New Beginnings
We are very excited to announce that Victrix is starting a new Medieval range, covering the period from the 12th to 13th century. We intend to cover the armies of the Crusades, both Western and Islamic, followed by Feudal Europe including Spain and the wars of the Reconquista.

Throughout this blog post we will show you some of the first renders of this new range, including renders of a Christian Knight with various helmet and weapon options, and a selection of Islamic foot soldiers. This will also include a very brief overview of the Medieval world at this time, We hope you enjoy!

The News and Rumors section is all about surprises. I'd certainly hate it if we got 100 posts saying "I know something you don't know..." - malfred

I literally checked their website last night to see if they had exactly this. I'd like to think that somehow that action ushered this in, even though that is entirely impossible.

I'm on a podcast about (video) game design:

And I also make tabletop wargaming videos!

Yeah I can't express how happy I am about this. Between this and the WGA Afghan Cavalry that is hopeful on the way, I will be able to finish my Cult army for Sludge.

Great news. Victrix has really been knocking them out of the park, so pretty excited to see what is coming.

I was looking forward to this one. Now, I have some miniatures for Fyrd and Militia type units without all the chain mail.

Are they any bigger than the Fireforge knights?

Also, remember when Victrix claimed Wargames Atlantic was stealing their ideas? And also remember when WA released some knights and then Vixtrix released some knights?

Not that this absolves Victrix of any past or present pettiness, but they did show off renders of their knights roughly a year ago.

What's the actual full story with that situation anyways? I keep incidentally running into mentions of it - did Victrix actually claim stolen assets, or did they just get miffed that they got beat to the punch on a certain historical period/kit?

Who cares? Both companies make good, plastic kits for a lot of great periods.

I have used both in my Dark Ages and Ancient collection and am very happy with both companies product.

I agree. I don't particularly care about some drama between competitors. I care about having more good-looking toys to play with!

Absolutely agree. If you take so long to get a product to market that that the competition beats you there, then you better have a better product. I'm all for miniature agnostic games now so I don't want to wait years on promises.

Victrix is now also adding foot knights.

And I ahve to say, I really like them. But the eternal problem with foot knights for me is that I only need a few and there will probably be a lot in this box. But then again, there always is the option to just buy a sprue.

I really wish sculptors would study actual chainmail. I several places on these renders I see chainmail going the wrong way. That is a big no for me.

It is pretty bad chainmail tbh

That was my first though too. I recall some earlier set to have particularly poor chainmail (Republican Romans perhaps?), which actively put me off them - just rows of holes. It had improved a bit over time with Dark Age sets looking better (good, given how prominent the material is there), but I think this might be step back compared to the Normans, which did feature the characteristic S-shaped pattern.

That said, it will look fine when painted on the table I'm sure, but it's a pity, and seems unnecessary in this day and age.

I do prefer the larger helmets on these than the Wargames Atlantic versions, some of which seem very narrow compared to the sizes of bare heads. Which is annoying, as I was rather hoping one set or the other would be clearly superior... Well, let's see what the finished product looks like.

(Also: model on a tiny rock, ugh. I don't want 1/8th of my models to be standing on the same tiny rock.)

The cav are excellent and work well for Warhamster Brets. Indeed could tempt me if they have a big enough range to do a Bret army.

It bothered me at first too. A lot. lol

But honestly it looks good once it's painted. Plus, at tabletop distances it is hard to tell any difference.

I think it is done to offset molding issues. Plus, good, accurate, chainmaille at 28mm is a bitch digitally speaking. The only way to make it work and not look completely CG is to place each link individually. Which I'm sure you can guess is an huge time investment.

Must resist more historical minis!

Would be curious about the size comparison to Fireforge and GW. From what I remember they would close-ish but I wonder if that is still the same with their newer stuff (or if they've been AoSigmared)

Medieval Islamic Infantry & Archers - Now Shipping!

48 x Islamic Infantry/Archer figures.

These represent Islamic infantry of the Middle East and Spain from the 7th Century onwards into the Crusader era of the 12th and 13th centuries.

What you get are some very dynamic and varied poses. There are options for spearmen, swordsmen and archers, plus you get command figure parts such as standard bearer arms, trumpets and drums to create the loud cacophony that accompanied Islamic troops into battle.

There are 22 individual heads to choose from on each frame giving you 132 heads in total!
The archer figures can be made into spearmen and the spearmen figures can be made into archers, so there is a massive amount of variation can be achieved with this new set.

The Islamic Cavalry will be ready late December, so this will be an early Jan release.

Followed by Medieval Foot Knights, Foot Sergeants & more!

LBMS shield transfers & banners available.
