Title. Saw this claim floating around on social media but found no good sources. Is Yarrick dead, retired or just removed from the codex maybe?

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

I think at this point it’s only on a no good sources yet, until pictures it’s up in the air.

Yeah guess so. You know what would be the funniest thing ever? If GW made Yarrick into an orc avatar. Like make him huge, warboss sized, and ridiculously strong. Have him literally grow in opposition to how ghazkull has grown, fueled by the orks fear of him. It would be way cooler then the golden boy on a horse. Demigod (demiork?) Yarrick in overall command opposing the waaagh prophet. haha

I know it’s not going to happen but one can dream.

Valrak stated that it would be cool if he went out with a bang on Armageddon, fighting against a re-summoned Angron. I think that something like that is the best way for him to go.

"Oh look! It's a commissar! with orky bits on him! And he's SO GOOD that Ghazghkull keeps him alive!"

That they didn't drop him earlier is daft when they felt no compunction ditching so many other interesting characters like Bastonne.

Would be interesting, since Ghaz would be PISSED.

A mighty WAAGGH led by Ghaz himself drops on the shrine planet Yariks skull is entombed. The imperial forces mount a defence. Marine chapters join in, but no one can stop Ghaz and how fast the orks attacked. Ghaz walks in to the temple room, where the skull of Yarik is held, cracks the stasis field and takes the skulls. the room is field with war loot. Imperial, non imperial, even orkish, then a mega armour is sat down on a throne in its middle and the head of Yarrik is mounted in it. And then Ghaz and the orks leave to the total shock of imperials trying to evac.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

Can't say I'm that bothered about Yarrick's fluff or rules. But he's had a cool model for 30 years. The idea he got cut out so Guard could spend more time with the Elector Solar is lame.

Typical case of GW never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

They obviously clear out the finecast characters.
Would the could do is keep Yarrick alive for later.
Imagine an Ork vs guard box with new Armageddon greatcoats.
This would be an absolute banger of a box.
Maybe some new Ork bikes and something fancy for guard.
I would probably get several, even if that means multiple Yarricks.
But i haven't really seen a good vs box in 40k for quite some months ...

A Guardsman's life is to die.

The thing about 40k is that no one person can grasp the fullness of it.

Yarrick already died on Cadia in one of the Apocalypse rulebooks (the first one?). That was just sort of ignored though because it's only canon when GW can be bothered to remember it.

Last we really saw of Yarrick he was going off with the Black Templars to pursue Ghazghull, so it wouldn't make a huge amount of sense for him to end up back on Armageddon.

Apparently it is explicitly stated in the codex, not sure of what reason they give, but I'll just assume he slipped in the tub.

Which does not in any way stop GW from making Yarrick Jr, Mrs Yarrick, ghost Yarrick, the Legion of Yarrick Clones or whatever.

Probably just died of old age. Hundreds of years have passed, and he's only human. But, doesn't explain why sly marbo is still kicking around or the others. They should all be dead by this point in the setting (post gathering storm->indomitus crusade)

Oh that haha. He has died in several battle reports. Just like Mephisto, Guilliman, ghazkull, celestine, Typhus, Abaddon… pretty much every character actually. Battle reports are not considered canon. I think there’s been one or two battle reports that where canon but they are incredibly rare.

To be fair I’d love to see Ghazkull rip Angron apart over this. Also gotta admit it’s great to see some character deaths. Please gw kill of more characters. I think about one per codex and supplement might be fitting. It would be one way to make 40k less silly.

Battle reports aren't lore. If you go through all the old rulebooks and expansions you'd see tons of characters die. If you wanted to add White Dwarf in there as well likely all of them.

He cannot die for the same reason ork tech works.....because they are all latent psykers and if they believe it strong enough it is so...and they believe Yarrick cannot be killed.....so no matter how often he "dies" he will be back like a perpetual.

Why would they kill him off after making a cartoon about him on warhammer plus? LOL

Look, narratively Yarrick is a lot like Mobey Dick with Ghazuskull being the White Whale.

I'm not sure if they ever really kill off big characters in 40K. (I'll admit, I'm still getting used to this new thing where there actually is more of a story)

But if they did...it would make the most sense for Yarrick and Ghazuskull to both die together fighting eachother. (Or maybe just both crushed by a giant falling gargant or something).

It's kind of funny though. I'm an ork player that wants Ghazuskull to have less prominence. I.E. I don't want there to be big ork narrative characters because it detracts from the narrative characters on MY TABLE. I guess you can just throw me in with the angry ork on Shootas Blood and Teef. (Would have been a better game if they made Ghazuskull the bad guy!)

You realise they already killed off all the Tyranid Special characters?
The only one left is the Swarmlord who gets killed every time GW wants to make a hero in another army look really badass powerful. Of course swarmy gets better each time.....

~Oh and Old One Eye is still kicking around, but never really had much of a story save about 2 lines of "old carny that just won't freaking die!"
