Yeah, I don't remember him saying that. It was more a case of him giving us a glimpse at a collectors model that isn't seen around much anymore, and then detailing what a massive pain in the neck it was to build and paint.

I don't remember mine being that much of a pain to build - I certainly managed to do it without resorting to a drill press. But then, I'm not running a YouTube channel, so I didn't need to be entertaining while I built mine, I suppose. And I doubt anyone will pay me 25 large for it.

I'd sell a lot of my dreams for that money. I'm sure he could buy a couple others that are still unassembled and paint them up with the new funds. Plus when you donate money to someone you don't get a say in how they spend it. It's like giving money to a homeless person, you hope they buy a meal with it instead of a beer, but in the end your not going to get your money back.

How it was originally presented by Squidmar was that we would pry that model from his cold dead hands before he would let that dream go.
It now seems his dream was to paint it only (and maybe make a fair bit of money).
He moaned a fair bit about the assembly that is for sure.
He does have a fairly young family to support so he gets a bit of a free pass in that regard with me.

I hope the viewer that gave him a deal on it was not regretting much.

I don't think we would see Vince V. or Goobertown go and sell something like that off.
It remains to be seen what MidWinter Minis does with the Warlord Titan going together.

I really like Squidmar's wetblending but he does not seem to go very far out of his comfort zone.

I think this is why "52 Miniatures" gets my patreon donations because of how earnest he is and everything is an experiment with him... it is unique and a result of an experiment: he would not let that go.

I think Squidmar is a bit more pragmatic than we were expecting of such a presentable guy so it was surprising.

Another though is that as he's got skill and as this was well publicised it might be that a few of those who bid (esp those who bid it very high) might well have been pressuring him through private messages.

It might be that they offered enough proof and commitment that he felt that the amounts they were willing to offer were just too good to pass up when combined along with life's pressures.

I'd wager most of us would be willing to part with even a rare or unique model for some pretty significant sums of money. $25K for a model, even built and painted, is a phenomenal amount. Even if he'd only been tempted with offers half that amount it would still have likely been enough.

And let's face it. If it's his dream model he certainly made enough profit to buy another one if he desires.

I doubt he ever would have got $25k if it weren't for youtube. I don't know what these kits commonly go for, but even if it were $10k, you could get buy one and commission a good painter to do an award worthy paint job for well under 25k. Even if someone charges $50 an hour, $5k buys you 2.5 weeks full time work to get it professionally assembled and painted.

This. I totally love all my miniatures and wouldn't think about selling them unless I absolutely have to, but if people start offering this kind of money - off they go.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks do not think that purple makes them harder to see. They do think that camouflage does however, without knowing why.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

He said on numerous video's in regards to the thunderhark, even the one where he announced he would sell it, that it was his dream model to own/build/paint from his youth.

He owns it, he gets to decide what he does with it.

I'm just fairly amazed it reached that much money though.... I don't even think the paint job on it is that outstanding to be honest, obviously a very high calibre paint job but bland in some respect. That is a subjective opinion though that others will not share I'm sure.

It will be interesting to see if the person who had bid £25k actually ponies up the money. I think buyers regret will kick in potentially, and I'm sure some of the other higher bidders will be a bit relieved now as well. The only people in the world who could buy that, for that much conformably without a screw loose are multi-millionaires, so maybe that is who purchased it, but if it isn't. Well, I think there is a chance the payment doesn't go through. The winning bidder only had 3 feedback I think also.

Maybe, though some folk just don't use ebay much unless it's something they really want and can't get elsewhere.

Jesus thats what you get by being a YouTuber you get your decisions analysed and criticised under a microscope.

I have seen some of his videos and they are enjoyable to watch, the mini really payed off and Its a good outcome for everyone.

I struggle to see value on any 40k miniature above the 100 mark though,

Yep, youtubers often have more people paying attention to them than traditional celebrities. He has a third of a million subscribers, and I'm sure many more who occasionally watch his videos that aren't subscribers. That's a lot of people to critique what you do.

I wouldn't describe it as a "40k miniature" as much as I'd describe it as a "collectors item" at this point.

Well if you're putting your work and your opinions out on a public forum then, yeah, you're inviting feedback.

And feedback, even critical, is a lot better than silence.

I know but its the celebrity persona dissection, I don't get... You can criticise the work and all good but going deep on the reasons he sold the piece, why did he sell it? DO we really care about his personal life? I personally don't XD
Nice mini, nice build and paint job but stupid selling price and thats the subject IMO.
Not the - how dare he sell the mini, he said it was his dream mini what a freaking liar (exaggerated for comedy but you get the point) XD

That's the kind of public attention youtubers yearn for though

He only lost 3250 to ebay/paypal combined. Even more so, since that's quite a sum, he might also need to pay extra profit fees that are around 20% in most countries. So in the end he might have lost around 7500 pounds just for taxes.
Still, a great sale. I hardly make that much in 12 months

Apparently the model was purchased by a gaming store here in Melbourne, "The House of War". They posted pics of its arrival a couple of weeks back on facebook alongside 2 other unbuilt ones.

It's inevitable he will sell the manta as well... Which won't sell for anywhere near as much (even though the diorama idea looks cool) because it isn't a limited edition metal thunderhawk, but I'm sure he will make a decent profit on it after this.

GW should buy it themselves and put it in warhammer world if it turns out anywhere near the standard they are suggesting it will be (sceptical but super interested to see if they pull off the resin waterfall).
