Back to 40k with a friend(both played when the game launched). Fought a few games against his Tau....using my Astra Militarum (yes I know it was a losing battle..but still enjoy it lot)...but now its time to swap to my eldar for a change and for more fun(I love Eldar and also maybe a chance of a win too).

Would like opinions and tactics to use with this lot

1x Autarch
1x Skyrunner Farseer

2x Guardians
1x Scouts

2x Wraithseers (Brightlances)

Was going with 1 x Wave Serpent +5 Wraithblades......but I cant work out how to get the WS close enough....coz it will get shot to hell waiting till the next turn to disembark them wont it? I know a falcon can do a Cloudstrike...but not the WS. Wondered if a Falcon dropping in Fire Dragons was better than Wave Serpent & Wraithblades? Or even maybe Avengers in the Falcon?

I have loads of other stuff to swap in but its only 1175 points.

I could swap in-

All other Aspects (in 5s atm) cept Scorpions (and Avengers isunits of 10)
Falcon
Walkers
Avatar
Scout Jet Bikes
Farseesr/warlocks
Wraithknight
Morgaun Rau (spelling)

any advice appreciated. Its only a friendly game at the end of the day, fun is the main goal...but I am interested in any input...a win might be nice...and was precious little chance of that with the Guard.....still loved playing them though ;].

I would run wraiths in a wave serpent. As you said the wave serpent will likely get blasted and then the wraithguard will be shot up and charged and slaughtered.

You’re better off maybe having a 10 man unit quickened up the table with some buffing psychic powers cast on them to boost resiliency but even then that’s a huge amount of points and psychic powers and stuff invested in getting one unit up the board
And into action

I think your more flexible and effective options is falcons with dire avengers. You can do the custom craftwork trait webway warriors so when they come out of reserves they get exploding 6’s for extra hits. falcons hit pretty hard and being able to drop a bunch of dudes in anywhere almost and open fire turn 1 is nice. Keeps them off table and protected.

Fire dragons are a lot of points and not very tough. They tend to shoot one time then get focused dead immediately after. The war walkers are really good as well points for performance.

thanks for the input.

Can I check....did you mean 'wouldnt' use a Wave Serpent?

Also...what do you actually target with the dire avengers which disembark and shoot?

Struggling to work out how to fight the Tau. Cant stand and fight them at range (it seems to me) but I cant really work out how to cause enough damage up close either heh.
Ive sene a few people suggest it...but unless im missing something, as you touched on....surely when it moves up table...and units dismebark...they are going to get shot up by my Tau friends units?

You could use the wave serpent as a bullet magnet I suppose and try to move some units up the table with them. Worst case scenario they are forced to dump a massive amount of firepower at it. The Wave serpent has a 5+ invuln and also all wound rolls of 1-3 are nullified. Maybe throw 5 wraithguard with shields in a wave serpent and run it up the table. This is a sacrificial lamb. It forces him to waste a ton of shooting at it (also use lighting fast reactions for 1 CP to give -1 to hit maybe).

Expect the wave serpent to die but hopefully it moves those wraithguard up close enough to charge and tie things up in close combat. It is a significant point investment but it is tough to kill and will either capture some objective for scoring or distract him from shooting other units.

Always try to play the game for points. Target objective secured units. Or fast threats that can negate your superior Eldar mobility.
