When attaching images to posts via mobile, portrait images (taller than they are wide) always give a thumbnail in landscape (wider than they are tall). If you click thru the thumbnail the full size image will have the correct orientation still. Easy examples in my current P&M thread;

Under the couch

Are you using an iPhone? There's been an issue for years where forum software doesn't read the orientation code that iPhones embed into the pic. The quickfix before uploading is to open any sideways pics in an image editor, make some tiny change (doesn't have to be anything major, just something to trigger the need to resave it) and then save it. The pic will now read as the correct orientation.
