All I know, is that no one in my group can handle them. Especially when he takes two mega gargants in 1k.

Wolfspear's 2k
Harlequins 2k
Chaos Knights 2k
Spiderfangs 2k
Ossiarch Bonereapers 1k

Not in regards to that army but when I was playing up until 2019 our group had similar dynamics with the balance of AOS and one or two players basically not being able to be touched because they built nasty lists and wouldn't tone them down (and many of us weren't interested in buying new models regularly to keep up)

IIRC, you could make 4 Mega Gargant armies in 2.0 and still can in 3.0.

So they haven't really lost anything, and have gained the big boon of being an all hero-monster army.

You couldn't in 2.0, because you needed ~500 points in mancrusher gargants for battleline. Now that the Mega Gargants are battleline, too, you can make 4 Mega Gargant lists.

I could've sworn you could make all mega lists in 2.0. But, it's neither here nor there. Right now you can and it's disgusting.

Skaven - 4500
OBR - 4250
- 6800

Three big factors:

-New command abilities. One of megas biggest problems on offense was low hit characteristics, one of their biggest problems on defense being a mediocre save characteristic. Not to mention they are getting statistically more; 1 cp to buff a quarter of the army (at 2k, more at lower values) is a larger percentage than most armies are getting.

-Hero & monster actions. Monster actions are an obvious boon, but I think people overlook just how strong finest hour is on a mega.

-Amulet of destiny. Statistically a 5+ ward is equivalent to a 50% increase in wounds. Pretty sure any army would see a pretty big performance increase if it got handed an artifact that gave a hero 17.5 extra wounds.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

SoB sound like the AoS equivalent of Imperial Knights to me. Either your list can deal [insert how many wounds a mega gargant has] per turn and dumpster them or it can't and they're unbeatable

Its a bit different to be honest. 3++ saves on them for a start.

A large part of the issue is the generic artifact Amulet of Destiny, which is way over the curve anyway but for SoB especially essentially gives you 18 extra wounds. That's busted as hell and needs to go.

I have very little faith in gw on that. It may be in the old world, but that doesn't stop it from continuing to be a super hero game like aos is or one where you have to chase after the meta and constantly swap armies on a yearly basis if you want to be able to have fun games that aren't blow outs.

I haven't seen them winning many events though, or even placing as highly as say Lumieth/Soulblights/Daughters of Khaine. I'm coming at this from very much an outsider perspective so I could be totally clueless but it seems like they're kinda busted in generic play and casual metas and mini tournaments but in GT's they're getting largely rolled or relagated to gatekeeper faction

Heres hoping it will be more of a narrative game system than ultra competitive. That being said, elves are always good and I can't wait for my wood elves to be back in action!

SoB are doing very well competitively, some official GW stats here:

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2021/09/10/metawatch-which-warhammer-age-of-sigmar-armies-contested-the-top-tables-at-the-warhammer-open/

They don't have the most tournament wins, but they have easily the most game wins. Basically they have some key weaknesses, but just steamroll a lot of games.

Winning tournaments just means that among the most overpowered builds every army can bring, those ones are still OP. Not being at the very peak of cheese mountain doesn't mean an army isn't crapping on the vast majority of the game.

And this is a cheese mountain, so those are some pretty devastating dumps.

Absolutely. They're the most played army at competitive level, and that alone is a bit alarming.

Everything there yes.

Winning tournaments was never something I considered to be the gauge of if its fine or not. I know a lot of people that would play in our campaigns that would absolutely roll over brutally the for-fun campaign builds, but because their own army didn't often win tournaments, they deemed it as a "casual build" and acceptable for in a fun casual campaign environment.
