Haven't been here in forever and I'm slowly creeping back into the hobby. Since the IVth Legion is my personal favourite, figured I would brainstorm some ideas if they ever got a supplement to themselves

  • Let them take Havocs as troops. They made Havocs a thing, so I feel they should take them as troops and free up the Heavy Support choices.

  • ARTILIJERIA! Memes aside, artillery is their bread & butter. I would like it if they were able to take Basilisks (got into the game during 5E, so I have no nostalgia of their supposed cheese back in 3E). Maybe Manticores, but I don't want to swipe too much from the Guard.

  • Obliterators. I love them. You love them. Everyone loves them. This point is to question whether they would be best if left in the Heavy Support or move them into the Elites slot?

  • Castellan Rhinos. Reading up on them, they sound cool. Let them have an extra point to toughness compared to a normal Rhino. With their unique ability of being able to link together, I feel there could be a way to work a specialty disembarking. Like you can disembark from the Rhino you are in, but also the Rhino connected directly to the one you are in. If there is another Rhino connected to that one, you cannot disembark from that Rhino that turn, but you can transfer your troops into it. Of course, let the Castellan be more expensive than the usual Rhino as to not make them obsolete; I'm thinking 5-10 points more expensive.

  • Tyrant Siege Terminators, because who doesn't want tough as hell mobile missile platforms?

  • Breacher Siege Squad, for all your shielded sieging needs. Put them in the Elites slot.

  • Now, for HQs
  • Perturabo. Obvious choice is obvious. No idea how to build him (is he a Daemon Prince or a jacked-up Obliterator?), so he's just getting a name drop from me.

  • Barban Falk. Need to re-read Storm of Iron to get an idea on how to build him.

  • Honsou. The Daemonculaba Daddy himself. Want to have his necrodermis arm play into his gameplay in some way. Whether it hits like a truck in melee or let him regain a wound a turn (NOT SO MUCH FUN NOW, IS IT NECRONS?!). Also, maybe let that Bitter Enmity stratagem also work on Ultramarines if used on him. Again, I seriously need to re-read Storm of Iron or the other Iron Warriors books.

  • Warsmiths. Reword the Chaos Lord and give them access to the hydraulic arm on their old model as a weapon akin to the Warpsmith's mechatendrils, trading in the tendrils bonus attacks with a higher strength attack (give them the clamps!)

  • Would love to hear peoples thoughts and inputs on this one.

Alright I like the general idea but I do not think making Havocs troops is a good idea. Rather Iron Warriors should have a force organization that favors Havocs, or support characters who can support them better than just slapping a Chaos Lord next to them.

So if we do grant the Iron Warriors a supplement frankly it should focus on their usage of heavy weapons, large siege oriented Daemon engines and tanks. I figure that their Cultists are already pretty well covered by Traitor Guardsmen so that slots in pretty well.

Unique Terminator weapon options/unit type makes sense.

Frankly a daemon engine variant of their Heresy era robots could be another way to set them up for a unique feel, an evil industrialized machine, the Isengard to the Black Legion's Mordor. Like how BTs are not allowed to take Liberians, we could ban Iron Warriors from using Possessed. They may well be defined but what they can't bring as much as they are but what they can bring.

I imagine an Obliterator character could be in order as an elite slot choice, particularly if he synergies with normal Obliterators.

The Warsmith could be an interesting guy if you make him themed around buffing heavy weapons as opposed to melee, Iron Warriors could be made almost to a shooting oriented CSM.

How about instead of making Havocs troops, let Legionaires take more heavy weapons. Maybe they can forgo taking a special weapon for an extra heavy weapon?

I agree another daemon engine would be great and I would love another daemon engine, but I just didn't think of a new one at the time of posting. Maybe something to go into the Fast Attack group? Have a fast unit for anti-tank/monster needs. In my current caffeine induced state, I can see a something like a Greater Brass Scorpion with a heavy melta tail and drills in place for claws albeit being not as durable as said GBS.

I did consider dropping Possessed from their roster, but didn't write it down. Would miss them, but completely understand their omission from an IW supplement. They might have to lose out on Warp Talons too.

Browsing FW, I can see them using Aquitors as an artillery tank. And make it a house rule where one of them has to be painted up like the Bosnian flag.

For an Obliterator character and synergy, how about letting it not proc the -1 for Unrelenting Firepower in Engagement Range? I know they're all about aura buffs nowadays, but that might be a bit overpowered if made an aura so it might be more balanced to only let it work on the unit it is attached to.

Moving havocs to troops is probably too much. Why would I ever take a legionary squad when I can just take chaincannon havocs for 55 points more? I'd rather see the force organization adjusted than deal with endless heavy weapon spam. Give the IW more heavy support slots in return maybe remove an equal number of fast attack slots plus one.

Right now given how bad artillery is you can probably get away with the basilisks. Though you're definitely plugging a big hole in the CSM lineup so they either have to be a premium or very limited.

I still think adjusting the force org is better than moving a unit designation.

For the Rhino, going from T7 to T8 has to be worth more than 5-10 points. T8 is a big jump where melta wounds 50% and small arms become worthless.

Ideally if Iron Warriors are a supplement they shouldn't stray too far from CSM. I figure if restrict the more daemonic aspect they could become a template for the less insane Chaos aligned forces.

    Daemon engines stay.
    Chosen Stay,
    Psykers stay.

I believe possessed should go, as would the warp talons, since they're pretty much possessed Raptors.
Perhaps include fluff about how Masters of Possession are present they are far less important in the Iron Warriors compared to Warpsmiths.
A buffed up Warpsmith/Warsmith combo could be a cool character too introduce either as a named character or here's your special character.
I know that in the Helbrecht novella he runs into an Iron Warriors Warsmith in Terminator Plate. I'd love to see a Cataphractii Terminator Special character for the Iron Warriors with some sort of aura for improving assaults against units in cover/improving the usage of heavy weapons and basic bolters though that is more around making small arms useful (ie adding ways to interact with enemy models beyond just killing them, like suppressing them.)
