[Admins: I'm not certain if this thread is general or proposed rules. Feel free to move it if you think it fits better in the other forum!]

Hey everyone,

I thought I would make a fun little thread to air out ideas that would be a welcome surprise for any of the new upcoming codexes.

To keep things fun and light, I suggest limiting the ideas to things you think would actually help the army and also be fairly controversial (IE: a crazy surprise!)

(The reason I wanted to make this thread was after a conversation about how often the new 9th ed codexes have come with really unexpected army upgrades that were not extensively previewed etc.)

Personally? I want to see something bananas done with the "Auric Weapons" mentioned in the latest Custodes preview. I don't really THINK that they are going to do something crazy with it, but I would love it if they did. Something like ignoring invuln, ignoring negative to-hit or to-wound, ignoring damage reduction, some weird mortal-wounds thing... I'm sure you get the idea!

So what you got? What's a weird, unexpected, cool new power/rule you would like to see for one of the upcoming factions?

Here's a couple that I don't know if I'd like per se but would definitely be funny:
-Adrathic weapons to get Instant Death back from 7e. To keep it from being too overpowering the rule only applies to things that aren't vehicles or monsters.
-Farseers to allow you to have a sideboard and swap models out after seeing your opponent's list, or to allow you to look at your opponent's secondaries before picking yours.

^^^^* Going off the above

I'd love it if all aspect warriors were somehow set at the same point cost so that before the game, after seeing your opponents list, you could hot swap your aspect warriors around. That would really embody the whole "right tool for the job" kind of vibe they are supposed to have.

I'd also like to see Striking Scorpions be more awesome. They've always been my favorites.

Also - Warlocks need to be more pervasive and integrated throughout the army. Eldar are supposed to be THE powerful psychic race, with psychic connections running throughout the race.

Somewhere in Canada

Sisters of Silence having a Crusade Agenda to reflect them harvesting psykers for the Emperor's tithe.

FW 40k datasheets for Talons 30k stuff... Including the Kharon Pattern Acquisitor.

GSC Crusade content that reflects not only the subversion of Imperial resources, but also the growth cycle of the Cult ie. generations/ brood cycles.

The rules for Corsairs are actually good enough to make Corsair players satisfied if not actually happy.

Ditto for Ynarri.

Kick-a$$ Crusade rules for Ynarri.

Not Codex related but campaign book related: Updates to Inquisition rules that make Inquisition detachments fun to build and play by reincoporating such elements as Inquisitorial storm troopers/ Tempestus, chambers militant and vehicles to the inquisition army list.

Killer Crusade rules for the Inquisition which allows the work of their detachments in small games to benefit Imperial forces in larger games.

Codex: Squats

Codex (supplement?): Space Wolves
Next time it cycles back around to Space Wolves? 40k stats for Lemen Russ.
Why? Because I'd like to have 40k (not 30k) rules for the actual model I bought almost 30 years ago.

Codex Orks supplement: Metal Gitz. Deals woth those clans that realise true strength lies in metal. Contains multiple wildly customisable base units for dredd mobz and armored krumpanies, allowing Ork players to build all sorts of crazy vehicles and have them represented in rules. None of this newfangled "If we don't make it, you can't play it" nonsense. Unleash your inner mek and go nuts!

As you specifically asked to go crazy: significantly expanded terrain rules paired with lots of "special utility" tanks for imperial guard. Bridgelayers, minethrowers, something that diggs trenches, a sentinel option that lays smokescreens instead of shooting, "amphobious" being relevant etc.

Also: I would love one of the current 5 IG tanks (Carnodon, Leman Russ, Malcador, Macharius, Baneblade) be taken out of the " more points for more wounds and firepower" scale and instead get something special tactical for the additional points. A projectable void shield, "look out sir!" for other vehicles, a working ram-attack...

God that was good, Ripper swarms with Venom Cannons, Hive Nodes giving units LD10, etc.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

I'd settle for just getting those options back. The 4th Ed codex is my favorite just on account of how many upgrades were available, built into the unit entries. If you made a Nidzilla list every single Carnifex could be significantly different from the others, and I loved that.

On another Tyranids note, I'd be thrilled to see some innate unit recycling as the unique thing for 'Nids. The fluff always paints a picture of endless hordes, but you don't see that on the tabletop.

Astra Militarum Ogryns get heavy bolter stats for their ripper guns.
*Still Assault 3 and AP-1 in melee.
*Range 36" instead of 12".
*AP -1 instead of -0.
*D2 instead of D1.

Astra Militarum orders replaced with Auras.

Astra Militarum weapon relics get secondary effects that are almost on-par with other relics.

Craftworld Eldar shuriken weapons do not get extra AP on 6s to wound.

No Chapter Tactics for upcoming factions.

Octarius 2 actually has rules like that.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Good to know! I'll have a look for ideas, but tbh I'm skipping this edition

Wow! These are some awesome suggestions! The only problem with a thread like this is that you then have to go back to boring-old-reality and realize that none of these things are going to happen...

Still: keep em coming! Loving it so far!

* Tau getting the alien races that their empire includes and not just more stupid looking suits....

* An actual Inquisiton and Imperial Agents Codex

* Guard including all the options they used to have and which make them by far the most diverse imperial faction (in lore) - so cavalry, beasts, heavy carapace armour, laser reflective armour, mesh armour, primitive steampunk power armour, las fusils, primative with close combat weapons, combat stims, stealth troops, aircav, recon vehicles....and all the rest.

* Knights getting all the support and combined arms options from the Andy Carke novels - so dedicated infantry, techs, superheavy repair and C3 vehicles, aircraft,

* Mechanicus getting all the lovely 30k models

* Chaos getting the Blood Pact etc

* GSC getting non human hybrids, Limos and option to worship the Chaos Gods again

* Orks getting GSC "Oddladz", Tinboyz (primative robots that look like Marines, Eldar or Squats)

All / any of those would make me ahppy

Not gonna lie, Mr. Morden, those are some amazing suggestions!

I think if even a few of those were implemented my wife would want to hunt you down and kill you because I would end up spending all our money on new models :-)

I know about that one, I want simple effects of a lesser magnitude. +2 M aura for junior commanders, +1 to hit aura for Tank- and Company Commanders.
