So, the bodyguard rule allows for some janky stuff right now, with Celestine or Morvan being able to stand boldly out in the open without fear of getting targeted by ranged attacks, while the unit providing the bodyguard rule is hiding behind obscuring terrain.

So, what's the way around this?

1. Use out of line shooting to take out the bodyguards first. (not easy obviously, and not every army has such guns in the first place).

2. Charge the offending unit in close combat. (Not quite what you want to do with something like Celestine).

3. Psychic ? Erm, I don't know about this. Is smites and witchfire considered ranged attacks? Or are they defined as something else? Can someone clarify this?

Other than this, I honestly don't know how to get around this tactic of a bodyguard unit hiding behind obscuring terrain, making a character standing in the open invulnerable to shooting.

Ork lists have no problems taking out Sacresants in cover - fly past them with Dakkajets during a Speedwaaagh! and unload.

Lose all dakkajets in return fire.

Can you provide the relevant rules for bodyguard?

As for psychic, those are not ranged attacks. They are psychic abilities.

Here is the one for Celestian Sacresants.

Bodyguard: While a friendly Sanctified character unit is within 3 inch of this unit, enemy models cannot target that character with ranged attacks.

Curb stomping in the Eye of Terror!

You can actually include a fortification called the Battle Sanctum that's a terrain for sisters.

You can totally leverage that building with a huge obscuring footprint by hiding out the bodyguards protecting the characters, provided you can fit the building/terrain on the board.

I do not know if it is still true. But the old ork flyers actually rather liked getting shot up. They had a 'I blow up' roll on 4+ and 2+. I always had to space my units out to avoid getting blown up. (They also had a stratagem to blow up their own planes. But I think that is gone now.)

Ork planes are very good at attacking characters. It was hell for my GSC because it is so hard to flank vs them. I do not know why not more people use airplanes to kill characters.

The Stormtallon Gunship should in theory be able to do a similar job but I hardly see, them in lists. I think mostly because Orks can put so much preasure on the opponents turn 1 and 2 that there is not enough time to shoot down the dakkajet and the things that are charging you.
