How do!

So here’s a thread informed by my earlier one, where we attempted to count the number of kits (brand new and redo) released during 9th Ed. Whilst not entirely accurate, it clocked in at around 120 kits across the now 20 or so Factions (not including specific Marine Chapters).

Split evenly? That could equate to 6 kits per Codex release. And whilst not all armies need 6 new kits, or would even know what to do with them (both flavours of Knights), I want to play a speculative game of “if your army had 6 new kits, what would you want them to be”.

As you might be able to guess, there are no right or wrong answers here, as it’s all a matter of opinion.

Me? As I’m doing my Eldar project, I’d want the remaining Aspect Warriors done in plastic. So that’s…erm…Warp Spiders, Striking Scorpions, Fire Dragons and Swooping Hawks. Am I missing one? I feel like I’m missing one. Just checked, I’m not missing one. So that’s four of my six.

For the remaining two? Any of the yet to be plastificiated Phoenix Lords. If I had to choose? Fuegan and Ahirman, as I think they’ve the dullest poses of the four original ones.

But what about you, Dakka? Six kits. One Army. Your Call.

Chaos marines list for me, it's conservative but drags us out of the 90's and 00's.

For Eldar I’d like to see:
Swooping Hawks +Phoenix Lord
Striking Scorpions +Phoenix Lord
Warp Spiders
And a recut Falcon/Wave Serpent duel kit. Bonus points if they can get the FP/NS in there. Those kits, while fantastic looking, are showing their age technically. Using modern tooling they could get detail a lot sharper, and consolidate the number of boxes on the shelf by bundling them together.

Marines:
Primaris jump assault troops. Preferably light power armor with CC options (primaris assault marines) But a gravis armored hammer squad would also work.
Re-cut box dreadnought. This is probably more likely to show up as a 30k thing, but listing it here. The Ven dread kit is great, but both the ironclad and basic are getting a little long in the tooth.
Primaris captain on bike. Or with some sort of jump pack. Not a fan of the only way to move around is transports or footslogging.
Another chaplain. Either phobos/gravis/jump. You can never have too many.
Suppressor kit. With more options, This are mono-build and locked on a shared sprue. Should have their own box.
Primaris rhino equivalent. I don’t want a gunboat covered with guns, just a way to get a 10 man squad downfield in a mechanized list.

Tyranids:
Plastic Lictors
Bio/Pyrovore duel kit.
New Raveners, with option to build named one.
Shrikes (winged warriors)
New gaunt kit.
Big LoW from FW swapped over to plastic. Not fussed over which one. But we are the giant monster faction, and are being overshadowed a LOT by other armies.

Grim Dark Angels Interrogator-Chaplain

A Protoss colony world

Okay MDG, I'll bite:
Dark Angels (in no particular order):
1: Primaris Azrael. With so many other Chapter Masters crossing the Rubicon Primaris, I wouldn't expect Azrael to balk at the prospect. This would be a great way to phase out the old underscaled metal version.
2: THE LION. We need another Loyalist primarch, and Lion would be probably the most interesting one to bring back because he would be opposed to a lot of what Guilliman is doing.
3: Primaris Ezekiel. Same reasons as Azrael.
4: Some kind of Ravenwing-only Primaris bike unit, could be just Primaris Black Knights or something. I'd like to see Dark Angels get some exclusive Primaris stuff instead of just painting all the standard stuff green/black/bone as appropriate.
5: Some kind of beefy Deathwing Gravis-armored melee unit, like Deathwing Knights. Same reasons as #4 above.
6: Maybe just kind of a cosmetic thing, but robed bodies for Intercessors/Hellblasters, or maybe some kind of new DA veteran unit.

As it is, I'm sure DA will get whatever new generic Primaris Marine units come out in 10th, and they'll get the Ravenwing/Deathwing keywords as appropriate. I wanted to list anything that could be DA exclusive.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2023: 40 | Total models painted in 2024: 12 | Current main painting project: Dark Angels

Changed my mind. Slightly.

All four remaining Aspects are a must. But in place of the Phoenix Lords? Updated Vyper and Falcon/Wave Serpent. As mentioned above there’s the potential to squeeze in the Fireprism and Doomweaver, but I dare say the right design would allow that turret sprue to carry straight on over.

I was about to say “after all it’s still quite modern” by that’s a naughty temporal fib, as it’s 13 years old now! I know this, because it came out when I was temporarily running the Epsom Store (the same event which completely turned my life around, as it happens)

A Chaos Lord, with a jump pack. And full weapons options, including lightning claws, and a combi-weapon with all of the options.

