Subject: White Dwarf 482 - Sleeved issue with substantial extras. WORTH CHECKING OUT.
Today I get to repeat the good news White Dwarf 482 has a software bundle included, this time for GOG not Steam.
There are some add ons for Warcry, which I will leave others to assess. I am going to talk more about the software bundle.
There are 12 games in total, some gems, some shovelware, some ancient relics.
IMPORTANT NOTE I got my magazine copy today and redeemed the code. It include the games below as advertised and you are free to select just these, and they are free. However there are many other games and items of DLC included at varied discount. The total bill for all not free items is £161.70 and while none of this is required to unlock your offered free games, and some offers may be very much worthwhile, it is a bit much of a surprise..
My problem with this is that while having a one use offer window tab open after redeeming your White Dwarf code you have to make hard decisions about which games to buy, and research those games you do not know. There is the unsettling choice between a potentially very high bill to pay, and the FOMO of rejecting high value discount offers on short notice.
The deals are too good to be predatory, and this is not bait-and-switch, but there is a time pressured hard sell people should be forewarned of while they redeem their software keys.
Also be aware that it is possible to buy some games twice by activating all the options under the code without reviewing them, and I am not talking about games you already have in your GOG library, though you should check for that also.
A new post at the bottom of this page reveals all the new content, though for two games it simply lists 'all DLC' even though every DLC option is itemised seperately. Check the spoiler masked 'bill' for a complete and itemised list of offers.
Warhammer 40000 - Gladius
I highly recommend this game. there is a lot of faction DLC and I do not know if it is bundled with this version. Likely not as the software house is very small, two guys in Germany who bought the licence and did a good job with it, they will need the income. It is worth paying for the DLC but you can find out for yourself if you play. I reckon this title is justifiable for the cost of the White Dwarf on its own, just about. Its an older game and you should get it on discount for about this much.
This is turn based hex based 4X planetary conquest. Think Civilization but without the diplomacy, and peaceful victory options. Graphics are simple as befits the genre but get the job done, factions are characterful.
Edit: You will receive itemised offers for all the DLC for this game. Together it come up to a substantial price, but the core game remains free and the dLC is not required for play, and you can pick and choose without spoiling the game experience.
Battlefleet Gothic - Armada
Now outdated by Armada 2, it is still a good game. If you are into BFG you likely already have this or the sequal, if not you can pick it up here.
Decent narration of the tabletop game in real time, worth playing and again with the White Dwarf on its own at normal discount prices for an older game.
Edit. Armada 2 is included at the offer price of £5.39, so you can obtain both together. The campaign storylines follow on from each other so there is value in playing both.
Dakka Squadron
Shovelware, but may be good for a spin. Last time Titanicus hit that category. Install it, play it for a few hours, uninstall it and move on.
Warhammer - Shadow of the Horned Rat
This is a classic form way back in 1994. I loved this game, this was the first game I played that refused to run on DOS, it had to run on Windows 3. GOG has fixes for all that.
Expect the graphics to be well sub par, though they were pretty for the day. But love it for its brains.
Warhammer Quest II - The End Times
If you had White Dwarf 462 this was included. Not bad for free, I still play it occassionally.
Warhammer 40000 - Chaos Gate
This is the old title from the 90's not the far more modern game.
Warhammer 40000 - Rites of War
Ancient shovelware, but some nostalgia goggles will fit.
Man O War - Corsair
Another game from the 90's but the computer version is more modern, another example of the widely spread IP licensing. I havent played it but know some who have and said it was a good title. I will get to see for myself.
Talisman
Another title on White Dwarf 462. This is not a good game. If you want tom play Tlaisman get the box set and play around a table. If you want to play on a computer play something more involved.
Dark Future
The oldest property on this list. Dark Future came and died in the mid 80's and was preceded by the far superior Battlecars. GW gambled on the Mad Max craze lasting longer than it did. Battlecars was the Lord Humungus, Dark Future was Aunty from Thunderdome.
The game looks shovelware. Still in buying the White Dwarf I get to try it out for a couple of hours, or less if it is dire, then uninstall and forget it existed.
Epic 40000 - Final Liberation
The big 40K licence computer game of the 90's, with cutscenes and characters memorable to this day.
also
my favourite cutscene
Mordheim - City of the Damned
If you don't have this game, go and buy this White Dwarf, then buy another as penance. Install it settle down and lock the door.

