Hello all!

I recently returned to the hobby after a twenty-nine year break, and finally finished my first (new) mini.

Bit rusty after all those years, and yellow wasn't a great choice of colour to ease myself back in.

I can't believe how much the hobby has changed since I last painted - where has all the metal gone?! I love the detail the resin minis have, but I miss the satisfying weight of a metal-mini, not to mention the mild case of lead-poisoning. The paints available now are amazing, and put my eighties-era Citadel sets to shame (rescued from loft and various sheds, most of them still working).

I'm sticking with Citadel for now, but will probably branch out to other paints soon. Any recommendations?

Welcome back to the best part of the hobby. The model is looking great, yellow can be so difficult. As for other paints other than Citadel, I have had great success using Vallejo and Tamia paints.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:

Seconding Vallejo paints. I love their colors, still uses Citadel for shades and technical/ texture paints.

That looks really neat!

Vallejo paints are a great choice, and have a look at using a wet palette with them - imo much better than GW paints straight from the bottle like in the old days. I'm still using GW for some shades, their verdigris and blood effects, and some of the Contrast range.

For metallics, nothing really beats Vallejo Metal Color, which are really thin airbrush paints, but they are very metallic and can be handbrushed on carefully.

So it's really looking like Vallejo are the way to go if I want to branch out from Citadel - thanks all!
