... but it's probable, given that Edge Studio decided to heavily prioritize Adventures in Rokugan over L5R 5e.
