Are you playing Matched Play or GT Missions? If so, the list is not legal as it violates the rule of three. Support Weapon is a unit choice regardless of weapon options (Vibro Cannon, D Cannon, Shadow Weaver) in which you can only select three.

They’re bought in units of 3. When the game starts you then split them up. So you can have 9 total right? 3 make up one unit.

3 can be purchased in a single unit. 3 Units totaling 9 individual support weapons is the max in Matched Play or GT Missions.

Vibro cannons hit their fast units to prevent advance. D cannons are non line of sight and pop tanks or monsters. Got 6 of them so there’s tons of firepower. Farseer hangs back and guides the war walkers. Warlock casts protect to give 2+3++.

Rangers try to snipe important characters and hold back field objective.

Wave serpents move in with infantry to hold objectives. Shadow specters drop in to blow away blobs of units or high value elite infantry.

Be aware the list is vulnerable to Bring It Down.

I don't think the Rangers are worth shooting and holding an objective. If they can shoot, they are in LOS to be shot at and not durable. They are better served by keeping in deep strike to assist in scoring Retrieve Octarius Data and Engage on all Fronts. Used in this fashion, 10 is too many in a squad.

The 3 War Walkers with AML have served me pretty well in several games. However, Jinx and Masterful Shots helps tremendously (aside from Guide).

10 Shadow Spectres can work pretty well, especially since they are not competing with other valuable units to utilize Fire and Fade.

I'm not apt to buy any more Support Weapons and have not run 9. They had some play in late edition playing ITC; not seen much usage for 9 now. Definitely let us know how it fares.

Be careful with Wave Serpents and claiming objectives. It can work against you in a couple ways. (1) It can act as a tool for your opponent to slingshot assault elements across the board. (2) An opponent moves 2 models onto the objective and does not try to destroy the Wave Serpent; they just took it from you.

What Craftworld Traits are you using? I'm assuming Expert Crafters and Masterful Shots.

I'm not sure what unit in your army would get a 2+/3++ when Protect is cast. Can you advise?

Let us know how it fares. I've run 3 D Cannons and it makes for some interesting area denial against low model count, elite armies.

I am a rookie so this is all up for changing. I suppose I could just drop the wave serpents and just run the infantry up the board for objective securing and give them the dire avenger shimmer shields, or maybe even include Asurmen and drop the warlock.

I thought that war walkers had a 3+5++ power field save, so I thought jinx would make it a 2+4++. I made a mistake typing 2+3++.

I am going to do expert crafters and masters of concealment to make the support batteries more survivable to incoming fire. I have had very good success with D-cannons in previous games when they were mounted on wraithseers. They would routinely be popping major threats. The last game I used 4 and instapopped a big tank turn 1 and crippled 2 others so they were hitting on 6's.

I think the vibro cannons may actually work to slow down an enemy army by negating their advance moves. I think the rangers can use their range and difficulty of being hit as their defense, and figure the enemy will be gunning for the support platforms instead of the rangers. I could use a smaller group, but then ill need to figure out where to add those points.

Very good point you made about the wave serpents acting as slingshots. I actually wouldn't mind a large group of enemy attempting to bring it down. I could fall back and then unload with shadow specters if they are hordes, or D-cannon spam if its elite infantry. Either way shadow specters are brutal counter punchers.

I guess ill have to practice. I printed 9 support cannons the other day and painted them up. should be a hilarious game to play either winning or losing.

Keep in mind you'll be getting 3+/4++ with war walkers, their base save is 4+. EDIT: nevermind me, no protect on them, thanks Sarigar!

D-Cannons on Wraithseers are much better than a platform due to the fact they're able to negate AP -1 and have a greater movement which increases their threat range. I ran one D-Cannon platform in a few games and it's great for area of denial, so do let us know how you get on with more. Keep in mind they're also insanely swingy with D6 damage.

I feel like this list is going to struggle with any list that ignores line of sight or has the potential to take down a wave serpent in one turn, which is becoming increasingly common with D3+3 and mortal wound output.

If you insist on taking rangers, bring 2x 5 man units, they'll be much better or just consider dropping them for a barebones Falcon or a Hornet.

Let us know how the D Cannons fare. A great match up I can envision is playing one of the 3 GT Missions that has a center of board objective and playing against armies such as Marines or Custodes.

I wish I could, but you cannot cast Protect on War Walkers. Infantry and Bike keyword only.

Rangers are not more difficult to hit. They have cloaks that improve their save by one if in cover. Generally, this means they have a 3+ save if in cover. You may have better luck, but I've not found Ranger shooting worthwhile.

Let us know how it works.

I did the wraithseer thing for a bit. They sometimes had amazing results. I got hot dice a few times and eliminated greater demons or other monstrous army leaders in a single volley from one wraithseer. Like you said that is swingy. But doubling the amount of D-Cannons would help hahaha.

The issue with mounting them on the wraithseer is that by turn 2 or 3 I was often in hand to hand combat and couldn’t shoot them anymore.

With support platforms you could more easily hide inside cover and even losing three of them you would still have three left. And you would have forced the enemy to maneuver and shoot specifically to eliminate them.

With six of them you only would need to get a little lucky turn 1 to decisively swing the game in your favor by eliminating or heavily damaging key targets. With phantasm you can also deploy them in one area then switch them to another if it’s too aggressive or dangerous for turn 1 if you’re going second.

What I have consistently found is that opponents are always shocked at the sheer damage they do. With expert crafters you’re getting to reroll a hit and wound for each platform because after deployment they count as individual units.

Strength 12 is also amazing

Once they are deployed, they immediately count as separate units. Phantasm works, but can only move three individual Support Weapons.

Im thinking of dropping the wave serpents, going smaller units of dire avengers, and using falcons instead for the pulse lasers. I guess I just need to play test more. I really dont know enough about 9th and competitive play to know which objectives I should go for (2ndary ones).
