Super tiny giant battles is an all in one fantasy mass battle system, designed to let you play quick and deadly games of tabletop warfare on the go, on a lunch break, or at the pub.

Each set comes packed in an A5 bag and contains rules, dice, templates, two paper armies and a fold out play mat.
I'll be posting a breakdown of the game rules over the next couple of days over on the campaign page.

Kickstarter? Seriously?

The term "Taking the piss" comes to mind here.

Is this making fun of all the recent tabletop stuff kickstarters?

Yeah, how dare a smaller creator use Kickstarter for its original intended purpose and not as a third-party preorder system with plenty of FOMO buy-ins and add-ons.

I backed Nic's last project (Brutal Quest) and got a fun little OSR-esque skirmish wargame that'd be great to use with some old-school style Chaos minis. And I'll back this as a print-and-play to support his work and to see what else he makes.

A fool and his money, I guess...

Not seeing the need for the Kickstarter, but hey- I like a good joke just like the next guy.

I mean, this is something most people could probably make if they had 15 minutes of free time

Crayons, Construction paper, a plastic cover for a college paper, some graph paper, a couple of printer inks, a ream of printer paper....

Yeah, not seeing the old KS dollar-squeeze here.

No graphics, no printer, no editing, no publishing... No miniatures fees, no printing fees, just some off hand notes, a crayon colored "Battlefield", and some fold over standees...

Of course, I could see a Beer tab, or Bar fees, but other then that, Your really stroking it to justify this as a Kickstarter project, even if the guy is a great guy and a heck of a tipper.

Hey, it's not for everyone and that's fine

The whole reason for kickstarter in this case is that yes, I could probably knock up some rough copies at home , like the mock up pictured - but I wouldn't be happy with them. Kickstarter means I can produce more and spend more time redoing artwork, getting it looking nicer. like I said, that image is a rough mock, not the final thing - Kickstarter for me is about buying time to sit down and spend more time developing it into something nicer.

This. It is refreshing to see Kickstarter campaigns that aren't over bloated. Also this takes nothing away from those large kickstarter campaigns, plenty of room and scope for both to exist.

If it doesn't interest you, simple solution... don't back it.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

Kickstarters don't need to be 10's of thousands of dollars to cover production costs of miniatures and whatnot, they could just be a few grand to cover a week or two's wages, sort out production and supply, etc. If you have a few people you know are gonna buy it, it makes it worth dedicating the time to do it.

Personally I'd like to see something a bit higher quality though, some coloured artwork on nice card and a decent board, but still I can see why some might be into this. It's like wargaming but at board gaming prices, lol.

If anything I’d say there’s a missed opportunity to have print to demand copies of Super Tiny Skirmish/Sorcery as add ons.

But maybe that’s just because I’ve been checking Mammoth for reprints of Sorcery every week and seem to have missed them every time.

I don't know the company history and don't have time to learn another system but I don't see any reason why people have such an issue with kickstarting a small game. It's publicity and a way of dealing with a batch initial release, and a reasonable price for a small company's game IMHO. It's just a funding platform.

Because people have been trained by the last ten years to see Kickstarter as a pre-ordering platform that provides games that come with 100 minis for 100$, including a bunch of Kickstarter exclusives that are chase figures to be hawked on Ebay for 4-6x their Kickstarter price.

Kickstarter was started as, and is supposed to be, a crowfunding platform for entities that would not otherwise be able to have the up-front capitol to produce products, often which are passion projects. Most large game companies do what would be akin to having GW do a kickstarter for a new Codex that would come shipped with special KS-only models that no one buying the codex later at retail would be able to field. All the while never being in a financial situation where they "needed" donor money up front to make the project possible.

Most people have been convinced that Kickstarter is the only way games can be produced, as if no one ever started game lines with private investment and loans before Kickstarter. Multi-million dollar companies like CMON and Privateer Press do NOT need up-front money to produce a game, they are just jumping on the bandwagon.

I actually own excellently produced boardgames that would NEVER have seen the light of day without Kickstarter, and they barely even came with any exclusives. I just backed to be part of a cool project.

Or people got used to Kickstarter being used to fund things that don't look like anyone could make them in a shed with a piece of paper and 15 minutes of free time?

Soooo.....don't back something you don't see as worth it? Can you draw well? Do you have good graphics layout skills? Or would you have to pay someone to have that contracted out? That's what Kickstarter is (supposedly) for, especially at small scales. It's a GoFundMe, but with usually a material payback at the end (but in some cases not even that). 5 bucks for a PDF copy is cheaper than LOTS of stuff on Wargame Vault of similar nature, with the added bonus of spending a bit more to have all the stuff sent to you.

Now I would gladly pay 5 measly bucks to print and play something I felt worth it, but some people would rather pay more to skip the work. I personally feel it's insane that people pay to have their models painted for them, but that's their prerogative, I guess.

Seems like an excuse to be publicly judging and bitter.

I backed Brutal Quest and think it's awesome, well worth the 10 bucks.

This one is not up my alley but thanks for this thread, I had a good laugh seeing how angry people get over such things hahaha.

It's fun to look at your posts as a whole, groaning and moaning about GW and big money companies ruining the hobby for cash...and then groaning and moaning when a little company tries to put out a game using 'the website for raising funds for putting things out (like games)'. 'These new models are just a cash grab', 'these sculpts are too old', 'this box of stuff is way too expensive...and also I'm furious there wont be enough of them for me to buy one' - you're just angry, friend. I dont think using this website is good for you.

There is quite a significant diffrence between "little company tries to put out a game using the website for raising funds for putting things out"
and...
whatever even this is.
