Short and sweet. I'll be keeping an irregular journal of my forays in painting and general mini wargaming hobby stuff here.

If you want to contact me for a commission, pm me here, or email me at swarmlordhobby@gmail.com. My work is high quality AND faster than most painting commissions out there, so you won't be waiting months to get your models back. You'll wait a few days!

A few friends of mine wanted to play an 8k team game of 40k (four players, 2k points per player, 4k points per team).

Space Wolves and Ultra Marines versus Tyranids and Sisters of Battle.

I wanted to give an all Genestealers army a go before they become Elite in the 9th edition codex. A sort of send off to an army I wouldn't be able top play in matched game anymore.

I was asked to play on Wednesday the 30th, and had four days to finish my force for my game on Sunday the 3rd.

This is my journey....

WEDNESDAY

I only had 100 Genestealers, and I had to get 20 more to fill out my troop slots. I bought 20 from a friend, and had to strip them.

The arms had to be fixed, so I clipped them off and cleaned them up before moving arms from by bitz collection onto the stealers.

With 20 new stealers added to my collection, I now had 120 of them. Some not pictured here.

With some Bone Primer from Army Painter, I base coated the Stealers the main color of their skin as a Primer. Two birds, one stone.

As night overtook the day, I air brushed purple onto the chitinous areas.

I cleaned up the transitions between Bone skin and Purple armor.

THURSDAY

I washed the Bone skin with Red Tone from Army Painter

I ran a Dark Wash over the Purple Armor, and then made a Dry Brush pass of Purple on the darker armor

Their claws now got a Red Dry Brush.

Another Dry Bush pass, this time with a Pink to highlight the armor

FRIDAY

This was the most time consuming step - carefully detailing each Genestealer's fleshy bits with Red Tone. You can see their fleshy parts here.

All their tongues got a Pink coat.

Blurry Picture. All the Terminator bits got painted up. Contrast and Speed Paints used, with a White Dry Brush afterwards.

All the other colorful bits got painted, such as wires.

SATURDAY

The Bases I ordered through Amazon on Wednesday came in the mail. I cut all the mixed size bases off of the Stealers and based them all back on 32 mm bases.

I then spent hours painting each base a simple grey to fit their Space Hulk aesthetic. Two coats on each base.

SUNDAY

The 120 Genestealers and 3 Broodlords were under the control of an Inquisitor using a Slave Device. She was experimenting with controlling the Hive Mind. Ultra Marines and Space Wolves learned of this Heresy, so they made planetfall and assaulted the Inquisitor's base. The Inquisitor called her Sister of Battle allies to protect her experiments from the invading Space Marines...

When the battle was over, the Inquisitor, along with her Sisters of Battle and Genestealer Army defeated the Space Marines and sent them off world in retreat.

The Inquisitor knew the work she was doing would aid the Imperium, and would do anything to keep her research viable. This was a small victory, as she knew more Imperial Forces would attempt to destroy her and her research. She now plans to relocate her research to another world, away from the ignorant, prying eyes of the Astartes.

60 Genestealers were deployed (20+ off the camera to the left)

All 60 Genestealers which were deployed. Picture credit to Tatted-Face.

60 more Genestealers waited within their underground Tyranid networks, in reserve. (Even on a 9x4 table, I couldn't fit all my stealers in the deployment zone comfortably, so I put half the force in reserve to alleviate that)

The Genestealers were able to close a Flank on the Astartes interlopers, which eventually caused them to retreat from battle, and leave the planet... For now...

Which pictures/models are you referring to? I'd love to let you know how I get particular projects done/techniques used.

I am now currently working on my other 60 gargoyles, 19 Sky Slasher Swarms, 2nd Winged Tyrant and 2nd Harpy.

Pictured here is my last batch of Gargoyles and Sky Slashers. I took this picture earlier today. The 120 Gargoyles are done. Working on basing my Sky Slashers, which is a HAAAUUUUUGGGEEE pain in the butt.

You have a really smooth purple gradient on the carapace, I would love to know your technique for doing that so quickly!

My local store has terrain that reaches up to the highest sky scraper! Most of it, though, is in disrepair due to decades of use and abuse (people typically don't take care of property they don't own).

I was getting tired of playing on ugly terrain, so I am selfishly fixing and repainting the terrain. I want to play on beautiful tables that compliment my beautiful Tyranid army.

I have roughly four 6x4 tables worth of terrain in my garage. I started to sort and glue and fix the terrain today. I'd speed paint this stuff today, but, I have my online Dungeons and Dragons game to run tonight... So there goes 4 hours!

I plan on having this terrain done tomorrow (monday) evening.

Also... I will be making online battle reports on my store's Youtube channel in the coming weeks/months (time not planned yet)... I can't have bad looking terrain for my reports

Terrain before it was fixed bellow.

1) Air Brushed a Purple base (Some were Vallejo Air Purple and some were Army Painter Air Alien Purple. Same color.)
2) Dry brushed Army Painter Skeleton Bone on the edges
3) Layered/Painted Brood Mother Purple in the recesses.

