Hi all,
I'd like opinions on which finish looks aesthetically better. I get that the 'before' pics are really half-way-done pics, but I do sometimes feel like the added colours and features just detracted from what was a better look, overall.
Please consider.

The red additions do add more visual interest to the models, but the painting technique makes them look cleaner compared to the base colour. If you weather the red a bit, or even just do the red before you hit the model with washes, it should tie in a it more.

Option 2 is much better than option 1. Option 1's minis just look unfinished because there is no differentiation between materials and/or details.

The details you've painted look very clean, which shows good technique, but does clash a bit the messy/weathered look of the main color. I agree that you should do the red before hitting the model with washes. They look pretty good overall though. Once you feel up to it, I'd also paint the eyes of the marines. If I recall correctly, you're a bit of a newer painter, so I understand the hesitancy of painting the finer details.

I agree with all the previous, however they are your marines and if you like Option 1 better for any reason, that is your decision as the owner and painter. I gave my thoughts on Option 1 previously in a different thread, so you know that I don't think they look bad even if they seem unfinished at first.
Whatever you go with, keep up the good work getting paint on models, that's unfortunately more than many can say in this hobby!
