I ran into issues homebrewing and realized I need expert opinion (Iron Warriors)
Hello. Recently I took a 2 month break to let my passion rekindle for the hobby and let negative news about GW die down while I let my interest in homebrewing my Iron Warriors 94th Grand Battallion Iron Shrikes marinade itself.
GW recently decided raptor lords aren't a thing, which changes the main warlords character quite a bit. He was going to be a lord with a raptor pack on the tabletop. Now I'm not sure if he should be a sorcerer or lord in termie armor, or something novel.
The Iron Shrikes were designed around being a resourceful group of warriors of the IVth legion who made sure to replenish lost numbers. Time surely saw them corrupted by chaos, with Khorne and Slaanesh influences running rampant from the beginning of the heresy's aftermath. How would you decide their fortress/home base? Is Medrengard suitable or just deathtrap stuck in some weird glitchy warp timeloop of different warbands of the IVth fighting each other?
Originally the Iron Shrikes were an aviation and speed heavy battallion of the IVth. Warp talons, raptors, heldrakes and other airborn squads would be present in quantities, but most Heldrakes are assumed to have flown off on their own agenda possibly existing as their own warband somewhere in the eye. In periods of moderate combat / incursion activity, the Shrikes maintain anywhere from 15-3000 astartes, mainly assembled from different origins within the IVth legion, be it vassals traded in Huron's Tournament of Skulls, broken warband remnants assimilated on medrengard, a couple rogue apothecaries supplying enhanced cybernetic and drug related augments producing berzerkers, or just plain old veterans that got lucky and have been with the 94th Grand Battallion since the beginning.
A warband of extremely loyal and humble plague marine Iron Warriors who were discovered in the eye maintaining their own disease ridden hold onto immeasurable stores of nuclear, chemical and biological warfare agents as well as daemon engines nobody else wants to be in the vicinity of.
Let me know your thoughts. I'm also curious how people transcribe tabletop battles to their own written record of in-Universe lore, something I want to employ as a device as well as expanding the history and relations to factions they face against on the tabletop, such as losing recently at the hands of Black Legion by a small margin and perhaps being reluctantly consigned to some war on Abaddon's behalf.
