Hi everyone,

I am trying to create my own range of STL miniatures, and as it is my first time modeling a full set of figures, I would love to get some feedback.

My first undead models:

If this forum section is not the appropriate place where to showcase models please let me know.

Thank you!

Those look very nice indeed. The only nitpick I'd point is that hopefully the bases are separate from the model, as that will make printing much easier.

Also, if you can splurge to add a professionally presupported version, I'm sure many people will be more interested.

I would say those are among some of the best out there.

Yes, with and without bases would be a minimum. As far as pre-supported, I do not like or use them, but lots of people do. You can do what LKM did on their KS - Get your settings right in Chitubox and make a supported file and give the Chitubox file so if anyone wants to edit the pre-supported files, they can.

Thanks for the comment, and if you don't mind me asking: could you explain why separate bases should make the printing process easier?

Will definitely try that. Thanks!

you normally support from below. The base gets in the way of optimal support placement. Or you end up with supports that go into, and then out of the top of the base, damaging the highly visible base surface. And you still end up with rubbish supports to the details you really need to get the things to

Well, for me, I might have a different base I want to put them on or just want the mini with no base. Supporting the base is one possible issue, but I found laying the model back about 35 degrees always works for me.

It will limit severely the ways you can support the mini for printing: as the base is the single biggest part of the mini and it has a big, flat side, you will need a lot of supports just to make sure it prints correctly and that it doesn't warp (particularly the first part to be printed can if it hast too few or too many supports), and they will have to be big nough to support it.

After that, anything that is above the base that will also needs to be supported (the mini) will be harder to access from the base, so the supports will be more complex, harder to take out or too slim... or they will go through the base and mar the surface.

It also limits the options for the mini, as you can use another one. Plus, in many cases the base can be printed without supports directly on the plate if it doesn't have a mini above it.

Awesome!

I'm gonna echo the others, please don't make the base an integral part of the model.

And a different nitpick: the archers' helmets shouldn't have the visors, the melee skeletons' should have them.

Thank you for all the comments about the bases, they are very instructive.

The Archers' visors were meant to shade their eyes from the sun (well, in their previous life as now they don't actually have eyes), but maybe the idea was not that well executed.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

And I've just completed a new undead model: a Lich/Necromancer/Dark Priest.

Your Liche is awesome! Great detail. One of the things I do like are your proportions - some skeletons out there are either so thickly boned they look silly, or too thin as to be very fragile. Your use of armour and such in keeping the thin bones sturdy to print and use is great.

Are you looking to offer for sale, patreon, KS or just creating to offer to the world?

Keep up the excellent work!!!!

I'm not sure yet; but at the moment I certainly have very few models, so I intend to spend the next couple of months growing my collection of figures.

There are fantastic. There are some amazing (and less-amazing!) Skeletons on the market, and these sit comfotably alongside the best of them. As nentioned, the use of the armour to add structure and strength for printing. Aesthetically, they feel quite distinct too; there's lots of early medieval or viking-themed ones and plenty with Evil Spikes all over the place, these look a bit more advanced thanks to the heavier armour and gear. The Lich is nice and understated, I love a good floaty boss monster lich but sometimes that's a bit too grandiouse, nice to see a more sedate one that actually fits on a regular sized base!

Love them, but as others have said, lose the bases. Too many games for me to put them in and if I would use them for one game they would get multibased, some other games would get regular flat bases and others use square or round. Also please lose the tactical rocks, IF I would use your bases I want them all a little different, so I can change some small parts on the bases.

I would suggest to not lose the bases, but to offer versions with and without bases.

Oooo, these are gorgeous sculpts!
I'll reiterate what others said they have that balance of being skeletons without being bulky or too spindly. Well done.

You all have me convinced; I will definitely keep the bases separate.

And I'm taking a break from the skeletons to try to model something different: a tree with a small shrine.
