I rewatched one of my favourite YouTuber's new songs a while back, then looked through his channel, but found all his old funny as frig video game videos were gone. I whined about it on the music video but he replied that he'd moved them to a different channel goblinman5000 (which I'm sure is a reference to Powerman 5000). So been watching those videos. Like this one right now, I think he's so damned funny and completely undersubbed, but that's just my opinion, man.

The Angaran Chronicles: Hamar Noir. After coming back from a dangerous mission which left his friend and partner, the werewolf: Emilia in a coma. Anargrin is sent on another mission: to hunt down a rogue vampire. A rogue vampire with no consistent modus operandi and who is exceedingly good at hiding its tracks. Measures which drives Anargrin to wonder; does the ends, justify the means?
Last night, I re-watched Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Complete as I've been meaning to watch it due to realising how influential the original was on me as a writer (mostly for writing action scenes), although it was getting too late and I stopped to go to sleep.
Complete is 100x better than the original, much easier to understand what the hell is going on. I watched it with my mum last time and even she could follow it.

Finished watching FF7: Advent Children, Complete today, and it really is a ton pf fun as a movie. I'm happy that Reno and Rude play such a big part in the movie, that was the best decision they made making it. The faces of the characters do have a little bit of an uncanny valley vibe when they talk sometimes.

Not watching right now, but Fredrik Knudsen finally released a new video. He's like the Internet Historian but covers more niche subjects (seriously, this is super niche) and takes it far more seriously).

Feral Historian is good, but sometimes leans a bit too (small c) conservative and Libertarian for his own good; but he still has interesting takes on things.
Plus, as a fellow mountain living person, his videos in the wild are fun.

Yeeeaah, I don't always agree with his takes too.
Last night, I watched the latest episode of Dan Da Dan and man, it had to be one the best so far. The level of imagination on display boggles my brain. What a great show.

Last night, due to a convoluted series of events, I watched the original Naked Gun trilogy. I wanted to watch Tropic Thunder due to seeing a video about it on YT, but I had to buy it. The I remembered I have a DVD of Airplane! But it wasn't compatible with my Blu-ray player for some reason (I bought it from a dump shop so it could've been scratched to hell high and back, but I checked the disc and it seemed fine, so okay) so I found Naked Gun on Netflix and decided it was the next best thing. Enjoyed all three, especially the meme'd gunfight at the end of the 2nd one. It was weird seeing OJ Simpson in it knowing what he'd done...I mean ALLEGEDLY done years later. He was actually a pretty good actor and seeing him get so beaten up was all the more funny in hindsight, lol.

JAWS is back in the theaters for its 50th anniversary.
Excellent movie.
So, took me 50 years, but.... i can now say that I've finally seen Jaws beginning to end in one sitting.
Excellent movie, well worth the tkt price.
(For the record, I HAVE seen Jaws before. Just as clips, segments, etc over the years on TV, Cable, VHS as a teen, YT...) just not all at once until this evening. )
A few youtube channels run by former Special Forces guys (Anti-Hero Podcast, Valhalla VFT amongst others) have been going to town on Tim Kennedy and John Mcphee (both former Special Forces guys) and their outlandish claims made in books and podcast shows.
Been very interesting watching that community of high level warfighters finally speak out and push back on the grifters. Some of the claims were so obviously bullcrap that its almost cathartic to see them get called on it.
My oldest brother had some dealings with a few folks mentioned in some of the stories of the early days of GWOT, so it hit pretty close to home.

Finally finished Cobra Kai. Outside of a single dream sequence that I hated this might be one of the best start to finish series I've ever watched. Like any reasonably long show it's got a few lulls in the quality but overall it was pretty fantastic and they nailed the landing.

Family is away for a bit so running through the Extraction films again. Brutal, but amazing thrill rides. Just the right amount of down time to get a bit of character building done before jumping straight back into the murderising.

For a series that started out as a bit of (good!) Internet silliness, it far surpassed itself.
We get a lot of the original cast returning, but none of it feels like ‘member berries, or nostalgia for the sake of nostalgia.
I like Johnny being Mr Peaked In High School, without being beyond redemption. This works quite well because we know he came from a crappy background and bad influences in his formative years. To see him catch a break and build back his life is just enjoyable watching, all the more so because it’s not a smooth, straight road for him.

