So with the recent article on the Warhammer Community page, there is a small bit in the last paragraph to players to enjoy their retro gaming. Added to the attention placed on the older editions and starter sets has me wondering: Is GW about to re-release the older editions? I will admit to see people playing older editions in my local game stores will make me very happy. I can actually see GW doing this via digital on Warhammer+ as well as print-on-demand orders.

Thoughts?

I can't see it, given the amount of effort they've put into removing old rules from Warhammer Vault.

Not happening. All talk of previous editions is pure nostalgia.

I open the inquisitor book on warhammer+ there is like no reason to have gut that book of its rules. But here we are.

I think as beast_gts said, I just don’t see it.

Unless someone at GW management has pushed the other manager who had the books gutted to have the content added again. It's half daft when you consider that Cubical 7 keeps running very successful Humble Bundle campaigns for old game systems whilst still selling current game systems.

It's more likely they'll talk about favoured old models and there might be some "retro print on demand" models for a week or two

They'll treat older editions the way they treated Last Stand At Glazer's Creek when they remade it.

It would be cool if they rereleased all the old edition box sets on a made to order basis, but I doubt it would happen.

All the rules for many and varied editions are still in the White Dwarfs?

No they are still in - I was reading it yesterday to add stuff to the Lex and it had full rules for Blood Angels army list, Grombindal, Gotrek and Bugman etc

Yep. Checked and staring at wd blood angels from wd right away. Whoever said wd had rules removed in vault was saying bogus.

Firstly - I was referring to the rule books & supplements, as the OP was talking about re-releasing old editions. Those have the below disclaimer, and it doesn't make sense for GW to strip out the rules to only put them back later (but this is GW we're talking about).

The Warhammer Vault exists to preserve the rich lore and background of Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar. As such, outdated game scenarios and unit rules have been removed from this publication.

Secondly - I haven't checked every single WD in the Vault (I've only glanced at one or two) but multiple people have claimed rules have been removed. It might be GW have inconsistently removed them, or possible all those people are 'bogus'.

It might simply be that some articles are so mixed up with rules and lore that its hard to separate the two without re-writing it or losing the entire article. It could also just be that whoever is tasked with the job misses bits here and there. Eg they might only be skim reading for rules and when they spot them, remove them; so an article that looks like its lore or story or talking about a battle report; ends up being skipped over.

In the end its a shame GW felt the need to cherry pick the contents like that. It would have cost them less to simply upload the books in whole and simply left them up. I guess one of the bean counter managers was worried free classic rules would make people demand past codex and past rule editions or everyone would stop being the new hotness or something (even though chances are people who come back ot play old rules would be more likely to be tempted into buying new rules too so it would probably have a net increase of sales).

Still the art and lore are at least preserved

nuGW has been cashing in those nostalgia bux for a while now. Why do you think they keep making resculpts of old models or making models to match old art?

Well thank you for pointing that out as I’m sure absolutely nobody else had noticed that a PLC was delving into its own history to make extra sales.

Call me Conspiracy Cat, but I think the rules are removed from old WH Vault rulebooks only because GW wants to keep the option open for reintroducing old editions of the games if they ever decide it would be worthwhile for them to do. And if such reintroductions come, the old edition content will not be made available free of charge, no sirree.

The nostalgia paint job tutorials were just a tie in to the official 35th anniversary celebrations. You will not be seeing any more of them now that the anniversary event has concluded.

I think Warhammer+ would get way more subscribers if they left all that rules content in.
