Why do people hold rifles like a rifle? Because it’s easier to aim. So why don’t they hold missile launchers like that? Because of weight and bulk. Well if you’re a super strong warrior wearing armor that further amplified your strength, the weight and bulk become less of an issue. So yeah, I don’t really have a problem with the T shirt cannons.

On the other hand, if we're trying to explain things with a Marine's capabilities, I don't think there's a difference in accuracy between pretending to aim down the barrel while using a targeter and HUD to shoot the weapon and holding the missile launcher between one's butt cheeks while using a targeter and HUD to shoot the weapon.

overall the weapon itself and how the Marines hold and aims them is fine, no problem here

what bothers me and kills it (haha) is that the pod uses a bolter belt to feed from the back

was the designer just lazy, or simple forgot to change them when a added missiles to the standard heavy weapon template

it just looks stupid
i mean it already looks bad with the belt being thinner than the bolter ammunition on the same model
but being thinner and shorter than the rockets look out of place

and at the same time having a rocket pod with such a high firing rate that a belt feeding is needed, why not just using a bolter with exploding bolt rounds

But the multi part lieutenant seems like a nice kit.

Well seeing they fill 32mm round you will need 32mm square. 25mm square and legs well over.

Of course no quarantee tow has old base sizes and odds are no.

People forget the advantages of square bases. 25mm squares give you 35mm of posing space, and I notice the seraphon are still posed in a dynamic, angle friendly way to fit facing correctly on a square.

You have about 4mm of your feet overhanging your squares. Add to that tails and...

Fb had issues ranking up and models been going bigger and wider poses since then.

If it was hard before and models been going harder can't be any easier. 25mm squares were getting small before with smaller models...

Which is why bases likely go bigger in tow. 20/25mm squares aren't something gw can't change.

I just poked around looking into the history of cold ones. They’ve had some ups and downs.

The original metals, shared by skink riders and cold one knights, were nasty looking customers. Limited by the tech/materials of the day, but nice dinos
The DE “upgraded” to the derpasaurus version, which looked literally fat and stupid. To be fair, they did have the Stupid trait. I don’t think anyone liked this sculpt. Not sure if Lizardmen ever got to ride this version.
The Saurus Knights Cold Ones still look they are taking some penalty in the brains department, but at least look like they know how to bite you. Could be better
Drakespawn Knights are everything you’d want out of ferocious war lizard. Those things look mean and well done. Lovely Cold Ones.

I disliked the metal cold ones (all of them). The sluggish plastic ones I liked - there were metal Saurus riders for them some time after their release for DE. The current plastics for Lizardmen are horrible IMO, while the DE ones are good.

I think the new ones are fine, but the faces of their riders are not.

IIRC the latest DE cold ones came before the lizardmen versions? That's what was most shocking. When the saurus cav was released it was like Charlie Gordon losing everything he had gained. I can't imagine seraphon won't get updated cold ones this time around, with so much else getting redone. I refuse to believe it.

Nah, the lizardmen ones were before the DE ones. They came with the Lustria sourcebook in 2005, the Dark Elves ones were with the 7th Ed army book in 2008, which is actually a lot less time between them than I thought and than the models look like there are. The lizardmen ones were bad in 2005, let alone now.

I hope if they redo Lizzy Cold Ones they're more like the current Dark Elf ones, as those as superior to the cartoonish ones the Lizzies currently have. That said, I did like the chunky ones the Lizardmen had before that. For whatever reason, GW chose to make their Cold Ones look like the baby Zillas from the 90's American Godzilla movie.

 kodos wrote:

I'm struggling to work out the function of the belt. Does it reload the smaller launcher? If so, why does the smaller launcher clearly have 6 warheads sticking out, one from each tube? Does the launcher fire off a volley of six, and then reloads all six tubes from the belt, or does it reload each tube as it is fired, pushing the next missile forward so that it protrudes from the front... but at such a rate that all 6 always appear to be loaded?

Why couldn't it just be a power cable...

I'm personally hoping they stop calling them 'Cold Ones' and come up with any other sort of name for them.

Dunno. Just seemed lazy to call them 'Cold Ones' instead of something that's kind of dinosaur-ish in name...

Given GW's naming conventions of late, be careful what you wish for.

Spoiler:

These are much better; if I ever get some the belt feed will definitely end up in the bits box. I still don’t understand the point of the 6-barrel launcher, why not just have a bolter/bolt rifle/heavy bolter? Then the belt feed would make sense.

maybe the thought if it like a Gatling?
the tube rotates, fire the bottom rocket and reloads the top one from the belt and for burst fire you can fire all 6 at ones?

and wouldn't it be easier to reload them from the front after fire all 6, as the rockets are so small and you could move much easier in terrain?

Mixed bag - some stuff worth picking up, but I’m really beginning to think GW are running on fumes, creatively speaking.

The lizardmen are the best of the releases but are effectively just updated sculpts of versions that already existed in and out of the warhammer range.

The ‘GI Joe with real firing spring loaded missiles’, the ‘spray a dreadnought in glue and roll it in a bits box’ and the ‘new! Now you can customise (TM) your monopose plastic Lieutenant after flogging you 11 different variants’, have pushed the primaris range so far into the realms of parody and lazy design it’s just not worth taking the mick anymore.

The Arbites look good, but I can’t help noting a lot of similarities to several 3rd party vendor designs, which is something I’ve seen creeping into GW releases of late. Turnabout is fair play and all that but they are in serious danger of losing their identity imo.

I'd say it's the reverse of the kit itself - we have the hull plate, but none of the rest of the tank.

Maybe they’ll make a separate unit entry for Trueborn again? At the moment, the “favoured brats” unit is just a moar eliter line unit – having a bunch of them bring their favourite toys from their chosen hobbies makes more sense than that, to me anyway.

I wonder if those Marines will only be able to fire as many big missiles as they’ve got tubes, and the six barrel thing is their normal gun.

I remember an old rumor how the Ultramarines was supposedly making an unholy alliance with the Tau (rumor about 8th edition?).
Well, the desolators have absurd multiple missile boxes that they carry so the models look really derpy and awkward -exactly like the Tau!
Mark my words, marines will utilise loads of drones in 10th edition.

  • [*] A pair of wrack blades *
    [*] A razorflail *
    [*] A venom blade *
    [*] etc. up to X

  • * no more than one per unit