Was thinking to make a this a thread unto itself, but figured I’d try it here.
Is YouTube an underrated platform?
Sure, any big shows you need to pay for, or be quick off the mark before their piracy stuff slaps a channel down.
But outside of that? It’s a home for specific interests. All sorts of nonsense of course, but also some easily found, competent documentaries. And if Might Algorithmo is behaving it’s ineffable self, it’s like MTV before MTV forgot the M stood for Music and not Moron, as you can just stick on a bunch of music videos.
Could be the old classics, could be spelunking in a specific peculiar obscure sub-genre. Could be entirely pop pap. Doesn’t matter. It’s on there.
I use it so much, I’ve got the Premium to cut out the ads.
Of all the sort of social media stuff? I feel likes it suffered the least from engakification. At least it’s entirely free to watch if you can cope with the ads?
Fed up of Scalpers? But still want your Exclusives? Why not join us?
@Mad Doc, I love YouTube, totally addicted, and I too have begun a Premium Membership, mostly at the insistence of my father, and man, having no ads makes it much, much better. Also, the other features are good, too. But, of course, the 2nd month after I make the membership, YouTube puts up the price by a whole $10.00, mwah mwah.
Despite this, I would say YouTube isn't what it used to be. Because so many creators are using it as a source of income rather than a hobby, and advertising being the biggest monetary gains for creators really does encourage self censorship for fear of demonitisation, getting your video hidden, etc. This does encourage a lot of sanitisation that didn't happen ten-fifteen years ago. Things like Patreon, or even YouTube's own member system does alleviate that, but Patreon has been known to kick people off who have pretty tepid takes. It's one of the reasons I love FlashGitz and their secondary channel, TomandDom. They're old school guys who seem to be thriving despite being edgy as feth, thanks to their Patrons. I've thought about backing them on Patreon, actually. I hope GW won't go after them for their Space King series as while it isn't "40k" it really kinda is, lol.
Going to your question, is YouTube underrated? Yes and no. It's still great especially if one is unfamiliar about how much freedom the site used to have. It really was a place that was able to provide a (to use that Libertarian line) Market Place of Ideas. I remember back when it was the Atheists vs Christian Apologists and that was a fun time. It still happens, but it isn't as animated. Or at least I think so, I've kinda moved on from watching that content anymore. It's all the same arguments over and over on both sides.
But despite this, I still think it's a great site.

I’m a dirty science trusting Leftie, and I find with a little tactical pruning using the “do not recommend channel” option has cultivated some solid sources.
I follow a lot of debunkers, from the strongly scientific such as Professor Dave, to the knowingly silly but still making accurate points and arguments, like Sir Sic.
I’m not personally into the DeBaTe Me BrO stuff, so I’ve trained the algorithm accordingly. But they are still there. Some are completely unhinged. Some are mind numbingly long (I don’t want to watch a three video of people talking over one another for instance). And yeah a bunch are just really poorly moderated.
I did however greatly enjoy Professor Dave’s turns with Lord Jamar (utter moron), Mr Kent Hovind (moron lying for Jesus) James Tour (lying for Jesus) and Suboor Ahmed (moron lying for Allah). Those were pretty spicy, as Professor Dave doesn’t mince words. But crucially all three well reasonably well moderated.
But there are debunkers I find unbearably smug with it, and so I avoid their channels where possible.
So there is still a lot of decent debate material on there. I don’t know where your taste lie, but I do actively recommend Professor Dave. Even if you don’t agree with him? His stuff is compelling, from exposing the Discovery Institute to humiliating some anti-vaccine grifters most recently, a big part of his approach is to first demonstrate his opponent might refer to the odd scientific paper, but either hasn’t actually read them. Or is wilfully misrepresenting and misinterpreting.
Others I’d recommend, though they do reaction commentary? Viced Rhino and Paulogia. Both are former Christians, addressing Christian Apologetics. Both offer quite sober takes on the matter, and have solid knowledge of the Bible, and so make very interesting points.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, YouTube seems to be demonetising AI Slop channels. So that’s something.

Thanks for the recommendations, I might check them out. I'm most definitely on the side of the non-religious and would describe my politics as centre-left. I like to tip my fedora, lol. Nah, I do have a fedora, but I never wear it anymore after it was ruined by Redditors. I've heard the debunking of the Watchmaker argument so often that it seems almost impossible to do it in a refreshing way.
Back on topic, I watched this a while ago, and I really couldn't agree more...

I watched the first three Scary Movie...movies last night. 1 was okay, quite funny here and there. Two was just bad and even boring, to be honest. I didn't like it even as a teenager years back. But three, three was the best in my opinion. Made me laugh a lot, I think it helped a lot that it was directed by the same dude who did Airplane! and the Naked Gun trilogy. This scene that I'm watching right now is one of my favourites, made me laugh out loud. I showed it to my dad and he loved it too.

I've finally gotten around to watching Succession. Or trying to....
I've generally heard nothing but good things & praise for this series. But after slogging through season 1? I'm done. I don't like any of the characters & I simply don't care what they're doing.

Haven’t touched the series since about 2 episodes into season 3, so I’ve only been watching clips on youtube, but Sharlto Copley as Leo Bonhart in Witcher Season 4 is must-see TV. Dude dominates every scene he is in as an absolutely ruthless bounty hunter and I can’t get enough.