And a new Noise Marine kit for the poor Emperor's Children players!

Codex: Orks
--------------------
1) A generic gretchin HQ choice.
2) a Big Gunz sprue - 3 grot crew, a wheeled chasi, and 3 weapons - lobba, kannon, zaapp gun.
3) The Red Gobbo. Non Christmas version, both mounted on squig & on foot.
4) a 40k version of the squig hoppers box.
5) a gretchin mek character
6) a proper, classic 90s, Greater Gargant

For the Death Guard, I'd like to see Pestigors introduced as new infantry. Also, it would be cool to see a new Mantle of Corruption lord, like that of flux or parasitism.

For CSM, a new Chaos Lord with complete options and a jump pack. New Noise Marines models would be great as well, though those will undoubtedly be released with an entire Emperor's Children line. Daemonic mounts, at least for lords, should be brought back. What I would really love to see are weapons and options blister packs to allow for people to take whatever options they want.

For daemons, I'd love to see some daemon troop units with shooting capabilities similar to that of Marines. If not that, then at least another daemon engine or two would be nice. Oh, and Epidemius desperately needs a new model.

I had to look that last one up Fez. Sounds pretty cool. So, I really hope they do make one.....for 30k. For 40k too of course. But in 30k, they could actually give some cool thematic rules that actually kinda represent what it does. Because you know in 40k, they'll just make it do something dreadfully dull, like (X) mortal wounds, or something.

GW will I believe not just release pre existing model updates, they'll always want something knew.

So with that in mind, what I'd like to see for the eldar are:

Exarch shrine ancient HQ beatstick, riffing on the classic Menshad korum and specifically fighting by themselves rather than being a sergeant. Potential for a great range of heroes of the eldar type of models, potentially based on classic eldar exarch artwork.

Striking scorpions + Karandras

Bright Stallion Knight because they are the most interesting and coolest looking knight in 40k

Avengers + Asurmen

6 kits for the new Exodite Faction

Dragon Lord on monster
Dragon Knights
Megasaur heavy support

I've always loved the idea that they held a basically 1 shot "Anti-matter" blaster on their wrist. It's like a black hole generator. On their wrist. I could never figure out a way to accurately model how I wanted it to look. Like a bolt of black lightning shooting out of it or something.

Hmmm. The description that I read says that it fires glass canisters of anti- matter. So, I was thinking it would be something like a disintegrator, but Blast. So it could erase several things from existence, instead of just one.

For Guard:

1) Light Infantry kit (can make Tallarn, Catachan, and Tanith)
2) Tunic Infantry kit (can make Cadian, Mordian, and Praetorian)
3) Greatcoat Infantry kit (can make Valhallan, Steel Legion, and Vostroyan)
4) Plastic Tauros kit with a Venator upgrade sprue (or an equivalent armored car unit)
5) Some kind of medium tank (think Carnodon, but not 128 USD and with a little more creativity than "lol not!Predator" when it comes to options. Oh, and squadronable.)
6) Ummm...maybe a barebones transport unit (ie. a jeep or deuce-and-a-half - no paying for extra armor or big guns, just transport slots, M12"-14", open-topped, and maybe a pintle heavy stubber or two).

Meme option - Kanak Skull-Taker kit as part of a new feudal/barbarian Guard push to complement the rumoured new Rough Rider kits.

Assuming that these six kits can be either upgrades of old finecast or new material, here is my list for all of the armies I play:

SoB:
Uriah Jacobus
Confessor Kyrinov
Generic kit that can build a variety of either Missionaries or Preachers
Kill Team: Battle Conclave (DCA's + Crusaders.. Maybe a special Arco or two, but they've got a box)
An aircraft
Bike unit

Drukhari
Mandrakes
Grotesques
Urien Rakarth
Court of the Archon Kill Team
Beast box (Including a beast master and beasts)
Asdrubael Vect
*Note: I also want the DE to get some extra kits from armies who can't come up with six, because they also need Sliscuss, Sathonyx and Kheradruak

Eldar:
Generic Corsair HQ
Warp Spiders
Warp Spider Phoenix Lord
Asurmen
Scorpions
Swooping Hawks
*Note: I want Eldar to get extra kits from armies who can't come up with six, because they also need Baharoth, Karandras, Fire Dragons, Fuegan

CSM:
Okay, so this one is weird, because IF there is a full EC release, I wouldn't need to burn CSM choices on EC models. If they DON'T make EC, then minimally, Noise Marines, Noise Marine Lord and Noise Dread have to take up CSM spots similarly, Oblits are rumoured to be in the WE dex, but if not, they need a CSM kit.
Bikes
Generic jump Lord with claws
Aircraft
Huron Blackheart

Well damn! Penitentjake just made me regret this thread. Kind of!

