Getting back into Lizardmen, now Seraphon, after more than a decade. Doing pretty much the same concept and plans as I did back then, which is going nearly, if not completely, Saurusless and only running Skinks. Painting everything up based on real “lizards” with different units having different schemes. Been holding off starting a blog here for them until I started getting stuff painted, and as I got the first unit of Skinks done this morning here we go! Anyone hazard a guess on what common lizard inspired these chaps?

Skinks! The best lizard. I don't have any guesses as to the lizard they're meant to be alas.

I have to learn more about lizards, I suppose!

First half of my Hunters are painted up. Basing this unit on Panther Chameleons because those things have crazy color. Hard to do them true Justice at this scale, but I think they came out pretty good.

Such fun colors! I think that the second one from the left is my favorite, but they're all good.

Second half of my Hunters of Huanchi unit painted up. Don’t think I did as good a job mimicking the patterns and colors of my references this time around, but they still look alright. Definitely a unit that won’t get overlooked on the tabletop.

Also reposting my first unit of Skirmishers again, as I liked the inclusion of the references in the Hunters’ photos so I’ve gone back and added that into theirs.

First half of the second unit of Skink Skirmishers, painted as actual skinks this time! Baby five lined skinks to be exact. Their coloring becomes less distinct/precise as they age, thus specifically the baby ones. Not a hard paint job, but those lines are the right kind of tedious to make me hate doing it and slow me down.

great looking unit of chameleons, awesome range of schemes and really like the look of the unit all together (alot of the schemes would look great for a whole army)

Gotta say these are my favorite on the skink schemes so far though, the tedium definitely paid off on the stripes, great looking miniatures

Keep up the awesome work

Wow that most recent unit of skinks is just absolutely beautiful. I agree, the stripes may be tedious but they really came out great!

Thanks for all the kind words so far! Really appreciate the love.

Got the second half of my Five Lined Skink Skirmishers done, finishing the unit. Added a light coat of Skeleton Horde to the lines to dull them down a little from the first batch and get them more earthy, as I thought they were too bright yellowish.

With three ten man units done, it’s time for the first couple characters up next. Will get the Hunters’ bird friends as well for a full batch of paint handles at once.

Finished my first two characters plus the trio of screamy bois.

My two Star Priests, the Twin Sons of Tepok, are based on the Mwanza Flat-Headed Rock Agama, aka Purple-Headed Agama, aka Spider-Man Agama. The concept for them dates clear back to the first time I was going to build a Lizardman army and ended up with duplicate sculpts for my Skink Priests. I’m actually known more locally for conversions than painting, and these are finally showing that. One was modded to give them the tablet to represent a Dispell Scroll, while the other got a Staff of Sorcerery. Mimicked that from the originals, and even gave the one a freshly plucked heart the first models had. Painting their feathers up in contrasts to their scales made them pretty aggressively rainbow, I love it.

For the Terrawings I googled most annoying bird, which gave me the Asian Koel. All black, and with a call I didn’t find that annoying listening to a recording of it, was rejected. Alright, Google the loudest bird. The White Bellbird, all white, also rejected. Alright, when I think of birds with a rep for being annoying the Magpie springs to mind. They’re just black and white, right? Not all of them it turns out! The Black-Billed Magpie has some extra coloration in there, you win. If I thought it was hard trying to match lizard patterns onto Skinks, it’s even worse with birds onto pterodactyls. I think I got a pretty good approximation of their patterns though. Overall I like them, but looking at my photos now I may want to go back and darken their blues up a little bit…

This completes one full tray in one of my cases. Time to start doing some basing on these this weekend. Those can’t stay plain black forever.

Looking great Aduro! Can't wait to see an army group shot of all of these guys together, all the colours of the skink'bow.
(also would love to see what you'd end up doing with the troglodon kit, I'm sure it would be awesome)

A bit of procrastination and some time sidetracked with some MonPoc models, but I’m back to working on the Skinks again before the tournament here tomorrow.

Painted up some various resin plants in three shades of green as well as a few branches. I didn’t want to have to try and put down texture paint around/under them all, so I experimented with slathering a base in Stirland Mud, then putting a drop of glue on the plants and pressing them into it while it was still wet. Left little mounds around the base of some, but overall seemed to work out well.

After a good day to make sure that layer of texture was good and dry, did some splotchy messy dry brushing of three different shades of brown on patches of the texture (and covering some of the plant bases that turned white from the glue), and promptly covered all the texture in Agrath Earth. Gives it all a good non-uniform mottled dirt appearance.

Anoles and Chameleons turned out great. The Five-Lines could use a couple more medium plants. They don’t have Less than the others, but happened to end up with smaller ones, which makes them appear less overgrown and they could benefit from a bit more greenery. Then everyone needs to get some scattered dead leaves, maybe a few skulls, and their bases will be done.

Lastly, got some Javelins to repair, a few things I’ve seen that need touched up, and finally hit them all with a satin varnish for a little bit of scaly shine and wet ground. Then back to painting up more Skinks!

These all look really lovely! I really like the paint scheme for the pterodactyls best. Thank you for sharing.

Leaf litter on bases, darkened the blue on the birds, and colored the tips of the priests’ feathers. Just need to still fix the two broken javelins in the Skirmishers and I can seal this big batch to get their completed damp shine, and finally get started on the next.

Been dragging my feet on painting last couple weeks. Finally buckled down and got the first five from my next unit of Skinks done, sans shields which I’m painting separate this time. This is going to be my unit of “Red Crested Skinks”, so I looked up red lizards and the Peninsular Rock Agama looks my best go, specifically the males during mating season. Originally I was going to make them all red, but I think I’m going to go ahead and mix in some orange and a few yellows as well. Still give them all red crests though.
