Hey folks, I'm currently on a cyberpunk RPG fix and this game popped back into my mind. My only experience with Modiphius' systems was a brief stint trying to run Star Trek Adventures pre-pandemic (very brief stint so that I basically only remember it involved 2d20 and lifepath choices... nothing more!) and was curious as if anyone has tried the earlier Infinity branded version. If you have, what were your thoughts on the general game mechanics and character creation? How "faithful" was it to the tabletop game both in terms of lore as well as being able to play your favorite tabletop unit as a character whether starting or as an ultimate end goal with advancement?

None of my group are particularly into Infinity so I haven't played it, but I've read the rulebook and been through character creation a bunch of times, it seems like a lot of fun and a very versatile system. It's also written by the same guy who did STA

I went in on the Kickstarter, mostly for all the background material

The lifepath and 2d20 (and you can get more d20s in there) are there. I didn't dig too deeply into the mechanics, but if you like transhumanist RPGs like Eclipse Phase with a more anime art style you'll probably like it.

I'm superficially familiar with 1e Eclipse Phase as I looked into it for a bit but it didn't jive with me personally. I wasn't interested enough in the 2nd edition of it to follow up on that either personally. I'd love to sit in on a game in discord and see how Infinity RPG works as it's definitely not by any means an easy game to get into just like the tabletop game.

Ah, I knew they used the same core mechanics/base system but didn't realize it was the same author. I'm intrigued by it (just like the tabletop game) but I'm a bit intimidated by the complexity to be honest. It's not that I'm scared of complex games (I grew up with them in the hobby as a genXer) but rather the combo of inherent mechanical complexity and trademark Infinity technogibberish.

I haven't had a chance to sit down and play it, but I suspect like the wargame its bark is worse than its bite, once you get over the basic hurdle of what the technogibberish means they're quite good at making a really wide range of things interact in a consistent and predictable manner.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Possibly. I wasn't unfortunately able to find a game to even quietly spectate so as to get a better feel for the RPG. :(