As they said, not every army can put six new kits to good use. Ref Imperial and Chaos Knights. Not to say “no kits for you” just….it’s hard to think of 6 kits to give them, outside of Infantry Bondsmen type tnings, which fundamentally changed the feel of the army.

Maybe I should’ve made this as “Bid for Kits” type thing.

In fact, sod it. Let’s do that.

Even it out to 6 Kits - but, you can make your argument for More - but you have to “cost” that bid by suggesting whose allocation they should come from.

Hopefully that doesn’t turn this thread spicy, as I believe the kids rap on the street these days when they’re getting down with the man.

But if people can enter into the right spirit, it might add to the overall conversation, and potentially uncover consensus.

Thanks, Penitentjake!

This is an interesting idea, I think a "looted vehicle" kit that consists of just orky bits to slap on another factions vehicle is great idea!

To keep the rules simple, just make the looted vehicle copy the datasheet of the vehicle it's replicating but all weapons become assault, BS5, ramshackle, variable speed (depending if it's red!)

For me all I want is Plastic Jokero/daemonhost/and/or a "inquisitor retiniue" box to make Inquisitor acolytes, and then a retool of the upcoming Karsking to make Inquisitorial Storm Troopers.

Alternatively, A fresh Servitor kit, crusaders, Death-cult assassins, etc. All the little imperium units everyone can use. Fresh FB techmarine too, seeing as they're al resin, and come with either 4 servitors or the Thunderfire cannon.

I'd love to see some Jump-Pack assault marines for Primaris, and more Primaris characters which are not footslogging (anything really).

Beyond that, I'd love to see Primaris Wulfin or Thunderwolf Calvary. But, that's very unliekly to happen for a long time. Just like I'd love to see a Wolfspear character.

Necron Pariahs, cheaper Flayed Ones, a Lord/Overlord box with all options, and I'd be happy with that.

‘What Lorgar’s fanatics have not seen is that these gods are nothing compared to the power and the majesty of the Machine-God. Already, members of our growing cult are using the grace of the Omnissiah – the true Omnissiah, not Terra’s false prophet – to harness the might of the warp. Geller fields, warp missiles, void shields, all these things you are familiar with. But their underlying principles can be turned to so much more. Through novel exploitations of these technologies we will gain mastery first over the energies of the empyrean, then over the lesser entities, until finally the very gods themselves will bend the knee and recognise the supremacy of the Machine-God"

EZPZ for DE/Drukhari

1) Plastic Mandrakes, Grotesques, Court, Beasts
2) GIVE US BACK A COUPLE CHARACTERS, aka Vect, Baron, etc....
3) Just release Trueborn/Bloodbrides as our vets like they used to be ffs

Court can easily be 1 box of 1 of each model (Lhamaean, Ur-ghul, Sslyth, Medusae). Beasts box you can streamline it, 1 box of 3 Birds, 2 Khymaraes, 1 Clawed, and 1 BM. Heck if they make beasts just 1 unit again like in 3rd/5th I'd be ok with that, while i love the birds, just making it all 1 type would be fine with me at this point if we can get real support for them and able to have a horde beasts pact again that can be fun and buffed.

Marines
Upscale all the Firstborn stuff, particularly Termies. Don't make it "primaris", just sort the scaling out to match the new CSM/HH kits.

Orks
+ Weirdboy
+ more weapon options for Warbosses (mega-armour or otherwise)
+ Tankbustas
+ re-do the Lootas and Burnas, cos that kit's terrible
+ some sort of Lieutenant-analogue smaller-than-a-Warboss boss (and bring back mixed-clan warbands)

Necrons
+ New Immortals that look less rubbish next to the newer stuff
+ Flayed Ones kit that doesn't suck
+ New Lokhust Destroyers, or a more varied LHD kit

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And yeah, absolutely sort out the Aspect Warrior backlog.

the problem with keeping the original model would be its been balanced and pointed for that army with thier BS, faction and sub faction traits. opening up the every single model could lead to some unintended wierd stuff, I think just 3 datasheets covering looted vehicles and kits including the weapons options for said datasheets grafting on to various models would be easier to make the entry not either useless or OP
