Thing about saying Lizardmen are culturally offensive... which culture and how? Really if we get down to it the sentiment that all of south and central America can be boiled down to one culture is more offensive than anything Lizardmen do. Settings to do more than just have X race with Y aesthetic to be offensive. The closest thing might be the Mongol-esque Ogre Kingdoms vibe, which they moved away from a while ago anyways.

I'd say normal Orcs, but I think the Kruel Boys have stolen their thunder as the "baseline" orcs. They even have the artillery.

With that said, probably Chaos Dwarves or Grotbag Scuttlers (though just using KO rules works and two "high flying" armies would step on each other's toes). Maybe wolf riders as an all cav destruction army, just to be different?

I also wouldn't mind the Tomb Kings returning, as I always thought just having them be Order aligned "undead" from the realm of light that hated Nagash would work (the early stuff talked about the hostile prismatic deserts of the realm a lot and the TK used light magic to power themselves). The OBR did take over some of their themes, though. I guess recurring chaff with a magic/shooting slant would be different enough?

Some Cities models that actually represent the realms would be nice, too. Slide the classic stuff back over to the Old World where they can be the Empire/Dwarves/Elves they were meant to be, rather than the weird refugee/mishmash collection they are currently.

That is a really, really good idea actually about the TK. I second this!

Also, I'd like to see Longbeards stay. Love me some classic beardy dwarves!

I'd love realm-based conversion kits. Mixed-race units for CoS would be great too, and might provide a means to cut back on the warscroll bloat without cutting units out of the picture entirely (especially given those units will likely be sticking around in production for TOW anyways).

I heard recently that Chaos Duardin are coming in 2022. Makes sense given the name drops they got in OWC--Hashut explicitly mentioned even.

here's a thought, we know something "chaosy" releases next, most people assume it's an army update... what if the oct/nov AOS release is chaos dwarves?

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Possible but I can't remember many things from the Rumor Engine that fits with them.

Could see them being an early 2022 army teased at Christmas

As a new faction I think

MALERION'S ELVEN ARMY

is the only god-led, faction still not released.

And an obvious chance to revamp an old range (just like DoK was revamped).

'ere we go!

Wouldn't be surprised (or unhappy) if Darkling Covens are rolled in as it is revealed they were working for Malerion the whole time.

This is what I have been waiting to see. It also feels like what is next as far as factions go.
I would like to see him come out for Destruction. Not that he has any real allegiance to the rest of the armies of that faction, he just wants to see it all destroyed and under his rule...in my head cannon.

Maybe I've missed it, but where are all the archers and rides that the Khemri had? To me that was always the central mechanical flavor of the Khemri. The numerous constructs were relatively recent developments for the Tomb Kings, though fairly welcome, but the Bonereapers really haven't matched them yet.

LordofHats wrote:My impression was that Fantasy had too many factions that overlapped too much and even before End Times the Tomb Kings were a fairly neglected army with a cult following in the fanbase. Lot like how Necrons were languishing real hard for years before getting a codex near the end of 5th (or the start of sixth?).

Well, Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts were overlapping in the recursion atmosphere, but they still operated quite differently. Where the problem lay was that Vampire Counts were favored and the Tomb Kings not. Vampire Counts had 2 massive updates surrounding the Tomb Kings one. While the Tomb Kings of 8th were most welcome when they arrived, Vampire Counts came along and did the same thing in 7th, having even cheaper units, better magic, better characters, etc.

Honestly, the overlap they had was like considering the overlap between The Empire and the Dwarfs when looking at making artillery lists. Yeah, they exist, but they operate very differently.

Yeah, this wouldn't surprise me being the next. Honestly, I was rather surprised to see the Kruelboys come out (but not complaining about their release).

Greetings folks,

So I thought I'd try to stir up a bit of discussion in the AoS forum by talking about something that everyone tends to have strong opinions on: New Factions.

What are some factions you would love to see? What are some themes you would love to see?

I'll start things off with a few fast-firing wants:

1) A united dwarf faction that can use all current dawi and a bunch of new ones. Let me unite the clans!

2) A Samurai faction. (I know I know: boo hiss!) What can I say: I like samurai.

3) A goblin technology based faction. Kinda like what they did with the KO, but with goblins! I'm picturing rows of gobo musketeers, ridiculous war machines, you get the idea.

Well, that's three, how about you? I'm sure you have at least a few faction ideas that have occurred to you at some time or another! Let's hear about them!

Samurai faction is just Cathay, it is already in the lore and will be in Old World, as well as a non-official WD army. (Many use Bret rules and just counts as/proxy the models)

It might be more China esk than Japanese but its the some idea IMO.

EDIT: Added links, and what i want

To add, I would like to see Shadow Elves, and flesh out wood elves with Sylvaneth at least.

As far as new new and not old but new? I want a couple armies bases of the realms and how the magic has mutated the area and wildlife. Image a Metal army from Chamon, for those that know MTG this would be like the Mir/Mirrodin artifact creatures that was cool. This should be a Destruction army as they are nature beasts/animals.

Elemental destruction army. Where Sylvaneth are the living world trying to establish order, an army of different sized elementals that just want to watch it all burn, crumble, drowned and suffocate could be good. As long as they don’t have a combined god named Captain Planet .

I want to see Wanderers come back as a solo faction or get completely retired.

That was a phenomenal range of models. It's pathetic how dirty they did them. Rolling them in with Sylvaneth would just be an additional insult.

Let the Kurnothi come in and take their place as wild pointyears.

Heh, I could see that, in a way. The argument is that the Sylvaneth are for the order of nature, not blanket destruction like the Greenskins and Ogors are. Of course, Beatsmen are also very much in the Destruction category, and it is only their loyalty to the forces of Chaos which created them which puts them in the Chaos camp.

I would like to see some destruction and/or death stuff that breaks the mold of their fluff a bit more. Both Order and Chaos have massive diversity in how their core identity and values are interpreted and applied by different factions. While destruction and death certainly have diversity they are still slaved to the identity of their respective patrons. FEC are the biggest outlier on that end, it would be great to see them expanded into a faction where some elements lie definitely outside Nagash's sphere.

We really do need a Death army that does not follow Nagash, the person shouldn't be Nagash god like but maybe found a way around it, this could open up a huge amount of lore and possible new armies. I don't know if the lore maniacs would like that or if GW would but me personally I hate that the gods are able to be killed but at the same time so controlling no one can compete but other gods. Let some armies have their own thing (blah blah Immortal with a potion, so stupid)

I kind of wish FeC would go that way with Ushoran or Neferata (though I don't know the lore enough to know which one is best or a better character to take up the mantle). They maybe make another potion or succeeded in making the Elixir and break free of Nagash.

Ushoran does kind of fill this role. A lot of FeC view Nagash as an enemy and treat him as such.
Ushoran's return would give FeC a bigger push into a wilcard faction for death.

Neferata would love to get rid of Nagash....she also already rules large populations of the living.
