Anyone create your own scenarios?
I don't get a chance to play regular sized 40k games anymore and the games I do play are with my son.
Since he's far more into video games, he is rarely interested in more than 1000k points.

So I'm constantly trying to figure out super fast games that will keep his interest and uses the Core 40k rules we are both familiar with (so Kill Team or any other Specialist game is a no-no since it's basically learning a whole new game)

I'm currently wanting ideas for a Space Hulk style game in which a single 5-6 man unit, or 2-3 Characters acting as a unit have to make it to the end of a 2'x4' table with lots of LOS blocking terrain to boss-fight a Broodlord/Patriarch.
On the way there will be 5 tokens spread around the table secretly numbered 1-5 (number is on the underside). Up to 2 tokens can be moved 6" in the opponent turn to represent lurking Genestealers.
If at any point in either player turn, a token and main unit are within 12", the token is flipped and that number of GSs is placed within 3" of the token and outside 9" of the main unit.

No more than 1 GS unit can be "revealed" at one time (cuz that's all the models we have and don't want the main unit overwhelmed BEFORE they get to the Boss fight), but all tokens "recycle" and can enter any board edge in their next turn.

Oh, and there won't be CPs or strats for this to keep it simple. And the unit can Overwatch on 5+. Only 1 "flamer" weapon is allowed to Overwatch if the unit has multiple (cramped corridors)

What do you think? Any suggestions?

The Deathwatch/GSC boardgame has a lot of different scenarios. One of them forces three to four marines to run like hell from location A to location B because the board behind them is destroyed in regular intervals by some environmental hazard (maybe hivequake but I may be wrong here). During their flight they have to fight off the GSC of course. LOL!

Honestly vanilla Space Hulk rules won´t cut it. Why? Terminators have it really hard except for those missions when a librarian is around. Therefore I recommend the above game. Marines have two wounds and won´t die as a result immediately, if they lose a wound for any reason. In addition most of the GSC trash mobs suck so that the marines can truly shine.

Thanx for the feedback. So far I have 3 "good guy" units in mind for this:

Halo Master Chief + Red vs Blue Spartan marines:
-2 LTs and 1 Captain (ran as a single unit)
Power Rangers:
-6 Eldar Harlequins with various weapons
Ninja Turtle Marines (with Splinter)
-5 Assault Intercessors

Halo Master Chief?! LOL! Actually you are looking for a VASTLY different game. But fear not I have you covered on this as well.

What am I talking about? The NEW Doom boardgame (released a couple of years ago). I know it may sound strange but it plays EXACTLY like the new video game: Fast paced action in which the Doom guys (yes, multiple people can play this) shred the demons to bits in high-octane action. Take a look at the youtube gameplay videos and see for yourself.

I really enjoy turning 40k models into crossover stuff, so the Genestealers in this mini-game will be modeled as Xenomorphs and here are the Spartan Marines:
Spoiler:

I think I'm hashing out a decent scenario and will post it once I'm close.
The goal is to be able to use the same 5 GS models over and over as the Protagonist team makes their way to the boss fight at the other end of the table.

Inspired by Space Hulk, but using 40k Core ruleset and unit datasheet. Also kinda feel like a video game.

Very cool! Run the gauntlet style. World be interesting tho try different combinations of characters and models from different factions at same point levels against a standard gauntlet. Great work!

May I suggest looking at the Space Marine Adventures games for scenario ideas - Doomsday Countdown, Rise of the Necrons and rise of the Orcs? I am using their setups and the 3rd ed Space Hulk tiles - and they are most fun!

Goonhammer have a great set of Zone Mortalis rules that would be ideal for you, OP. I wrote a little update for them for 9th and a cheat sheet for easy red. Can send you them if you like! I ran loads of ZM games with 500-1000 pt forces and normal 40K rules this way over last few years.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"
