Journal Tactica: The Forges of Saturn

This is a must-read supplement for every fan of the lore of The Horus Heresy – and that’s all before we get to the rules content: three asymmetrical Onslaught Missions, two new Legiones Astartes Detachments, and new profiles for a Saturnine Command Squad, a Centurion in Saturnine Armour and, for the Word Bearers, the Phraetus Anointed Conclave (see below). There is also an Arcana Upgrade for a Thousand Sons unit clad in Saturnine Armour.

Yeah dude that's proving the point more.

That's three missions, two generic units (which absolutely should have been in the Liber), and two Legion units.

Siege of Cthonia had 5 core missions, 2 Apex missions, Zone Mortalis rules (which included a further 3 core and 2 Apex missions), a campaign system, additional rules, wargear and units for Fists and SoH, the Daemon/Assassin hybrid, Inductii rules for the Legions, and the Decurion Consul for the same cost as two journals. So 6x the missions, 2x the units and a campaign system.

I agree with you completely. The value of these products is slim to none for me.

Not that I expected much more after the box that just came out but I was still hoping for some bikers. Lets see how long they will take, especially if they now start to re-do the "old" termis instead.

I at least expected to see the other models they teased last time.

MKII Assault Squad
The latest plastic kit to arrive is this stunning new Assault Squad in MkII Crusade armour.
Spoiler:

The Legiones Astartes MkII Assault Squad includes 10 multi-part plastic miniatures, all clad in iconic Crusade Armour. As you can see, this has been updated with an even more durable chestplate and gorget, as befits its use for frontline assaulters.

Every Space Marine can be equipped with a chainaxe and bolt pistol, while the kit also includes optional combat shields which can be swapped out for the pistols. On top of that, there are two each of the following weapons: power mauls, heavy chainaxes, volkite serpenta, disintegrator pistols and melta bombs, along with a variety of other grenades, holsters and pouches.

You’ll find the rules for the Legiones Astartes Assault Squad in the Liber Astartes and Liber Hereticus books, where you’ll find that the chainaxes are a points-free alternative to the classic chainsword loadout you might have seen elsewhere.

Journal Tactica: The Forges of Saturn
The second in the new series of Journals Tactica for the Horus Heresy is entitled The Forges of Saturn. It tells how the Primarch Vulkan was instrumental in the reintroduction of formidable Saturnine-pattern Terminator armour to the Legions, and how it would shape the face of battle during the Horus Heresy.

The book is brimming with the lore behind some as-yet unexplored events in the Horus Heresy: the Saturnine Renewal, the War of Bitter Iron between the Word Bearers and Iron Hands, and the Kolarne-Distal incident in which the White Scars and Thousand Sons turned on each other.

This is just the start for the new edition of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness.

Saturnine stills from the preview.

I was hoping to see something other than more bloody Saturnine - as awesome as they are. Never mind.

Yeah, the journals are coming across as exactly the ugly cash grabs I thought they'd be.

The MkII Assault Marines are nice, but I'm not the biggest MkII fan personally. Hopefully the breachers aren't too far away.

Im not really mad about the journals. I like the format. Lets be real, we either get a journal every couple months with new content to keep things fresh or we get one book a year. The book might be slightly cheaper vs spreading the same content over 4+ journals, but sometimes the wait between books is too lengthy.

the problem isn't necessarily the format, but its content
because needing to buy an additional book because you want to paint your core box models with a specific colour isn't what people expected

I see why GW rather makes books everyone needs to buy instead of books for just one faction, but you already pay 55€ on top of the core box to play the game and now you pay again for another book before you started to play the core box.

The word bearers possessed saturnine highlight the real issue for me. Converted units go in the journals. They did a headswap.

Gtfo with that, either put some effort into the conversion to make it a genuinely impossible to do with paint scheme alone, or give it away for free.

It's not even a headswap, it's a paint job. No scrolls, no defiled eagle, no spikes or daemonic growths.

No no guys - it makes total sense that if you get possessed in anything but giganto-pauldron armour you sprout a load of tentacles and random spikes from every orifice, but the new armour is so special that that doesn't happen.

Or since the armor is already psyker attuned, it binds them better- compare the defiler to the soul grinder for bound vs unbound Daemons.

No, no... see, the armor is so huge that there's actually room for the growths and mutations, so they don't need to protrude from the armor.

So guys, what were your foreign languages back at school?

The Libers will be available in English, French and German, while the Journals will be available in English, with the rules portions available to download for free in French and German.

Latin (super useful ), Spanish (Puerto Rican girls were a thing), 1 Semester of German (because I thought it would be easy) and I tried to learn French on my own to impress a girl.

Total languages I can speak fluently: 1. American English.

Bad English (is hillbilly/white trash a language?), the German I've learned from Rammstien lyrics, and the Spanish I've learned from Latino friends.
