CLEANSING FLAMES
1CP
Order of the Ebon Chalice – Wargear Stratagem
When the Ebon Chalice go to war, they bring with them cleansing flames.

Use this Stratagem in your Shooting phase when an ORDER OF THE EBON CHALICE unit from your army is selected to shoot. Until the end of the phase:
-Add 4" to the range of all flame weapons that models in that unit are equipped with.
-Each time a model in that unit makes an attack with a flame weapon, on an unmodified wound roll of 4+, the target suffers 1 mortal wound in addition to any normal damage (a maximum of 3 mortal wounds can be inflicted per phase via this Stratagem).

This is the strat in question.

Question is, is this making the flamer weapon able to wound targets on an unmodified 4+ regardless of T or modifiers?

I had to look at this a few times and had a bit of a hang on moment, cause the wording on it is interesting

This is making the flamer weapon able to cause 1 mortal wound to targets on an unmodified 4+

For the target to suffer the normal damage from the flamer, you would still need to use the Str Vs Tough calculation chart in the BRB.

DeathReaper is correct. Normal damage is based upon the Wound Roll, but any unmodified Wound Roll of 4+ generates a Mortal Wound in addition to any other effect.

These types of rules are what makes me question the designers of this game.

So basically, you could "wound" the target, without actually wounding the target.

What kind of stupid logic is this??

The logic is the flames are so fierce they burn things they normally wouldn’t, and extra-immolate stuff they normally would.

Not hard to square away tbh.

Simple. You gain a second ability on the same roll. The Mortal Wound on a 4+ is a separate from whether you Wound or not.
