after reading the replies i was thinking the same thing FrozenDwarf.
i suppose i was thinking more like ogre or troll, something that can doll out more than 1 damage reliable.

I have dropped completely out of AoS, so my knowlage stops around 20 and idk if my suggestion is vaible today, but could you not ally in a unit of Morghast Archai?

I mean I really don’t think Nighthaunt need more punch to be perfectly honest. Run Scarlett Doom Bladegheists or Quicksilver Dead Harridans and watch everything in their path melt and do absolutely nothing to them in return. But thematically it would be cool, not too sure why the Mourngul was squatted to legends, although I do feel it never really fitted with the ghost theme all that well

Probably because most of the FW model line has been removed.

1) How do you figure it doesn't fit the ghost theme?
The model is literally a legless spirit.

2) This unit is neither squatted nor found in Legends.
The model is currently sold by FW & it's rules are free.

I believe you can't use it in matched play?
Anyways, it's my understanding that the Mourngul is essentially the whammer version of the Wendigo which isn't really a ghost. It's just a really hungry dude who turned to cannibalism and became a monster right?

It has turned into a 'hungry ghost'; a spin on the wendigo myth not a direct representation.

Something NH need with their existing roster is diversification of warscrolls. Reapers, Bladegeists, Harridans all perform the same role on the battlefield and don't even do it all that differently.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

One problem is that AoS hasn't got as many niches as 40K seems to have. This creates a simpler situation (heck optional unit weapons now have the same profiles for most troops) but it also means that the number of slots a unit can fit into and specialise or generalise in are much more restricted.

Heck the rules don't even draw a line between infantry and cavalry as "things" and yet in most games being cavalry comes with a bunch of changes beyond being faster.

You can.

Now there might well be tourneys or local misconceptions that work against you....
But that's not a rules problem from GW.

Yet other armies have had no trouble diversifying the function of similar unit types. Fyreslayers come to mind with even multiple different weapon options on the same model having distinct enough rules to give them identity.

Prior to this season I would've disagreed with you. For now, there really isn't much difference between the role these three units play.

It wasn't squatted. It's 100% legal as per gw own rules on what's valid.

You have legends list available for free. Check yourself if you don't believe.

Just because rules are in expansion covering fw units doesn't mean it's legends. Legends is specfic document unit available from gw. Nothing outside that is legends.

Ah yes my mistake. Wahpedia uses a very similar icon to denote legends and the Monstrous Arcanum compendium. The majority of tournaments don’t seem to allow it though
