It seems that the defender allocates wounds as they are created. They are not accumulated for later allocation.
It also seems that I can roll each attack individually.
Can I swap between 2 different weapons profiles and back again as I resolve them individually?

Heres a quick example where it would matter:
4x 3-wound terminators.
I'm going to cause 4x2Damage and 3x1Damage unsaved wounds.
I roll the 2D together, and then the 1D.
First term gets allocated 2x2D attacks and 1D is wasted. Same for next termy. Third Termy gets 3x1D attacks. Opponent is left with 1 unwounded (fully wounded? Thanks English) terminator.

Or, I resolve them alternatingly.
First term gets 2D and then 1D.
Same for second.
Same for third.
Fourth gets remaining 2D.
Opponent is left with 1 terminator with just 1 wound left.

Now theres no way to know how many wounds you will cause, but it looks like if we can, we should always roll them to minimise damage waste.
Is that allowed?

You can roll your attacks in any order you wish. However, you must complete one models attacks before moving onto the next model. So, in your example, if you had 7 models each with a single weapon and of those 7 3 had 2D weapons and the other 4 had 1D weapons you could alternate between them to achieve your goal. If you had a model which did 3 attacks all at 2D and the other models all had 1D attacks then you would have to make all of your 2D attacks in order with the 1D attacks coming on either or both sides of the 2D attacks.

I hope that helps you.

If your fast rolling you roll one profile at a time

Ergo you pick your two damage weapons you roll the to hits to wounds save and then assign damage

Then you roll all of the next weapon profile.

If they are mixed damage and mortals you assign damage then mortals

If they are different damage types you cannot fast roll them together

Defender does the allocating to a model but once allocated to a model they go to that model till its dead

If damage is variable. You fast roll up to variable damage then roll one at a time

Actually after further reading I'm not sure this is true.
For shooting you must follow 3 rules: (paragraph 4 under "Select Targets").
1) Resolve a units shots before moving on to the next unit.
2) Resolve all weapons fired per target before moving on to the next target.
3) Resolve all weapons of a similar weapons profile before moving on to the next weapon profile.

It seems that these are also mentioned under "Select Weapon" of the fight phase rules.

So the ability to not lose wounds and get maximum damage would be quite rare/require heavily mixed unit loadouts.

Even though the "Making Attacks" rules briefly mention the ability to roll more than dice at once, they don't say when or what section to find that in.
I skipped 7th and 8th ed, but this edition is so overly complicated.

Try the 'Hints and Tips: Fast Dice Rolling' sidebar on the very next page.

The next page is the charge phase. I don't see any such hints and tips part.
I can only see the free rules and the mini rulebook right now. Is that in big book only?

The Fast Dice Rolling' sidebar is in the printed book, I do not see it in the free PDF download.

It basically says you can only fast roll hit rolls and wound rolls. Then you have to allocate one attack at a time and have the opponent roll for save etc. one at a time.

True, but inaccurate. In order to make several attacks at once, all of the attacks must have the same ballistic skill, or the same weapon skill. They must also have the same strength and AP, the same damage, they must be affected by the same abilities, and they must be directed at the same unit. If this is the case, make all hit rolls together, and then all wound rolls. Your opponent can then allocate the attack one at a time, making saving throws, and suffer damage.

Does that contradict the part where you need to resolve attacks with all of one profile before moving on to the next?

What I said was not inaccurate.

Your statement is incorrect, because what I said was not inaccurate, it was in basic terms and referenced the actual rules for fast rolling...

It was inaccurate, because you only mentioned a small part of the entire fast rolling rule. You didnt mention the same BS/WS skill, damage, AP, targeting the same unit. The way you said it would be possible to use different BS/WS skills, not the same damage, shoot at different units, etc.

It would not be possible to use different BS/WS skills because the rule does not allow it. I was giving the basics of the sequence, I was not quoting the rule.

What I said was not at all inaccurate. If you think it was, you need to actually read what I wrote. As Nos says, "It wasn't inaccurate, it was incomplete. If you're going to correct someone, correct them correct,y"
