Kind of a shot in the dark here, but has anybody heard any rumors about GW converting any of their currently metal minis to plastic soon?

I had an idea for my Skaven army that involved using Skryre Acolytes (which are currently metal), but $18 for one of them when I'm going to need 5 or 10 at least? No way.

AoS has armies in 4 states

1) Skaven, Lizardmen are in the "we are diverse but have a lot of old models that need updating"

2) New and small - Fyreslayers, Flesheaters, Ossiarchs, Daughters of Khaine etc...

3) Big and well supported - Stormcast, ?Nighthaunt

4) We don't know what we are doing - Cities of Sigmar and I'd even put orks in here too.
Note GW might know what they are doing but its hard to tell - eg Cities of Sigmar has almost the entire Dark Elf army present which could easily just be made into its own full standing force with a few leader models. There's also a good chunk of remaining dwarves and humans but so far we only know the human side is getting an update. It's hard to work out what GW is going to do with stuff in there.

So yeah there's a lot of forces that need updates. Be it to replace older models or to add additional forces ot diversify the army.

Yeah, agree with Overread on this one... it is a bit confusing as to why so many factions are all bundled into Cities of Sigmar when they could be broken back out into their own.

Will be interesting to see which old metal model sets get the plastic refresh in 2023!

Lizardmen have some pending hope- there are a couple lizardy silhouettes in the 'what's in store' article

Skaven were under-cooked last June in terms of models, so don't hold out for much hope there.

Beasts are getting the perfunctory treatment in the near future. (a very samey-looking beast lord and that's all)

Spring has a pack of battletomes and a few hints.

What faction in cos has line big enough to be own? Dwarves? 2 heroes, 2 troop box for 4 units, gyrocopter. Wee.

Do we need more mini factions...

The Dark Elf army is almost entirely all there. The only things missing are

1) Named heroes/leaders eg Morathi
2) Reaper Bolt Thrower (which is hardly a problem these days as most armies don't have any artillery)
3) The Witch Aelf set and the Cauldron set

Basically a handful of units are missing, meanwhile you've got the bulk of infantry, big monsters and enough leaders to make a functional force with. Throw in one or two named hero kits and you've got a full army right there. Heck GW even "soft" brought the Dark elves back by having Morathi invade a city and within that expansion book you can take the Dark Elf army as it merged the old Dark Elf part of Cities with Daughters of Khaine.
Indeed I did wonder if it was GW soft testing if they could do that long term and just put Dark Elves back on the table once again.

Personally I dislike it as I think Daughters of Khaine have enough lore, attention and model range to stand on their own as their own thing these days (though I'd welcome more models for the army). But still GW could do that; or they could just create an Elf force within Cities. Use the two or three other elf models from High Elves and Wood Elves that remain (its about one kit each or thereabouts) and throw them in with the Dark Elf block as specialist; add a named hero or two and you're done.

I'm honestly surprised they've not done it already to be honest and it links back to GW really not seeming to know what to do with Cities of Sigmar. Even their first new models for it are aimed at the purely human side which suggests that either Cities is going to lose its game side representation of its united races element; or they are going to release different cities for different niche forces. Which will be curious when Dwarves get their own "cities of sigmar" instead of returning to their holts as their own thing.

All the CoS subfactions had a big enough line.

Remember, they were artificially culled prior to each CoS battletome, even excellent and recent kits (the wood elf ones in particular were a loss, some of the best elf models GW ever did, and they were almost new)

CoS units aren't 'missing,' they were deliberately removed, many well before the normal 'lifespan' of GW kits. It was almost as bad as the tomb king treatment. Had it happend to lizards and skaven rather than the weird Frankenstein monster catch-all faction, there would've been even more complaints about it.

The one good thing is that many metal minis were converted to resin... or maybe that's a bad thing? Depends on which material you prefer I guess.

As it is, we know Dawnbringer Crusades are coming, which may either worsen or help soothe the situation around the hodge-podge Cities of Sigmar.

We know Seraphon are very likely to be getting an update that's more than a single model, and many believe we haven't seen everything that the Gloomspite Gitz are getting just yet.

The fact of the matter is that some factions are in great shape, like Lumineth, while others are languishing in a half-done state. This isn't too unusual, since we see it all the time through GW's products, and it's frustrating because all we can do is wait for new plastics.

I'm still waiting on new Grave Guard for Soulblight Gravelords. They got a huge update, but many of their models are still horridly ancient, like the Corpse Cart, Black Knights, and aforementioned Grave Guard. They don't really match the new aesthetic in my opinion, and so I don't get them.

Limiting myself to only working with newer models means that A. at least my army will look cohesive with new plastic but B. have half the number of options as other people that are more willing to go with old kits.