Probably worth it for Mordheim alone. I loved that game, though it would give you some rough lessons on how percentages work.
The Darktide article in that White Dwarf is fun too. Some great and easy conversions of characters from the game.

Last time (Issue 462) Gladius was 75% off and the offer was welcome in the thread, now its 100% off.

Chaos Gate has some of the most atmospheric music of any game I've ever seen. I remember we ripped mp3s of all the tracks and played them while playing tabletop 40k.

Chaos Gate is THE game.
All other GW games are a minor footnote.
That said, I always like a bit of a skirmish as Imperial Guard in Soulstorm.

It's a GOG store code, so it will have Dosbox built in. Expect it to run on Win 10.
Boot Camp should have you covered.

And then you only have to pay $40,000 for all the DLC, because it's a Slitherine game.
I bought some DLC and don't recall getting a mortgage. That being said you should shop around, you can get DLC cheap on Cd key stores and for this game should only buy select DLC. I bought the first reinforcement pack, or in all likelihood had it bundled when I bought the main game, as it doesnt look like content I would buy. I did buy the maion faction DLC for Tau and CSM, will get Eldar too when the game gets tired.
My friend and I still quote the "'Tis beauty!" line from Final Lib.
He said "Tears of Beauty" a play on the name of the Titan 'Bringer of Tears'.
Report to the nearest Medicae unit with this sick note.
Sick note reads: If this adept has a hearing deficiency please provide the appropriate medication, if he does not please refer him to the Arbitrators for termination, his hearing reception has been selectively compromised, evidence of high probability of ruinous influence.
Core gameplay was good but there was not enough of it. They began working on the Necromunda license instead.
I wish they hand expanded both frankly, so much potential for expansion, or if necessary concentrated entirely on Mordheim as Necromunda was and remains thin.

No.
I found what looked to be a reasonable quality English language review video of each games. The only decent review of Shadow of the Horned Rat also reviewed Dark Omen
Sorry for the confusion.
Just play Shadow of the Horned Rat, and when you are done buy Dark Omen, it will be on GOG. If not check abandonware sites or ebay. I have orginal disks of both games, and they were both playable from disk install, but required a lot of searching for fan ports to modern OS. GOG will do that all for you for games you buy, with software patched into the install. GOG has good ports of old games and a competent modding team to get them to work.

I LOVED Dark Omen. It was such an enjoyable adventure and truly brought WFB to life. The final battle features a insane sneaky surprise and the way you are handed new allied units over the course of the campaign is amazing. You get to meet the Ice Queen of Kislev and there are even branching story choices.
Important safety tip though: Keep those Elf archers alive at all costs. They are easily your MVP for the entire campaign and without them you're pretty much doomed.
Bonus points if you notice how the game's main battle theme sounds quite similar to some of the music from the movie Gravity.
I'm picking this one up for Commissar Holt, alone.
Classic!!!
At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.
But Chaos Gate and Final Liberation are among my personal favourites. I tend to play through both every couple of years or so (as I have the original discs still), such great games; really scratch that turn based god-awful-random-number-generator itch.

Final Liberation and Chaos Gate are both absolutely superb.
BUT, a caveat. A few years back I fancied replaying them and bought them both from GOG. Couldn't get either of them to work properly. Final Liberation didn't start at all. Chaos Gate let me play around 4 missions and no further before crashing irreparably.
There were various fixes and patches available via the GOG forums, which I tried, and indeed it was those that let me get Chaos Gate up and running at all.
I did get refunds from GOG but you might not be so lucky if buying via the WD.
Of course there might be improved bug fixes since then -- it was a couple of years ago that I last tried.
Some brief notes on the issue.
There are some junk card add ons but nothing substantial like the book of points costs in White Dwarf 462.
The magazine did have an interesting guide on making Darktide characters. This involved the word 'kitbashing', and some extensive converasions, but it means little because White Dwarf has often done what they discouraged the rest of us to do. But it is nice to see conversions still being a thing, in however limited a way.
I might give the mag a read tonight seeing as I have it.
Now for the relevant stuff.
I put in my GOG code and got the following information.
1. Codes are valid until May 19th 2023
2. As expected it is one code for all content.
3. There is a lot more thna advertised. I will text dump it here