That's it.

This is a commission for someone who wanted me to match a paint job of an old photo of this model.

This was my process

1. Here is the model stripped and a base I'm going to make

2. Army Painter Matte Black Primer and Army Painter Goblin Green Primer

3. Army Painter True Copper for base and Army Painter Greedy Gold Air for highlights

4. Army Painter Plate Mail metal Air for chains and some bits

5. Army Painter Encarmine Red Air layered a few times on each spot to build up the red. After the first layer, I would add water to the paint to glaze

6. Army Painter Pure Red Air was mixed with water was glazed. Then, I glazed Encarmine Red Air with water to smooth the transition. It was here I realized I was doing a two hour commission, and I was falling into the trap of "making everything look good/take too long" on certain spots! So I stopped and moved on.... Glazing can be hypnotic!

7. Used Army Painter grass flock for the base. And he was done!

I finished the terrain for my local store, Dawgs of War Gaming.

Overall, it took me about 20 hours to restore and finish this terrain set. This wasn't a speed paint project, so, I did it a little at a time.

What I'm starting with. Some models are assembled, and most need assembly

After two hours, I got all the bits I needed off of the sprues, and made sure I have the right amount of stuff for each model.

All the models have been assembled, and every bit the customer asked for has been magnetized... Which was a lot of bitz!

I have spent roughly 5 hours on this Commission so far.

I just bought a box of Deathwing knights, awesome set. Toying with the idea of magnetizing them to have as much options as possible, was it too hard for you? Have you only magnetized the arms or also the front part of the torso to be able to change it from Knight to regular Termi?

Also known as KeiserS! muette is my old name.

Only the arms.

I use an electric drill, so making the holes is quick. Don't do this by hand.

1) Drill two holes in the torso-arm-location and then the two arms
2) Put some glue in the hole, shove two magnets into the two torso holes, then spray the holes with Accelerator
3) Put two new magnets on the torso magnets
4) Drip glue on the surface of the new magnets
5) Spray both arms with Accelerator
6) Shove the arms onto the new magnets
7) Wait 5 seconds then remove both arms

The secret is to put the glue on the surface of the new magnets and spraying Accelerator on the arm holes

This first model now serves as the BASE model for all future magnets.

So when I do a second model, I place the torso magnets ON THE arms of the FIRST model, put glue on the new magnet surface and spray the second torso with Accelerator. If you use the first model as the base model for magnet facing, you'll never have reverse facing magnets for your deathwing.

I have a narrative game in a week (this sunday I think) where a few players will be reenacting the Devastation of Baal, where it will be 3k of Blood Angels and Tyranids.

I have a week to get 160 gaunts and three tervigons done.

Let's see if I can do this... I'll update this project each evening.

Right now I am gluing all my gaunts together.... Fun times!

The army list is for reference. I have no decided on any upgrades, Hive Fleet, choices, etc... yet.

Day two... I had a rough day today. That means I wasn't able to handle/control my adhd properly. I didn't get much done.

I was able to cobble together a bunch of spinefist gaunts and 30 hormaguants.

Tomorrow I plan on putting together 70something gaunts!

Question on the Deathwing, BuFFo - you mentioned undercoating with Wraithbone and applying Skeleton Horde Contrast for the armour.

Did you leave them there for the main armour panels, or did you feel like you needed to do anything else to them?

I applied Dry brushing of Wraithbone to armor parts here and there, depending on each model and how I saw the color contrast.

For example, here on the green robed guys and the termies in the back, right above their heads you can see the air brushed Skeleton Horde wash and behind that you can see where I dry brushed Wraithbone.

Some serious batch building and painting going off here! The Deathwing are really impressive! I assume 24hrs is the cumulative session time rather than a single sitting, not that that’s any less impressive! Good luck smashing out the gaunts, I guess contrast will be your friend on these.

After 7 days of assembling and painting, two games, and a week of procrastinating this update, I have an update on my all gaunt list.

3x Tervigons
60x Hormagaunts
90x Flesh Borer Termagaunts
30x Spinefist Termagaunts
30x Devourer Termagaunts

Here is the narrative game, Devastation of Baal, where I took a 1500 Hydra Gaunt list along side another Tyranid player with 1500 points of monsters against two opponents playing Blood Angels defending their Fortress Monastery. Blood Angels won our custom scenario!

Here is another game I played against a Death Guard player. So many bodies!!!!!

I still have plenty of detailing to do.

Next I will be working on 15 Carnifexes in 6 days!

Day two of "15 Carnifexes in 6 days"

So, on top of getting 15 carnifexes done in 6 days, I am now also working on two sets of Chalnath terrain for my local store's Kill Team league...

And... when I got home today, my friend surprised me with "Want to play in my dungeons and dragons game RIGHT NOW?"

I said yes, and 3 hours flew by...

I'm basically one day behind on my Carnifexes now, and with terrain to assemble and paint...

Fun times!
