I recently received a pretty significant loss against an Ork army run by an opponent who outplays me more often than not. I'm trying to build the list with it in mind as well as try and retain a take all comers type army. I've played nearly 70 games of 9th with my Craftworld and generally feel fairly comfortable playing them, but Orks really threw me for a loop.

Dire Avengers (5 models/squad) are Power Level 2. This equates to me having the option of placing 5 x 5 DA squads in Strategic Reserve for 1 CP. For 275 points, it gives me 60 shots with exploding 6's on a flank to help ensure they can eliminate a large Boyz squad, or other threats based on opposing army.

I want the army to have the ability to completely remove 30 strong Boyz Mobs, not be overly susceptible to Mek Gunz, and have the ability to remove Ghazkull in a single turn.

Thoughts?

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

1cp allows 1-9pl of units to outflank. You are going to be better off with a unit of defender guardians with aeldari missile launcher platform.

But I'd start by dropping the storm guardians first, unless you have a reason to take them, and for 1cp you can then webway portal 20 defender guardians with 2 missile launchers (which have blast).

What about mek gunz is your particular ailment?

That is a great catch about Strategic Reserves.

Normally I play 1 x 8 Storm Guardians as they are a unit assisting with ROD (Deploy Scramblers), sit on an objective and if the objective is in the open, act as a sacrifice unit. I'll use Celestial Shield and it has forced many opponents to over commit shooting on a unit I've already written off.

The Mek Gunz (forget the exact one) does exceptional damage to vehicles/Wraithlords, so I am trying to actively reduce their effectiveness through lack of easy target selection.

I like it. I usually find AML's very useful as a versatile option against hordes and, in case it's not a horde army, can serve as anti-vehicle.

But I like the idea of 5x5 DA's in reserve, they will do well against hordes.

How do you plan on using Irillyth? In general and vs him. Maybe in reserve too, come out and snipe Ghaz/key units?

Irrylith is in Deep Strike with the Spectres and comes in with them. He grants them re rolls of 1 to hit for the Spectres. He is ok, but I would not claim he is very good. He does not benefit from his own reroll 1s to hit nor does he benefit from Craftworld traits. However, his shooting profile is fairly solid and can be used in assault against lesser threats.