You can choose to delete any individual items from the list without prejudice, so if you want only what you can get for free with the magazine you can stick to that. Be careful with the check boxes though, I have not activeated mine but you will only get one shot at what you want..
4. Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2 is on the cover also. At 70% discount for £5.39. This is well worth it, and it would be good to get both games..
5. Necromunda Hired Gun is available at 50% discount. This is another modern game
As you will need to drop £18 on this it will behoove you to watch the reviews before submitting to (or rejecting) a pressure buy.
You can buy a Steam key for about one third the price.
6. CAREFUL HERE We have Space Hulk: Deathwing Enhanced edition included and Space Hulk: Deathwing Enhanced Delux edition with DLC bundled in. Youi only need one of these if at all.
This will cost £6 or £11 or both if you are clumsy. Ok, so the extra is for the soundtrack, which many people think it overrated.
7. Warhammer 40000 Armageddon.
This is an ok hex based turn based wargame, at a modest discount with lots of DLC, but reach only a little bit of content.
I have this game, it is good but nothing special, and it is not recent, you should be able to buy it at deep discount.
8. Warhammer 40000 Battlesector
This is a popular game, but it is only 35% off. I think we can do better than that.
9. Warhammer 40000 Gladius DLC
All the DLC is there but at only modest discount.
H.B.M.C. will not approve.
10. Warhammer 40000 Sanctus Reach
75% off main game and 60%+ off each DLC, but I am not sure as I was not expecting this costing.
11. Warhammer Chaosbane.
80% off. I do not know it.
12. Warhammer Mark of Chaos Gold Edition
This includes the Battle Realms expansion.
I decided to buy Armada 2 and ChaosBane, but the lure of free games has a hidden twist. I cannot call it bait and switch as you can walk away with all the free titles listed for no charge.
But I am baited as I have to make a choice here and now whether I want to accept any of the deals on offer.

Are you kidding? The fact that it includes discounts on the DLC is amazing.
I thought it'd just be the base game for free and a "Figure out the rest on your own, kid!", leaving you with a free game where most of the content is locked away behind a massive paywall.
Including the DLC in all of this is a very good idea.

Very well, the discounts are not very large, but I am happy that you are happy.
I prefer GOG to Steam even so I have one or two of the DLC on Steam and the transfer isnt worthwhile.
That being said Gladius is a good game and I have been buying into it over time. Steam keys can be found very inexpensively, GOG keys are a lot rarer, so yes you have a point.

Automatically Appended Next Post: I tried an experiment.
I input the code I used today to see if anything would happen. Earlier I had a thought that if I didn't unlock all the discounted items at once I might unlock them later, but dare not see if this is so before buying any game I did want. So I bought the games I definitely wanted and could afford.
Now I came back to see if I could add the not sures.
As expected I could not. When you put the key in you have one shot to add in all the DLC and extra discount games you want. I do not know what will happen if you close the tab window down before properly redeeming, I am not daft enough to test that. Please assume that you will not get any second chances, if you want this deal review this thread and all the offers and game reviews carefully, and the pricing detail in the spoiler section of the second content list post. Go in with your budget in mind knowing what you will see.
Enjoy your games.
I do not know if GOG is region locked, if it isn't and you can confirm it isn't. I might be able to arrange to buy a White Dwarf for non UK Dakka members without access to White Dwarf, with sufficient compensation and PM you the game code. You will forfeit the magazine, but are not missing much.
I will only do this if we can work out a way for you to compensate me, and if we are certain the game code will work in your region.
