An interesting day to launch a new faction don’t you think? However it’s also not a good joke.

Here's hoping it's real, but I'm not holding my breath.

They did go to a lot of time and effort to put this together if it is just a joke, and there was a rumour about it a while back, so who knows?

My guess is that this is a real announcement, but what they're actually releasing is one Squat as a character pack for Blackstone Fortress.

Just a joke (Aprilscherz).
When were squats last seen in 40k universe?

their homeworld has been stuck in the warp for a while now (i think with a loyalist primarch on it too).

AND the rumors that predicted Sisters/BT/Eldar all had squats coming back in them

They did get models for the GW side games, like necromunda and I think I saw a techmarine White Dwarf limited edition model too, although I don't know how old that model was, as the one I saw was a recast.

I forget about the techmarine Grombrindall- that was a killer model. And it was during 8th edition, but I don't remember the year. In hindsight, that model might have been a proof of concept/ prototyping exercise- if the new squat range looks like that, I'd be pretty happy about it.

Actually, just did a search: 2020. Here it is:

The last catalog listing of squats as a unit/army is the 1993 US 40K B. So, as far as I can tell there have been no new units of squats released since 1993.

It is an April fools. But just because it was a joke, it doesn't mean they aren't planning something. GW like to have their cake and eat it.

Of course, we already have modern Squats in the setting with the Necromunda release. But I really can't see Squats as an army this decade (never say never). Another model though? Blackstone, Necro, or even Kill Team? Sure, maybe.

I could also see them include a unit of Squats in the guard codex alongside Ogryns and (or maybe instead of) Ratlings

Certainly if there was a Kill Team, yeah.

It was real!!! Oh yeah buddy and that mini looks so cool, setting a good bar for future squat models.

Ironically it will take me 2 years to finish my CSM, necron and DA armies before I can move onto the leagues of votan

Anyone wanna take a guess at their stat line?

I'm gonna say a mix of Tau and Custodes the way 9th has been going. M7 WS/BS2+, S4 T5 W3 3+5++6+++, with railgun Bolters, that are 36" Assault 4 with heavy bolts for AP3 d2, and regular bolts for AP1 d1. Melee will be a Vorpal Sword for S:user, AP2 d2 "ignores Invuln". This model will cost 23 points, be a troop, and have fly. A box of 3 will cost 96 dollars.

With ideas like that, you can expect a call from GW soon to either work on the rules design team or the board...

When I said the April Fools joke was 100% going to be a Squat Codex in the CSMs thread, I was joking

I wonder how they'll break the game

Well, that gun has some interesting features (particularly the power pack).
Tau kinda got low power plasma weapons, maybe Squats get low-melta as a basic weapon?

I want to see the helmet for this model. That will make or break it for me. This one model is pretty good, but I want to see several in full kit before I get lured in.

So remember that lore-wise, Squats were some of the most technologically advanced races in the galaxy. Even by Tau standards. They basically invented a lot of the common stuff used today. I wouldn't be surprised to see GW give them plasma or melta options standard.

A serious guess: M4" WS4+ BS3+ S3 T4 W1 and either 4+ or 3+ save.
While packing serious firepower.
