I wasn't sure what was going to be revealed or not. It would have been a perfect opportunity to announce something for Christmas.

They gave us a list of what games were going to have previews, so we knew it wasn't going to happen. In the past if there was a surprise announcement or whatever they usually included that as a questionmark on the list, but they didn't do so here.

And yet they didn't do a Warcry preview.

I think the amount of effort being put into Marines overall is ridiculous. Black Templars are a sub-faction of a sub-faction and they get more relases than a full-fledged Xeno faction because they're Mehreens.

While I do agree on the marine fatigue (although not in this case as I'm serious about starting a marine force for the first time in my life), BT have been historically more legitimate a subfaction than IF (real world history not fluff).

BT were first mentioned in 2nd edition while IF got introduced in 3rd, BT were the game's posterboys and came in the starter box for an edition (3rd), had their own codex (4th), and bespoke models in addition to characters (of which they had more than IF).

This isn't necessarily directed at you exclusively, but marine players who moan about the release tend to confuse fluff with real-world IP prominence.

No, Dreamchild, the Imperial Fists were referenced in 2nd edition as well - I can't say that the Templars weren't mentioned in second, but all the First Founding Chapters/Legions were mentioned in books during 2nd ed.

I stand corrected. I wasn't really around for the 2nd edition; what I said was told to me by an older player and the only proof I could find of it online was the existence of an official BT model photo (that is, a marine painted black and referenced as a BT), and the lack of the same for IF.

The rest of what I said kinda still stands though.

Yeah Imperial Fists have been around basically since the beginning of 40k. One of the characters in the Chaos Child trilogy was an IF marine.

Man, I like the actual marines from that kit a lot, but those neophytes just aren't doing it for me. They're better than the current scouts, obviously, but not nearly enough to "waste" sprue space on. I'd rather have a ten man unit of bling-y marines and just convert up some necromunda enforcers to be the not-scouts. Should be an easy kitbash.

And I just noticed the neophytes' bolters: are those supposed to be old school versions? They don't look like the layout for any of the modern intercessor types, since they lack the distinctive cut where the clip/box/scope bit goes. And the current versions with straight mags are the sniper ones, right? That'll be an annoying mix, as the real marines definitely have the assault version in the photo.

Let’s be real. Marines sell more. Not a little more…a lot more. This isn’t a complex concept. GW, like any business, probably keeps track of what each kit sells. They probably even have a spreadsheet and everything. They also, like any business, keep track of how much each kit costs to produce (from idea, to concept art, to design principles, to sculpts, to kit construction, to marketing, to packaging, etc).

Instead of reading message boards for passionate posts, the profitable company monitors actual sales, and then they make decisions regarding future lines based on those sales.

It’s literally that simple.

Marines only sell more, because they make up more of relases. In fact, they sell proportionally more to how many relases they get. Between 2017-2021, Marines made up around 30% of 40k relases... and according to Games Workshops' own Metawatch data, they also happened to make up around 30% of the playerbase (at the time of their strongest Codices, aka Marines 8th, 2.0)

Because 100% of all 40k games ever played are recorded in competitive statistics, and all models are purchased for games. Just lmao

The playerbase is not indict I've of sales, just of players. There are plenty of players who collect more than one army, and plenty who collect but don't play in official events or at all.

It wouldn't have been gacky if they had at least built a add on sprue for the redemptor with BT specific pieces, but alas.

Just like Deathwatch ones could really use pieces for the L shoulder (instead of having to buy 3rd party).

Bad data read in the wrong way is much worse than no data because it coats baseless assumptions by a thin veil of legitimacy.

If marines doesn't sell more than anything else (even if the number of releases is taken into account) gw would be seriously incompetent to still put such an emphasis toward them.

Coupled with the fact that they rebooted fantasy to put fantasy marines into it, i think it's pretty obvious that they are GW main seller

People would rather play a supported army than one that's 90% Failcast.

Therefore, the army that receives support should consume all production resources going forward.

I can see why Dakkanauts are known for their brilliant logic.

Who cares! As long as they sprinkle some new kits into Xenos or other games then its all good. Still waiting for some Nids though.

Gencon seems like it was a positive spread of minis and kits previews. Not going to lie the Necromunda marked is freaking awesome!

I don't have one mini that screams - must have! But I'm puzzled with the spiders teaser. Gobbos? Chaos Dwarf industrial vibes though.

GW did well this weekend.

Whilst I'd ordinarily agree with the sentiment, there's probably even more Marine players casually than competitively. Even when they're bottom of the barrel (which they had been more often than not until late 8th) they tended to have a good showing in terms of people playing them when compared to other 'low tier' factions.

I don't think anyone was saying that, it's just common sense that GW puts profit first and the most popular army gets the most support.

I'm feeling skeptical of the Necromunda Market. The _box cover_ looks pretty cool. But...
the various gang models obviously aren't in there, and I'm not sure what pictured actually is. It may just be two duplicate sprues that make 2 awnings and a weapon rack each, and a couple of crates and objects, and that's it.
I worry its going to be quite disappointing in hand (same with the outlaws, since there's only 4 bodies, and duplicate heads just in the 12 models they're showing off)

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

To me how disappointing the marketplace kit is depends on the cost. To me it looks worth about 30 usd at the most, it's not even terrain that will do much to block line of sight. It doesn't look like it makes enough terrain to be worth more than that.

Yeah, $30-5 is about where I'm cool with more than one.
Any more and maybe one, maybe.

I really like the stronghold, but $90 makes it a much more expensive option for buying 2(I want to assault it from all sides(40k).

The market will fit in nicely.

Could you try being a little less intentionally dishonest.

Tyranids haven't had a model release since 2014. Some of the oldest models GW still makes are part of the Eldar range. Dark Eldar didn't even get a new model when their Codex arrived (Lilith had been released in a battle box previously).

Umm... what?

I don't have any Rogue Trader material handy, but I know that Space Marine, the novel by Ian Watson, came out in 1993. 3rd Edition came out 5 years later. They even got their own army box with custom metal IF parts in 2nd Ed.
